Hello fellow wargamers!
I have finally launched a kickstarter for my zombie war game BioSyndrome!
The rulebook is free to download and contains three games: A modern wargame, a fantasy wargame, and a RPG pen and paper version.
BioSyndrome Kickstarter! (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1792322775/bio-syndrome-a-survival-horror-table-top-war-game?ref=live)
For those who read my previous posts: I have purchased 12 of brother vinnis "not-fallout" power armor troops and will be adding in a brother hood army list. just saying.
If nothing else, the rulebook is free to download and a link can be found on the KS page! Thanks for reading, as always I'm open to feedback and constructive criticism. Happy gaming!
-
A few answers to people from the recent locked thread about my KS:
@Scorpio: I agree that having a free rule book is probably hurting my KS. Don't really have a way around it though since my rule book is free to download and will remain so. A lot of potential backers will probably just wait and let other people fund it. I'm completely fine with that, all of my backers are people who like contributing to a community project and not just another commercial product. It is worthy to note that my rule book is only really 33% complete, I require additional funding to finish it (hence the KS).
@Sangennaru: I do actually have a donate button right on the same page for my rulebook download. so far no one has donated there.. classic, i know. The Kickstarter is actually going rather well though, 88% funded and like 55 days to go! Now just to get to those stretch goals!
I'm also open to any suggestions and ideas if anyone has anything they think should be changed or added to the rule book. Always looking to improve the fox hole! I'd also like to mention that the KS has been great at getting my game noticed, i've seen TONS more views on youtube, likes on facebook and downloads of my rule book. If you can, spread the word in your gaming groups, the rule book is free!
Thanks again for the interest and support!
-
BioSyndrome has reached it's initial funding amount! Now on to the 1st stretch goal: Digital Cards for each weapon/armor/equipment/spell!
New important project updates are available on the KS page.
I'd like to pose a question to the members of LAF:
Concerning skirmish and wargames, would you prefer a generic weapon system (shotgun, pistol, assault rifle, smg ect) over a specific named weapon system (AK47, M16, desert eagle, glock ect)? Both have pros and cons. The generic system would stream line the rules and make upgrades and custom army creation easier. The specific system adds more flavor and options. At the end of my KS i will be giving a survey to all backers to decide. I would like to know what everyone here thinks?
Thanks, and as always happy wargaming!
-
Generic weapon types maybe easier to keep track of. Less duplication of effort. I also understand that you will need to revamp portions of your rules set, but in the end, I think it will be worth it. You may also be able to increase the number and types of weapons without making the armories to expansive.
-
yes i concur. I'm secretly hoping the vote passes to change the system to generic (i get one vote as well). Again I'm still going to put it to a vote since I have official financial backers now and believe that they deserve a say in the change. It will really streamline the rule set and upgrades. Luckily I only have a few weapon artwork pieces that currently overlap (MP5, Mac10, and a few pistols).
A few other people have also suggestion running weapon upgrades if we move to the generic system (scopes, silencers, double mags ect). I will incorperate those into the RPG rules for certain. Probably won't be in the 2 wargame version though.
I appreciate your input and am still open to opinions or suggestions! Thanks!
-
That makes sense. The upgrades would have a much bigger impact in the RPG.
-
posted some neat pictures you all might enjoy.. work in progress of course, need a coat of paint.
brother vinni's lines of course. I have the army list in the rule book (by the way I released v1.9 today) though the list doesn't have points yet. v1.9 is mostly RPG stuff, with a few minor adjustments to some unit stats.
-
So I've been busy this weekend redesigning the entire rule book in photoshop. If anyone would be so kind as to let me know what they think that would be stellar. It is quite tedious and time consuming, the sooner i know i need to fix something the better! (like if the text is too big, or if the template is too much). Again, feedback is most welcome!

I'm also going through the entire rule book clarifying a lot of stuff. I'm on about page 10 of like 60 or 70.. long way to go. The army lists will be completely redone. The front page will have the artwork, quick view unit chart and some army fluff, following that each unit will get it's own page for stats, miniature examples and available upgrades. This will add quite a bit of content to the rule book. It's also noteworthy that this will increase the amount of ink it takes to print. Instead of scrapping the original google doc version, I'm going to make it all text for a more printer friendly version (no timetable on that yet).
Hope you enjoy the update! Happy wargaming!
-
Looks really good to me!
Jake
-
CPTJake: Now you know where your female survivor sprue i bought off you awhile back ended up going towards! If you look closely you'll also see those extra weapons you threw in on the power armored troops earlier in this thread.
Glad you like the new design! I appreciate the feedback!
-
Looks great.
-
Thanks. There are a few minor things I'll need to fix here or there like paragraph indentation (one page is indented, other isn't). Might add in some more blood splatters too. I'm not on page 13 (which is page 9 of v1.9). I have a long way to go.. !
Anyways, appreciate the feedback, thanks Fatroc!
-
Looks good to me dude ;)
-
Thanks brummie. Sorry you have to deal with my spam on two forums ;D
I'm now on page 18.. no turning back now. I start on the army lists tomorrow night..
As always, I humbly thank you all for all your feedback. We are back to 100% funding, and hopefully with reach a few of the stretch goals soon!
-
Some new shots of the redesigned army lists.. I'd be happy to know if you guys are liken em! Important to note that I'm testing the generic weapon system out to see how it looks on paper. Got a long way to go towards the 1st stretch goal!

