Post by: redshadows on 06 February 2014, 11:25:39 AM
Hi Everyone,

Here is A W.I.P shot of a Chakota I'm doing for Rafm's Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition miniatures Kickstarter.

he is about 52mm high.

What do you think so far?

Looks great! I like the sense of the faces swirling around its form.

Thanks  :)

Still got two masks still to do and waiting for the other tentacles to dry.

What do you think so far?

hmm, I am not sure about the masks yet. The principal question is what they are going to represent, is it just human faces or masks that represent human faces? In that case it would be more disturbing if they are actual and more natural faces that hide the horror beneath. In that respect I would not be a fan of the mask in the middle... (but there are many ways to interpret this monster, and not sure if it is something that should be explainable...)

Same ditto. I like the mask  and tentacle pose on the second from the left the best.

Also, deeper "holes" to insert the tentacles, so I don't have to pin them. Or is there a way to sculpt the miniature suchthat it looks fine w/out gluing together?

Hi thanks for the feedback  :)

I don't think I can sculpt the holes any deeper or it would affect the moulding and casting of the piece. They should hold together with a bit of glue, But I'll  look into it for you anyway.

Thanks
George

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the feedback  :)

I decided to redo the masks more in line with the artwork.

All the masks and body have wholes for the tentacles to fit in perfectly.

Its quite hard to photo with out being able to stick it together, but what do you think?

Please post pics when you get things painted. We would like to see what you have done with the pieces.
We have posted some of our painted pieces on our facebook page but we would like to see what our supporters have done! Thanks!

Thanks for making the masks "separate-able" from the tentacles. I'd like the latter three masks to look more "abstract" like the first two, or more like African masks, since Chakota is part of an African cult. Also, this figure will probably be my *only* chance to paint African masks, so thanks for the challenge. How large are the masks? I'd like to use them on other figures (eg. as masks on cult members or a zombie!), or as "trophies" in a patron's library alongside his FFG bust of Cthulhu! :D

The masks are about 15 to 20mm in size and they are separate pieces so it can built any way you choose  :).

Thanks
