Title: Megablocks Ships
Post by: darquebus on 16 January 2014, 11:39:10 PM
I had a request 2 weeks ago to show again the Megablocks ships I had posted years ago....

These ships are a very cheap source for very playable ships that fit 28mm very well.
I bought these in a toy shop on sale for around $35 or so...
I have used a pair of clippers and got rid of all the little knobs and covered it with card board that I bought in a supply shop for architecture students (see pic bellow) I just cut it to size, glued it onto the ship and gave it a quick dry brush...done
Just put the mini on for scale

Here they are.

I forgot to mention. for the rigging I used rubber bands, looks good and makes it easier to place minis on the decks as the band just "move aside"

Also bought this in a department store for just $26.
This is a fantastic model, but needs more work/paint to make it look not too "toy-like".
But the size is perfect. it looks "shorter on the pic than it actually is...

When my paint room cools down (no air con in there) I start an this one...right now we got 44 degrees and the paint dries on the brush before you can use it  :?

Hi darquebus,

Thanks for the pics, I am not sure I will go the route of using card board.  But I love the pics and the dry brushing.  I am going to have to make a lot of modifications.  Partially due to the boats I purchased had some damage, I am also having to rebuild the boats out of a "lot" purchased from ebay so much of the stuff is mixed.  I dont even know if i have the instructions for the Empress ship.

However that all said, my goal is to do something very similar to what you have done above, i do love the rigging btw.  One thing though that I am hoping to do, is make these have conversions turning these sea fairing beauties into devastating airships as well.

Any thoughts or ideas, i see you are also working on an airship.
