Title: Looking for Weaponless 1930s figures
Post by: Doug ex-em4 on 06 February 2014, 11:07:24 AM
I need some figures to make in to Lewis gunners. Got some Lewis guns from Colonel Bill; now just need some civilians without weapons. One of them needs to be female. 25mm.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Doug

Open handed figures may be the way to go then....

My first thoughts turned to these as some are open handed and all are female:

BC17 Bolshevik Heroines

From Copplestone:

You could use the others in a Communist Faction... ;)

Thanks Paul - nice figures but I don't think they'll fit in with the WI very well... :)

I don't know about a lady, but brigade games makes Merchant Crew that come open handed.

I know I have another box of openhanded miniatures (Boer War volunteers at the Siege of Ladysmith, but I'll have to check who makes them

West Wind French civilians

Would you not be better to look for armed civilian (SCW?) types whose weapons you could replace with those of your choice?  It would mean their arms would be in the correct position for weapons?

Musketeer Miniatures do some 1930s civilians - not sure if they're posed to take a Lewis gun though.

Thanks for the various inputs.

Looking at the suggestions above, I think a mix of Perry Mafeking and Musketeer civvies should do it.

I must be the only person who hasn't got any Perry stuff. How do they compare for size with Musketeer. I'm happy to mix figures of different heights so long as they don't look out of scale with each other.

I don't have a huge amount of Perry stuff - mainly plastic cavalry, but I think they'd scale upmwell with Musketeer - maybe a little slighter but nothing too obvious.

@jp

Thanks Jon - I think the Perry's Mafeking set with separate weapons may fit the bill nicely in that case.

Perry Mafeking range scale in nicely with Musketeer. I use both alongside eachother without any problems.

One of the Perry packs has men marching with separate weapons, including a pose with his rifle on his shoulder. I've used this pose with a separate Lewis gun and it works well.

Good news all round because I ordered a set today.... :)

I'm glad to have your confirmation of their suitability.

Perhaps Dixon civilians?

I have them, they are on a small side of today's miniatures and smaller than dixon police men. I'd say they'd go well with miniatures I got from you.  :D

Blue Moon Manufacturing do a range of 20s/30s civilians.

Don't let the fact they're designed for Gangster games put you off, esp. as it offers the chance to have a pram mounted lewis gun. ;)

@6mmphil

I'd love the pram that's for sure but I don't need the rest in that set so I'll have to pass on that one.

I think I'm sorted now - ordered the Perry Mafekingson Sunday and found a suitable female figure from our own range.

Thanks for all the suggestions - great response.
