Title: The Battle of Lund 1676
Post by: Jeppan on 08 March 2014, 10:46:26 AM
A friend of mine got me into project to stage the Battle of Lund 1676. The battle of Lund is the second bloodiest battle in the history of Scandinavia. It was affair between the Danes and the Swedes and would eventually settle the fate of the Scanian provinces. Whoever won this battle would control the southern part of the Scandinavian Peninsula.  It all ended with a Swedish victory, albeit a rather costly one.

The battle itself took place in the beginning of December (December the 4th to be more exact).  This created a slight dilemma when creating the bases. There would be snow, but not much, rather an autumn landscape with occasional spots of snow. In the end copied the basic idea from the creations of my gaming companion.

Thus far I have pained two Swedish units of cavalry. Both units participated in the battle of Lund. The banner used by the Smaland cavalry is supposed to the right one. The Savolax banner is more of a guess.

Some work in progress....

This is a trooper from the Viborg Cavalry regiment. The is a minature from Front Rank. I had to do few conversions. The glows for example was not part of the original minature. A scapel and some green stuff helped me solve the issue.

Very interesting, and nicely painted miniatures, thanks for sharing.

Outside Scandinavia we don't know much about these battles and all these Northern wars etc
(in fact, we don't know anything about them  :D).

Thank you for the kind comments...  :)

Scandinavian affairs can indeed be a bit obscure.
The Battle of Lund was a part of the Scanian war. However the bigger picture gives at hand a much bigger  European conflict in which Sweden sidled with France and the Danes allied themselves with the Dutch. There where Dutch units present at the battle of Lund.

In any case the work with the forces of his Swedish majesty continues....

The Viborg Cavalry will soon be ready for battle. Some additional paint and snow and these Finns will be compleated.
