Title: GW vs. Mantic minis?
Post by: richarDISNEY on January 31, 2014, 04:59:00 PM
Are GW and Mantic minis comparable?
Are they about the same size?
Thanks!

They are not. The Deadzone Marauder figures, for example,  are about the same size as the old GW Gorka Morka minis and smaller than the 40K figs. Their fantasy range is much smaller than the GW fantasy figures.

They work as distinct units in the game if you don't mix and match them with GW minis in the same unit.

Yep, much smaller, thinner, fragile..and a bit...static in most of their poses.  I will say, however, I love the Mantic unit "bits" that come on the sprues.  Point of fact it's the only thing I've ever used from the kits I bought, with the small exception of their quite fantastic ghouls.  Definitely a smaller scale for sure.

Um, as usual, typing in "Mantsic size comparison" into Google images come up with pretty much every model made by Mantic. Did you try that?

Size aside, I've been disappointed by pretty much everything I got from Mantic barring a few of the undead. The orcs make good bases for human mutant conversions, though.

If you're going to get shirty you should at least check for typos. lol

I can thoroughly recommend the undead, use them in my army, even swap GW heads and bits on to them and they look fine. The elves are very very spindly, dwarfs are bigger than GW beardies, orcs are smaller but then you could always use them as hobgoblins or lessers orcs or greater goblins. Depends what you want to do, your question is a bit vague.

Their undead are easily their best range.

I like their elves tbh while many consider them way to spindly and thin.

Again I will put in a vote for the undead being good next to GW.

Both these guys use GW and Mantic bits (And a privateer press horse).

In this picture there are mixed privateer press risen, then the other guys are GW and mantic mixed parts, heads and legs are mantic, torsos and arms are GW.

Again PP thrall in the middle, GW flagellent legs and mantic zombie on the left (GW and another manufacturer I fail to remember parts on the right).

GW head, torso and legs (were originally sitting ones though) with mantic ghoul arms
(http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--0JpWE_pTsI/UDZWommNCtI/AAAAAAAAApo/E-fUln40UjU/s640/Recently+Updated10.jpg)

Mantic ghouls with GW plastic necromancers and a Mordheim dreg at the back (and a wiz of the coast figure, and a PP thrall).

Again a mix of mantic and GW parts

I've also seen the new palidins on foot used effectively in a GW comversion and also the men at arms legs (just the legs). But in generall Mantic are definately too small compared to GW HOWEVER the exception to this are the Dwraves which are taller than GW dwarves....

Also stay away from the men at arms.

Nah, how on Earth is that shirty?  ??? I pointed out something pretty obvious, then still gave a reply based on my own experience.

Mantic need to redeem themselves a little before I bother to add them to my browser's dictionary anyway!

Men at arms legs used here, though I personally think the heads (which are from mantic sisters) are too small...

Nice work Maxxev, I really like the undead stuff.  I was wondering if the Mantic zombies would work with the flagellant legs for some Nurgle Plague zombies.

And once done get more converting done and posted here to show comparisons.

The paladins, mostly this is just the paladins with the sisters heads, very little GW here, but of the minis in the kickstarter the base models for the paladins are the only ones I would say are roughly the same scale as GW empire figs.

Sister arms on GW dark elf bodies with GW flagellent heads

QC has a ton of stuff, and you can find his work on Warseer (on Toms boring mordheim forum there are two threads as the first one went over the post number limit lol).

You always got to make me work for it instead of just posting links to make it easy.
Now get back to da dwarves.

Yes, i figured it out after when i looked for a member named QC only to not find any QC in the member list. But i did happen across Quidamcorvus' stuff. He has a wicked way with models doesn't he? His one knight in the WHQ topic i just absolutely love.
Now where is the link on Tom's Boring Mordheim or do we all have to do some hard browsing there as well? :-)

Grimm

Correction. QC didnt do the knight in the WHQ topic. That pleasure belongs to Shas'El Tael who does some fantastic work as well. It is his converted knight that i love a ton.

It will be on the first page of the miniatures gallery (NOT the painting and modelling sub-forums mind)....
