Generals rejoice! The STRONGHOLD (http://www.wargamevault.com/product/110359/Mayhem?manufacturers_id=3556) expansion is now available for download on Wargame Vault.
The new material has been combined with the core rules to create the Battle Chest edition. What does this mean? It means that all of your content is available in a single convenient location. Not only that, but for players that have already purchased MAYHEM, all you need to do is return to Wargame Vault and download the updated version of the rules completely free of charge! So, what's in the expansion?
The STRONGHOLD (http://www.wargamevault.com/product/110359/Mayhem?manufacturers_id=3556) expansion includes rules for:
- advanced terrain options including the garrisoning, attacking, and burning of structures
- new designations like scout, skirmisher, and heroic skirmisher
- heroes to engage one another in epic challenges
- battle sorcerers that can focus their magical powers to control hulking mechanical constructs or harness the fury of bound behemoths
- new spells, traits, abilities, and gear
- building your own strongholds and keeps including over 15 upgrades to create the ultimate fortress
- siege engines and laying siege to enemy strongholds and keeps
- new scenarios including border keeps and a unique mass battle multiplayer mode
- campaigns and linked games with unit progression, multiple paths to victory, and seasonal weather effects[/li][/list]
The expansion has been set-up as a toolbox that will allow you to pick and choose the rules that best fit your group and the gaming experience you're looking for. It also means that the core rules will grow and evolve along with your tactical and strategic abilities.
Have fun storming the castle!

YEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH !!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D :o :P :-* o_o lol

I feel obliged to concur with my erstwhile colleague, here.
:D

Sounds like something I might be able to use, who else would recommend these rules for Fantasy skirmish/war gaming?
-
i bought the mayhem last week and it says the stronghold is free for people who have already purchased it. I went to the wargame vault and there is no new link to download and I can't even find stronghold. What am I doing wrong? :)

Sign in. Then go to Account. Then go to Updated Products under Library.
If the pdf was modified to include Stronghold it will be there.
You could also always just go to All Products in the same area and download it again.

I wouldn't say that Mayhem would be right for skirmish wargaming (I'd go for 2HW's rules) but I would certainly highly recommend it for full-blown battles. For me it is a bit like HotT but with far more flexibiity.

With esteemed LAF members like Scaramanga, Vermis, and capthugeca giving their endorsements, I can't imagine that you would need any further information! ;) 8)

Nothing at all! As Varangian and capthugeca already stated, you simply need to return to the site and re-download the MAYHEM PDF. :)

Ok this is weird. I did what you said about going to my acount and updated products and it doesn't show mayhem on it at all. (although I just found out about 7 other products I have bought have updates haha). If I go to mayhem it says i have bought this product and has like 4 downloads but if I download the game again it says I already have this product. It doesn't mention stronghold either, just mayhem

Okay, open up the MAYHEM PDF and go to page 27 [the new MAYHEM document is 44 pages and includes the expansion]. If you don't see the STRONGHOLD expansion cover there, then send me a PM.

Fingers crossed! :D

I've been eyeing these rules for a while. This expansion has probably just put them into the must buy, hopefully this weekend!

Excellent! I look forward to hearing what you think about the rules, and I'm around if you have any questions. :)
-
Ok, I guess I do have it :) not sure how that happened but thank you haha

I'm going to start another 'Mayhem' army in a couple of months to face-off against the one I finished last year. A dearth of opponents has meant that I haven't played much of anything since last year, but this is about to change and I hope to start playing 'Mayhem' regularly again. Obviously I am very excited to read through my expanded copy!
-
Oh, Scout and Skirmisher designations! I'll try and get these read over the weekend. Are there any changes to the core system?

No worries! :)

There are no changes to the core rules at all. So, you can dive right into the STRONGHOLD stuff. I think you'll definitely want to check out the heroic skirmisher designation! ;)

I've gotta look back at that skaven list too, and get stuck into a high elf book.

My problem too but I have found that it Mayhem works pretty well solo too.

Nice! Any chance of you telling us what the theme of the army is going to be or what units it's going to feature?

When I was looking at your skaven list before, I was thinking that a heroic skirmisher combined with the scout designation would be a good base to create a pretty nasty assassin build on. ;) Looking forward to seeing your High Elf list.
I have found that it Mayhem works pretty well solo too.
I've experimented with a couple of ways to play MAYHEM solo, but neither were quite polished or well tested enough to make it into the final product. It's something I'm still exploring, but I'm using an unconventional method and that means that it takes more time to properly vet.
I'd love to hear what method you use for playing solo. I'm sure that are plenty of solo gamers out there that would be grateful as well! :D

I've tended to borrow ideas from 2HW's rules, particularly Rally Round the King.
I created army lists that had about 50% of the points spent on obligatory troop types and then the other 50% created by dice rolls. The lists also defined what type they were (mainly cavalry, mainly defensive, etc).
The board was divided into nine sections and the scenery was laid out according to dice throws.
Troops were deployed depending on a dice throw compared to their type.
And from then on I found that the command rolls threw in enough uncertainty.
I'd be interested in learning more about your 'unconventional' methods. :D
-
I'm excited to see where this goes.
I'm really interested in seeing how this works for Middle Earth wargaming on a massive scale.
Combined... it could be a lot of fun to play through solo campaigns.

Soon! They are not quite ready for open testing yet. ;)

The Medieval Multiplayer mode woks really well for the largest Middle Earth battles. We played a couple out during development- epic stuff! :)