-
The redesign looks great. You are doing an awesome job on this!
-
Thanks! I appreciate it. Hopefully we can reach some of the stretch goals so i can do more with the rulebook. I have a lot of content planned just need some financing to finish it.
How do you like the generic weapons? I think they look and feel better. A lot of people know what a M16 is but there are others who do not. With the generic system it makes the rules much more streamlined. Anways, thanks again for the input!
-
I definitely believe generic weapons are the way to go. The weapons cards are looking good.
-
The cards are awesome. It's the first stretch goal, i've notice my KS campaign has slowed down one i hit the initial funding. Next week I'm going to make a video to show people how to print them off and put them in card protectors gaming on the cheap style. They will really enhance all 3 games, I Think i just need to show some people how they turn out once printed and my KS will pick back up. I'd really like to have cards for all equipment, spells, armor and weapons.. really add some extra flavor to the game.
-
I haven't pledged yet but will before it ends.
I too like the generic weapons. In my opinion, a modern military rifle is a modern military rifle for the most part. It is the training and confidence of the trigger puller that is what makes the difference.
-
Have to agree on that CptJake. Looking forward to the video oddeye.
-
Yep.. I'm digging the generic weapons too. It is starting to get out of hand adding in to many of really the same weapon I'm kinda hoping the vote passes at the end of the KS. I do appreciate any support CPT Jake, as you all can see with a little bit of help I can create nice things for everyone! =)

Thanks again for the interest, comments are most welcome here!
-
With the generic weapon categories, it allows people to field what ever models they have. After all, a shotgun is a shotgun, a light machinegun is a light machinegun etc... etc... It will also save you time (less duplication of effort), and open up more space for additional cool content! :D
-
The new lay-out looks great but I just quick read, the content and saw tenticles isn't it supposed to be tentacles. Can be wrong though as English isn't my native language.
-
I must have missed that. Another person pointed out the zombie walker actually has 2 HP not 3. There are a few adjustments here and there I still need to fix but the bulk of the work is done (photoshop layers and getting those stats in there). I'm also familarizing myself with in-design to help with the text placement. Thanks for the interest and pointing that out, I do appreciate the assistance!
Edit: Fatroc: Yes, i think generic weapons will allow me to add in the weapon attachments as mentioned earlier. If we can get to those stretch goals I can add in some artwork for weapon attachments. Could be interesting, first you choose a unit, then you choose that units available upgrades and weapons, then you can even choose upgrades for the weapons equipped. Could leave a lot of room for error though, you might end up forgetting that your weapon has a bonus in the heat of combat. The cards might help mitigate it, idk. I'm definately adding attachments into the RPG for sure, will have to do some testing on the wargame versions.
-
I've launched a new KS stretch goal set at 2400$:
A heavily mutated tentacle zombie! If the stretch goal is reached all backers at the 25$ pledge level and on will receive one "patient zero" miniature along with free shipping to anywhere in the US. International backers will have to help out with the shipping. This is a KS exclusive backer reward! No reprints allowed!
Concept art and more information can be found at the update link below. Take a moment and check it out!

I appreciate any support from backers here! Thank you!
-
The fantasy cards look great. The text widow makes it much easier to read.
-
Thanks! I might add in a few icons and even lighten the text up a bit more depending on how they print out. Also might add in the point costs (though I'm hesitant due to the fact points costs for equipment are quite dependant on the unit equipping it.. (long story but I'll have a very cool release coming soon for anyone interested in designing custom armies..).
The modern cards are going to get a redone version as well. they will end up much like the fantasy cards just a modern theme. Also coming very soon!
The master Patient Zero mini is coming out later this week. We still have plenty of time to get to that stretch goal so I can send him off to the caster. With a little luck most backers will get a nice miniature out of it to use in their games!
=)
-
Great news! I'm not sure the points on the card would be necessary. I believe the purpose of the cards is for a fast in-game reference, correct? At that point, the cost of equipment is already figured into the lists.
-
You are correct good sir! I think i'll leave the points off, you'll need to look at the army lists anyways plus it wouldn't fit with the RPG system then. The modern version card is coming along quite nicely! Jericho sent me a draft yesterday morning, should be done with it soon!
Now just waiting on that master "patient zero"!
-
The cards will be P&P?
-
Yes sir! One of the stretch goals is for actual printed complete card sets mailed to you (one of the higher goals) and if we reach the digital card stretch goal at 1750 (still 200 dollars short) I'm thinking of offereing a selection of physical 1-5 cards for all backers 25$ and up in card sleeves.
Printing them out is actually a lot easier than it may sound, costs about 5 bucks and takes about 20 -25 min.
150 pages of card stock at walmart is 4.50$ (about the same thickness as a alpha magic card) and it's sized to legal paper and works in any home printer. I've sized the digital cards that I have (still missing a bunch, hence the stretch goal) to the exact size of a card sleeve. All you have to do is put in the card stock sheet of paper into your printer, open the page and hit print. The 20 minutes comes from you having to use a scissors and cut them out.

