Taking my 40mm old west figures out of storage, I discovered a few were yet unpainted, so I remedied that.
Here are the first couple, a pair of cowboys. I also have a couple armed townies almost finished. I'll post those here later.
These are by HLBS (now sold by minifigs.uk and Knuckleduster, who has their own excellent range of 40mm ((and 28mm)) old west.)
I went about painting these using a heavy-handed version of the "english" system (three-color layering) to somewhat simulate a Frederick Remington painting.

Nice work!
:-*
Old West is something that translates well to 40mm, I reckon.

... And here are the other two, originally by HLBS.

After seven years, my entire 40mm old west collection is painted (photo below was taken last week and doesn't include the four figures in this thread).

Absolutely top notch work!
:-*

Brilliant :D work EvilC!! :-*
Although, you've cost me a fortune as I hadn't realised that minifigs had picked the range up. :P Did they get the Paper street soap company range too?
Time to sort out my collection.
Are those figures based on 25mm rounds?
-
Excellent work again, just o_o at the sight of the full collection.

I'm not sure what happened to Paper Soap.
And yes, those are 25mm round bases, though, I'd prefer 30 or 40mm (which I had little access to when I first painted these figures.)
-
Just been on the website and the old Paper street stuff is under the spaghetti western section. :D
I was going to go with 30mm bases myself.
How does the knuckleduster stuff compare size wise to the Hlbs figures?
-
thats an excellent collection.. :D :D :D
-
That's very cool.
I'd like to see some closeup of all of them ;D
-
Ray, the HLBS and Knuckleduster figures match up perfectly. The Knuckledusters have a slightly different sculpting style (they're a little more hard-edged) but they still fit well together.
Treebeard, visit my blog at: http://carmensminiaturepainting.blogspot.com/
You can either do a search for 40mm old west, or you can scroll down a bunch on the main page and see a list of 40mm old west articles along the left side. Just too many to show here :)

I feel like it's a crime that those ever ended up stuffed away in a box... lol
-
Thanks EvilC. :D Looks like Caliver carry the Knuckleduster 40mm's so might have to get a pack for a look. ;)

Now you know where that road leads...
-
Don't I just. ::)
I've already got some of the Hlbs figures so surely a couple more won't hurt.. lol
-
These are gorgeous! And I really feel that 40mm should be the default scale.
-
Holy biscuits, what an amazing bunch. Love that rich colour!
-
:-*
That is one beautiful collection of figures! Will you be building a 40mm western town/city to go with them? :D
Cheers

... AND all of the buildings are furnished. I also have a sawmill. Almost everything is scratchbuilt:
Many a good game were played using all of this.

Fantastic I love these figures!
-
That Gunshop is seriously sweet!!

This post just gets better.

I've been away from the Old West for a while, walked down memory lane as I first laid eyes on your lovely 40mm's back when I just got into the hobby, visited your webpage to have a look and wondered where I can get hold of them again...
AND then I discovered this post!!! Stunning work on these lovely figures and the terrain is absolutely top notch and I concur, it's absolutely sacrilege to have them stuffed away in a box!!!
-
That is just first rate work. You should be proud of your accomplishment.

The old HLBS figures are still available here:

I also recommend Knuckleduster's 40mm old west (which fit well with HLBS):
