Having started a new job in Nottingham at the tail end of the year I have grown weary of the travel from Leicester each day. So I have found a house and moving to near the centre of Nottingham. I am looking for gaming groups in the area so I can get to know the local community. I play a huge variety of games and bring my own terrain and model collection with me as the house is big enough to have a hobby room and a gaming room.
Any info will be great.

this is a joke, right? 1st of April is still coming though ;)
-
I know Nottingham is the spiritual heart land of the War gaming hobby, but other than 3 big companies and a number of supplier being here what is the wider community like.

Everybody knows that Nottingham is in the middle of nowhere gaming-wise.
-
What? Not even a gaming store? :'(

Every town ... has its ups and downs.
Sometimes ups ... outnumber the downs.
But not in Nottingham.
-
actually, on second thought, I think I understand the request better.
there must be so many people in the lead belt wargaming, it might be actually difficult and time consuming to find the right group.

There's some discussion of the Nottinghsm gaming scene in this thread here

THX for the hint - wow, I am overwhelmed! It appears like doing any other spare-time activity than wargaming might be the real shortage in the Nottingham area. Introducing lead-free miniatures years ago might have been a real environmental necessity down there ;).
possibly the continental shield has taken a few inches downwards there too? lol

What kind of things are you after? There are quite a few clubs around but most of them are GW biased. Will you have transport?
-
I have transport. I play most things other than GW. I enjoy most things, just to give you a head up on my painting desk there are some 20mm Chechens for modern along with 10 or so technical s, some shifty johnny foreigners for my ever expanding VSF, some German Mercs for Tomahawks and Muskets. I have a set of wheels so transport isn't much of an issue.

There must be more wargaming shops, manufacturers and clubs in Nottingham than any other place on the surface of the planet..........

Hardly any shops to be honest, probably because of the heavy bias to manufacturers. It's fairly easy to get stuff direct here.

Well I'm sure a VSF game could be arranged ;)
There is quite an active club that meets in Hucknall every week (in fact there are two, but one is GW) which is easy to get to from the city centre either by car or by tram. There is a small club (but hugely varied interests) that meets in the White Hart pub in Lenton each week. There is a club in the Meadows that meets in the community centre. Wargames Foundry likes to encourage people to play at their place in the city centre. Going further afield, there is the gaming centre in Sutton (about 30min drive) which was linked to earlier, a couple of clubs in Mansfield and the Newark Irregulars in Newark.
Where abouts in the city are you?

I'm between Carlton Road and The Wells Road about a 20 min walk from Foundry miniatures. Which may well cause wallet damage in the future.

What's with the "may"?

St Annes area... sorry... ;)
You've got easy access to all of them from there so you'll be all right. It'll be worth popping into Foundry and saying hi, Rob and Gareth are both good guys and will be able to tell you about local meet ups and upcoming games around there. Besides, making friends with places you're likely to spend money is always useful! Gareth does have an 'Oldhammer' obsession though ;)
-
Actually, Saturdays in Foundry are pretty busy gaming days - they have a decent gaming space and tables and there's usually something going on.
And the walls are lined with toy soldiers... ;D

Leaving Leicester, you traitor! :D Tabletop tyrant is all anyone should need :D
