There must be something in the air with all these Kickstarters!
We had hoped to launch this late last year, but a few snags cropped up, and we are currently aiming for a January 30th launch, to run for one month to the end of February.
The primary goal is to publish the new Supreme Edition which has seen rules mechanics revised for what we feel is a faster playing game. That has also meant updating the game rules for over 100 miniatures, and we will have a set of new game cards for each Supreme and Minion available.
If we beat our funding goal (which we think is a reasonable target), then we can hopefully move towards a number of stretch goals which will feature new minis, and some additional tweaks to the new rule-book.
And if this campaign goes well, we have in mind some key things we would love to tackle in the future.
More information soon!
Edit: Title amended to be in line with Forum rules.

any ideas on a teaser for the pledges? This is hitting a a poor time of the year for me so I would like to see what is in the offerings to save up cash if they have a good value.

There will be the new Hero and Villain Starter sets. We will look to build up the Grimm as a playable Faction (think swarm of critters unduly influenced by 80's pop-culture, and their boss John Grimmsham), and further out, if it goes really well, new Powerhouses (think 'big guys') for the existing Factions. Plus some other surprises.
The pledges will represent a cheaper price than retail for the new stuff, and we think they will be fairly priced for the low model count skirmish niche.
-
There will be a character creator like supersystem or RPGs? I hope so :-*
And will be translate to Spanish?

Not in THIS book, but we have very specific plans if this project succeeds....
And will be translate to Spanish?
I am sorry, but that is unlikely. We are a small company, and I don't think there is sufficient demand for us to offer a cost-effective translation unfortunately.
However, we feel we have created a mechanically clear revision of the system, so hopefully it will still be a useful game for non-native English speakers.
-
Very exciting news.
-
I have most of the original line, but am missing a few. I'd be interested in being able to add figures to a pledge that includes the new book and starters...

Saw this on my blog feed and figure I would share to those interested....while I may not be into it for the rules the figures are nice and if the price is right. I am in!

nice...
-
The figure Styx posted is Anansi, from the new Villain Starter Set.
There will also be various other minis as stretch goals in this KS campaign, so it will be worth checking back regularly if you do pledge.
We plan to launch in a few days time - January 30th, at approximately noon EST (USA), or 5pm UK, 6pm central Europe.

It´s a pity. For a company that sell miniatures (not only rulebooks) having the rulebook in other langugesi t´s a good way to sell more miniatures. If rules and game is more accesible more people will buy the miniatures.
Spain and South America i think it´s not a bad market
Doing only pdf version, maybe doing a mini-kickstarter for traslation or rewarding a few fans for translate it wold be very cheap options for do it

Hi carlosyc, thanks for those thoughts. :)
It is something we could look into it; however even a pdf only version has its costs - the cost of the translation (the rules alone are roughly 22,000 words) and the book needs to be laid out again with the translated text (additional cost). We are a very small company, so any additional costs do matter. But on the translation front, even then things are not perfect - we have 100+ game cards, so realistically translating them would also be costly for example. Then there is the issue of rules differences arising from translated rules, which can and does happen. As none of us are for example native-Spanish speakers (or French, German etc.), then we have no way of checking the accuracy of a translation. A quick Google search suggests that the rules and fluff if translated professionally by a reputable service would work out to several thousand USD (at an average industry cost of of 13 cents per word; costs range from 10 to 20 cents for many providers).
http://webmarketingtoday.com/articles/Translation-Negotiating-Per-word-Rates/
http://www.betranslated.com/translation-rates.html
Add layout costs, and a pdf alone (i.e. no printed solution) would need a LOT of backers for people to make it succeed, or a high pledge cost.
Add a print run to that and the costs go up further. And that is without the cards; currently the rules on those come to around 21,000 words. Even stripping out what won't need translating, and the things that only need a single translation, we are probably looking at another 15,000 - 17,000 words (or another $2,000 USD or so; before layout costs are added or printing is done). So to professionally translate and layout the book and cards into one single other language could possibly cost in the region of $10,000, without printing, give or take. To make that viable would need a LOT of backers for a KS. 500 backers would be pledging at minimum $22 USD each for cards and book as pdf only, since there are Amazon payments fees involved. That would not cover any time to electronically send all those files out.
We don't ignore the problems that having the rules in only a single language creates, but equally it is important to recognize that we a re a very small company; we do this part-time amid having jobs that allow us to do this. Our fan-base is small. It could be grown with other language versions potentially, but the amount of extra fans needed per translation may be limited. Until this KS has run, we won't know.
However, here could very well be a quick start rules available, and if anyone wanted to work up their own translation of that, maybe that would help?
:)

More Kickstarter previews I saw on a News Feed but not here yet. Many of these are amazing, the favorites so far is the redone Nuke, Ace and the brawler with the kilt!
Oh and if the Kickstarter guys are reading this. Make sure to have an option to get minis without having to get the rules. While I am not really interested in the rules as much as the cool figs if they are at a great deal. Price them right and I am in!