Oh, P&P is no problem at all, I have a great paper cutter :D I just wasnt clear and so I thought to ask!
Cheers!
-
Great! you know i was using scissors and my wife has a really nice paper cutter. g dang it ! why didn't i think of that earlier...
I'll be releasing the new modern card format (background artwork) tonight or tomorrow. Did you like the layout of the fantasy cards? I'm open to input as I haven't actually created all the cards yet, I can still edit the template. Much rather feedback now vs after i made 70+ cards.. haha.
-
And the modern card layout:
Let me know what you all think! I can adjust the text, icons, layout ect. Update 9 is out on the KS, stop by and check out the latest information!
Thanks!
-
I like the new format for the modern cards. The text is much easier to read now.
-
The cards look great! Nice art and easy to read. I dont care for cards that try to rewrite the rulesbook onto them. They become way too busy and lose some of their usefulness as a quick reference utility.
Nice stuff, looking forward to seeing them finished!
-
Thanks for the feedback, i do appreciate it!
I know what you mean about putting to much text on the card. These are short, simple and to the point. Saves you from having to look back at the rulebook master weapon chart all the time, and everyone loves neat cards! Again, making a video this weekend after I whip up some more and print them out. only 55$ away from the stretch goal!
-
Not sure I am in a position to financially back it but it looks very good. I do hope you get good backing.
are you planning army lists in the rule book?
Also how kid friendly will the artwork be? Zombie stuff tends to be a bit gory compared to what I am willing to show my kids ... my youngest being ten.
-
Archie: good questions! When i finish the new version 2.0, the original document will be stripped of artwork and be used as the "printer friendly" quick start version. On the other hand, i would avoid showing them the new redesigned version 2/0 as it does have undead zombies and blood.
The rule books already have army lists! 1.9 (the original) has both a modern and fantasy version.. coalition, zombies, survivors, evil company and even the german whermacht for the modern version and knights, samurai, pirates, undead pirates, zombie horde, dark dragons for fantasy and probably a few more I'm missing. Also it's important to note that you can create your own armies.
And a semi larger preview of the new modern layout! We only need 55 more dollars to reach the stretch goal to unlock all the missing cards! =)

AWESOME NEWS!
-
yes it is good sir!
And we are closing on that 2nd stretch goal "Patient Zero" miniature fairly quickly. only 488 dollars away! =)
-
first digital print card pack is out! If you don't get a good turn out on the test page with default settings wait until my video comes out. I'll go into optional printing techniques to get a better print run.
link is in update #11

Enjoy

This is going to sound nitpickey, but the green text looks really cheap to me. I'd go with a different color.
It also looks very dark, and may print even darker, so you may want to lighten it up a bit.
It looks great otherwise though!
Backed it a few weeks ago.
-
Thanks for the honest feedback (and support)! luckily i can change stuff rather easily now. I can play with different text colors, green seemed to jump out at me and catch my attention.
I'm not sure you'd want to print out the new redesigned version as it is graphic heavy (i'm probably going to though). I'm turning the old v1.9 into a printer friendly edition. Going to strip out all the pictures and fluff, more of a quick start guide that won't eat up ink.
I appreciate you telling me what you think, these are the types of things I need to know so i can make the rule book better for everyone!
Again, only a few days left on the kickstarter! Support, shares and likes are appreciated!

Like I said, totally nitpicking... For me, I want the focal point to be the information as much as possible. The background on these just seems a little bit heavy. I definitely would like to see the print version. For me, I still like to hold a copy in my hands... which of course presents a whole different set of concerns when you're doing the layout. It's hard to design for both in mind.
The cards look great! I can't wait to get my grubby hands on this all. I'm sure we'll get some games in with the local crew.

Yes i know what you mean! That is why I've decided to have two separate versions. A nice graphic one you can enjoy on the computer / tablet and a print ready version that has only the meat and potatoes w/ no art to save on ink.
The game is very much a work in progress, lots of goodies to come (and all free i might add)! Now that I have the initial funding I don't have to worry about missing artwork or design elements. Truth be told I'll be hacking away at this project for a long time.. =)

Believe me, I know the feeling!
-
yep.. just can't wait to finish redesigning what i have and cleaning it up so I can start adding what I'm really interested in. (take a look at my other thread with my nuclear brotherhood army). I'd also like to add in a ..cough.. "mega-mutants" army list if you can guess where I'm headed with that..
Therepoman, are you matt by any chance?
