Hi all,
I'm looking for minis that would suit the look and feel of a Lovcraftian warband of Reanimated. I want the themes to extend from the facts and ideas found in the original Herbert West tale.
I see this as being mostly distinct from the usual zombies and undead. Whilst a small portion might be useful for those sufficiently decayed I think there is less emphasis on the obviously rotted undead....Mostly normal looking even, but with singular fatal wounds, autopsy stitching and a pallid eerie paint job.
The story includes reanimated dead from the fields of WW2 Flanders, a boxer, insane patients, Not to mention West and a Major as 'leaders'.
I don't want overtly 'comical' or 'comicy' looking minis, I really want to achieve as creepy a look as is possible!
Happy to go into details about the main characters etc, but what minis would suit the main troops based on my ideas above? 28mm give or take! Affordable a bonus!
Feel free to suggest any ideas for anything else too!
Thanks :)

You could try west winds secrets of the third Reich zombies they have Germans and Russian variants iirc, you could even just use gas mask troops if you paint them right they can look creepy enough, maybe give the bare arms a greenish tinge

Could these ones suit your needs?

If I remember correctly Herbert West: Re-Animator was written in 1921 so the dead soldiers would be from the first world war, not the second.

Thanks for the excellent suggestions, really appreciate your help!
Yes, my mistake there and typed WW2 instead of 1! the main battle referenced is Flanders (belgium i think)
I suspect i can do a bit of subtle scraping on those plastic Nazis and paint in WW1 colours for sure.
Looking at other possibilities like Flesh Golems etc. Also random early 1900's vehicles, Tanks and artillery too.

Theres a Dreamblade mini that might look fine
allthough it may be a bit too comical for your taste

if porto isnt too high i could send you a spare one i have
also i could highly recomment 2 to 3 mantic zombies as they are cheap and look GREAT

Their leader, the reanimated Major Sir Eric Moreland Clapham-Lee, D.S.O., should be reasonably easy if you can find a WW1 Canadian officer figure. Replace his head with a Greenstuff wax one (or paint the face to make it look 'waxy') and give him a holdall to carry his real head and there you have it!

I'd be inclined to mod non-zombie figs rather than buy zombie figs. Part of it is that I don't personally picture Herbert West's reanimated bodies as "zombies" in the modern pop culture sense. I tend to imagine them as being aware and purposeful in a way that "zombies" aren't. Sort of more of a Terminator-like intelligent coldness than mindless atavistic shambling. In addition to the aggressively rotted/damaged style, zombie figures tend to strongly assume the latter in their poses.

Check out the zombies from tengu models. Not that pricey och great quality. They are also the only ones I have found that keeps the 20s theme. They also sell other great "non fantasy" zombies.

Hell yeah on the Mantics! I'm thinking I can combine them with the other zombie plastics out there (including the Hasslefree WW2 Zeds) and get a great mix.
And I would be very interested in that mini! More than happy to pay postage! I'll PM you.

Great Idea! I also want to create a group of 'bodyguards' who carry his head in a box like at the end of the story.

Those FGs will be great for a 'sewn together Berserkers' type unit. Also the chap above will be converted to be the 'Boxer' from the story. Unfortunately not in stock in the UK outlet for Reaper at the moment. >:(

Absolutely that. There is scope for some Zombies But I think they will be a minority, in that the majority were reanimated early, with the 'preserving fluid' (per the story) so will be more normal looking but with perhaps a single fatal wound evident. That being said I will certainly use zombies to represent the more degenerated reanimations. Those that were left late, or suffered horrible traumas (physical and mental!)
