Title: Majorsmiths fantasy thread, ogre standard bearer pg4
Post by: majorsmith on February 17, 2014, 05:54:25 PM
Trying to get back into painting, I've really struggled to get into it recently, busy with work and playing a lot of basketball really get in the way of painting, I've finished 2 barrows in another thread and this seems to be helping me back into painting, the figures below I'm hoping will keep that trend going!

Both finished & W.I.P., you've got some GLORIOUS minis there. Your sense of color & brushwork are EXCELLENT; & the bases are TERRIFIC. Keep up the OUTSTANDING WORK!

Nice work!  I especially like the top picture (the elf - one of my favorite GW/Citadel models) and the plastic wraith.  But all are quite nice.

Where do they come from?

Very nice paint jobs.

What's the grass surface you're playing on?  it looks very realistic.

One of those garden mat/liner things - looks a treat.  I don't know what it's actually called.
Title: Re: Getting back to painting SCENERY AND FIGURES ADDED
Post by: majorsmith on April 02, 2014, 10:21:58 PM
It's a hanging basket liner, about £5 from most garden centres, the columns are gw arcane ruins, not too bad, but had to use a Dremel to add detail as it only seems to be on the front and not the sides.

Basket liner added to the list! Thank you very kindly...

Rest of the arcane ruins, I figure these will be okay for my argonaut figures too

The Old & Relatively Old Boys look SPLENDID. A FINE bit of brushwork & basing with an eye for colors can wonders on the older minis bringing out the charm often lacking in the newer pieces. VERY WELL DONE!

What's the deal with "moon duke"?  Is he a goblin or orc, or does his moon just happen to be sculpted in a very goblin/orc fashion?  Love your figures.  Keep posting!

I wonder if I'm able to find that garden liner thingy here abouts...
I went looking for such a thing at Home Depot last week and had no luck. What they had for 'hanging basket liners' looked more like the husk of a coconut... kinda brown and hairy and shaped into a bowl... not flat... nothing like the picture.
I'm gonna have another go at one of the local dedicated garden shops... and if not there maybe Walmart.

Looking around online you can find 40"x60" sheets...but you have to look around a bit.

http://www.thinkmint.net/liners.html

Look at the bottom entry "liner sheet for custom fitting" etc.  This was a quick search I didn't check brands, or even colour.  Almost 95% of the ones that popped up were pre-shaped for planters.

You've done an OUTSTANDING job with the standard bearer. The brushwork & base are inspiring to the point that I've dug out Capt. John's set of Ogres from the Vault for some attention. VERY WELL DONE!
