Title: Any LAFers in Lisbon?
Post by: Dave Knight on 28 February 2014, 09:20:39 AM
I may have a free evening in Lisbon early in April - I wondered if I might be able to get a game?

Bump - I will give most things a go

Also - any thoughts on what a wargamer might want to visit? And/or non wargaming spouse?

As to places to visit, I can recommend Belem, Sintra, and the historic city centre near the castle.
But I am at a loss to suggest any gaming activities.

Would love to help but I'm across the country from Lisbon  :'(

But it seems to me that the most active store in wargaming terms is this one:

http://kultgames.pt/shop/pt/

Working hours:
Monday to Thursday: 12:30 - 20:30
Friday: 12:30 - 22:00
Saturday: 10:00 - 22:00
Holidays: 14:00 - 19:30 (except in some cases)
Doesn't open on Sundays

You can try and drop them an email to see if you there are any gaming groups on your day there. I think they are running some games of Warmachine/Hordes; X-Wing; Fields of Glory (a tournament is going to start this month). There's also some people playing Infinity and I think Flames of War too.

There's also another store (my favourite one, I always try to go there when I visit Lisbon) but it isn't in the center of the city:

Myrdinns Magic
http://www.myrdinns.com/shop/en/content/4-about-us

Hours:
Monday   09:00 - 19:00
Tuesday   09:00 - 19:00
Wednesday   09:00 - 19:00
Thursday   09:00 - 19:00
Friday   09:00 - 19:00
Saturday   10:00 - 16:00
Sunday   10:00 - 16:00

Contact: myrdinns@hotmail.com (there's another on their page, but I never used it, just this one).

It's smaller than the Kult one, but it's got a great owner and plenty of other games about - SAGA, Malifoux, etc.

As for other places to visit - as a wargaming tourist, nothing better than the Museu Militar de Lisboa (Lisbon Military Museum)!. I would like to offer you the official site in English, but there isn't any  :o so I'll go the Tripadvisor way:

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g189158-d243615-Reviews-Museu_Nacional_Militar-Lisbon_Estremadura.html#REVIEWS

And in that zone, near the river Tejo there's lots and lots of monuments that even a non wargaming spouse can visit ;)

http://www.igespar.pt/en/monuments/40/ - Monastery of Jerónimos
http://www.igespar.pt/en/monuments/51/ - National Pantheon
http://www.igespar.pt/en/monuments/41/ - Tower of Belém

And near this last one you get another Military Museum (a smaller one).

right next to it there's a monument to all the Portuguese soldiers who died in the Colonial War (1961–1975). It's very beautiful at night:

Hope it helps!

If you have only one evening (with spouse):

and make sure to use the elevator.

Timings are not confirmed yet but I expect to have a spare Sunday evening (when gaming would be good) >:D, a week with work colleagues and then a long weekend with my wife.

Hello Dave,

like Predator said, Kult Games is the most active shop in Lisbon but it's closed on Sundays
Myrdynn's Magic (unfortunately) is closed (don't know if temporarily or permanently)

So, what's your poison? I think I can try to arrange a game (I have a couple of ideas in mind. ie. aliens, samurais, 20th century skirmish, fantasy...), do you have an idea about the date? and can you manage to arrange another day instead of a Sunday? I'm asking this because the shop is closed

My apologies to the OP, I didn't knew that Myrdynn's Magic was closed  :'(
