Title: Two Big Pyramids/WIP
Post by: War In 15MM on 23 February 2014, 12:41:59 AM
This past week I’ve been working on my Playmobil pyramids for my Egyptian archeological collection.  The pyramids are huge, measuring about 20” at the base and about 14” or 15” in height.  I decided to leave one very much as it came from Playmobil.  The only significant change to that one in terms of structural appearance is that I’ve added a fourth side.  The original Playmobil pyramid comes with just three sides so that the kids can play inside, but since I prefer to do separate interiors, I purchased a fourth wall for both pyramids on eBay.  In order to give the second Playmobil pyramid a more classic pyramid look, I’ve removed all the statuary detail from the exterior walls and covered those areas with Evergreen plastic fashioned after the rectangular blocks already present on the pyramid.  It took a lot of cutting and gluing, but I think it will look pretty good once painted.  I have a little more detailing to do on both pyramids, but I hope to begin painting them next week.  The figures shown are by Copplestone Castings and Hinterland. That is one big  :o :o terrain piece.  Your modifications are very nice.  I look forward to seeing this deployed on the table!

Just in case I wasn't clear, those pics are not a before and after.  They are two separate Playmobil pyramids.  One I have left pretty much as it came and the other I have modified.  You are very right in saying they are big pieces of terrain.  My layout for my Egyptian archeological dig will actually be done on two 5 ft. X 7 ft tables.  Thanks for taking the time to write.  Richard

They'll look great finished up! They're not too big anyway, imagine a pyramid "to scale"  :o

Andrew, thanks for writing.  I agree with you that they aren't too big though they are big pieces of terrain.  I really love the pyramids and hope I do them justice when I paint them.  Right now I'm in the middle of painting my temple complex which is also very large, but I hope to have it and one of the pyramids painted by the end of next week.  So far it's been a lot of fun.   Richard

Today I finished painting my Egyptian temple complex.  I've been painting it for the last nine days.  Tomorrow I plan to spray one of the pyramids black as its base coat in preparation for giving it its color.  That painting process will take a few days/maybe a week but I'm really looking forward to it.  Thanks for writing.  Richard