To late to change our submission...but we did allow for minis only pledges! We actually have 3 minis-only pledges. :)

Thanks Scott. :)
The main driver is the rules update, but we had to include figures too of course, and among the minis will be a KS exclusive not seen here, but will have a regular version for sale at a later date.

My main driver is now hover cats, it seems.

The bad news is the timing, I am back from 3 weekends of vacation and that last weekend is a "guys gaming weekend" so the hotel, food and gas will get frowned on if I am not giving some back if I shell out big for a KS.....
As I said, at least one starter, if not both....or at least the APE pack and the Hero starter....
-
I'm glad it's up Leon, I'm in for the 150$ pledge and can't wait to see what you have in store for us!
-
Cheers guys. We are funded and on to our 7th Stretch Goal.
The main focus was getting the new book and cards which are a big undertaking (not just printing but layout etc.).
Now we can move forwards and grow the line too. We expect to have more stretch goals with add-ons etc. over the next 29 days, so worth keeping a close eye. :)
-
17th Stretch goal unlocked! Phew!

Like the hover cats?
Not for free, but they should be available to be bought through the pledge manager at the conclusion.
EDIT: However that is the $60 pledge; for $90 you get the same minis + book + free add-ons (Grimm Lee Chan, Supreme Grimm, Gravito Grimm, Hovercats, Toxic Grimmvenger all free so far)

Thanks to the success of the Kickstarter we have been able to commission the Soul Golem sculpt; enjoy!

I've taken the plunge and in for the supreme level.
I want those Grimm's and Hover cats. Will add on young blood and M.O.D to the pledge once the pledge manager comes out.
Really looking forward to this game.
LGW
-
And I'm in too, at Powerhouse level. :D
-
Well I've jumped to the collector pledge, I'm sush a sucker for limited models even though I have most of the available collection (up to the green emperor I believe) red baron and herals are models I've wanted for a long time :). Plus I'll get the monster set that I don't have right now.
-
I'm in. I know my $105 for Supreme level will have to go up a lot...so many add-ons and unlocks.
-
Thanks very much guys.
We are deep into Phase 3 of our stretch goals (Phase 1 was the Grimm; Phase 2 the Powerhouses; and Phase 3 has been about rounding out the major factions). I think a lot of people will be very happy if we reach the final stretch goal of Phase 3. And as for Phase 4, well... ;)

I guess you can't give us preview but can you tell us the target amount for the end of phase 3? :D

My ebay sales are sucking ass, so my pledge will be weak if any.

What would be a nice sweet spot s to do a goal about $105, both new 3 packs+1 faction pack+all bonus figs+add on options...maybe a $100.
While I am not that interested in the rules, a larger pledge to get more figs and a few of the unlocks would be nice.

Thanks for the idea Styx. However, please remember we are using KS to its intended goal - raising money for creation and production of new stuff. Getting older stuff at a discount is only an addition. And that new stuff was primarily about the new book and the new starters, so they need to remain the focus for us. :)

Just jumped in at Supreme Level. Not to be critical, but I like to make sure I'm getting my money's worth on these things. ;)

I am in for "You asked for it"
Looking at getting a few minions for the kids to play.
This game is going to rock.

Hi guys,
This is the final strech of this campaign, only 40 hours to go so if you were on the fence here, for 90$, you get the new rulebook with 19 miniatures and soon to be 20.
The forgotten models look so cool and are on the horizon, we can do it!

I'll say- A huge success- well done to everyone involved.

A pretty impressive total too. I went in for collector, and can only wonder at how much that package is going to weigh, being full of metal rather than plastic!

You're telling me! Especially since I already have most of the existing line. Once the new stuff arrives I might be convinced into parting with some of my extras for decent fees/trades... :)

And the stuff landed.
Nice hardcover book, the cards are very good quality, and the models - they actually seem better than they appeared on the KS, which is saying something! Very finely detailed, and I have to take my hat off to whoever painted the display models - they're not huge, and very intricately detailed. Best quality models in any KS I backed so far, although to be fair this is the only KS with metal models I have backed. I only went in for the basic package and a couple of bands and extra heroes, but the pile of metal (and one resin beastie - Tiny) including the KS extras is impressive.
And it was also fun to receive a list which says: 'free gorilla' :D
VERY glad I supported this one. 8) 8) 8)

I'm even happier, and thanks for delivering a grand product :D
I agree re the Grimm, they look like fun - although I think the ankle biters will, of all things, get pole position on the painting list.
-
Yup, mine arrived in the UK too.
Lovely book and superb models!
For me, pole position on the painting table has to be the hovercats 8)

Jim

And knowing your style, they'll be ready quite soon and will be a spectacle! 8)
By the way - I realise that it sounds strange to praise the KS paintjob and then say the models look even better in the flesh (as per my post a few posts back) - the paint jobs are brilliant, but the detail which can be seen close up on the unpainted minis is really worth writing home about.
