Title: Mirelurk Egg Clutch suggestions?
Post by: greyseerco on February 22, 2014, 07:18:19 AM
So I am working on my Pacific West Coast Mirelurks based on the Red Rock Crab -cancer productus (so no, they do not look like FO3 Mirelurks, but fit the same role), and I am trying to find some egg clutch terrain, and was hoping for some suggestions from the forum.

Many thanks.

Fenris do the Colossal Shoggoth which is a pulsating mass of bubbles and pustules (which could be small eggs)

Something like that wouldn't be too difficult to achieve with just a bit of clay/beads. Just roll up some little balls to serve as eggs and add them into a pile of dirt with a few rocks. I have seen egg piles in a compatible scale before, but only second hand at shows, so they're out there at least. =/

..I can sculpt and cast some if you want.

But yea.. Just doing it yourself would be easy. Start with a cone of putty, blob beads in, when it's set you just sculpt another layer on top of the cone and push lines in.

Thank you all for the suggestions, time to hit up the bead section of the local hobby store.  I am sure egg shaped ones shouldn't be too hard to find at this scale.
But at least these guys are done.

Nice, but if that cowgirl is 28mm, then those Mirelurks are gigantic...
I'm guessing 40mm bases ?

Yep, 40 mm bases.
So while Mirelurks were a head shorter than humans, the Mire Lurker Hunters that I remember encountering were about a head taller than humans.
The chassis for these Mirelurk variants was the Reaper Hooked Terror, with its crested ridge makes it appear taller than its head.   But that is sadly neither here nor there,  I just couldn't keep waiting for someone to cook these into minis.    I had high hopes of armorcast but it looks like the FO line is not growing.

Take a look at fish tank terrain. I have seen a lot of stuff like the piece you have pictured. Just add some beads of glue or paste or resin then paint whatever color you think is right for your egg clutches.

True.

I've got some Crooked Dice Envoys which will become civilized Mirelurks because of their loin cloth...  ::)

@greyseerco

I may give those Reaper models a go as Hunters too at some point. Pity that I can't find one on Reaper's site. Are they discontinued?

True.

Civilised? Bah, nae they're Rocklurks (referring to their rockpool habitat and the toughness of their shells) that have been pressed into gladitorial service!
