There wer some moulds for making latex tents going about at one time but they seem to have disappeared into the ether- they were featured in James morris' El Cid WAB supplement quite a bit.
If anyone knows what happened to those moulds I'd be very interested in finding out too :).

I know exactly what happened to that particular mould.
It's on top of a shelving unit in my dining room.
:)
James made it when he was putting his El Cid armies together and cast tents using liquid latex that appear in the book. The mould is a plaster cast from a master he made.
He subsequently lent it to me and gave me detailed instructions for how to cast my own.
For several months it sat on my painting table looking folorn before I stored it on top of my cupboard about four years ago. Spotted it there last week and thought (not for the first time) I really must cast some tents and then give that back to James....

If you are going to cast some tents what is the chance of getting 2 or 3 ??? For a suitable remuneration of course. :D

I make tents with a soft wire frame. Spots of a general purpose glue (such as UHU) at strategic points will hold bits of paper towel in place. When this glue has set I give the paper towel a coat of thined wood glue. Do not worry if you tear it, simply wait untill it dries then patch it up. It is easy to put a second (or even a third) layer onto the structure. Try to 'wrinkle' the wet paper towels as this makes it very easy to dry brush the tent and have a nice look. As to colours I start with a black undercoat, which when dry gets a drybrush of gradually lighter & lighter greys (start with a very dark brown). The final touch is to drybrush 'dust' (light brown ) to the lower part of the tent. I find this method better to commercially produced tents as each tent will be different.
I hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip. I was going to use a set of wooden bamboo poles but the wire idea is a good one.

I never suspected you to be a Tory cabinet minister. ;)

Italeri make a small desert encampment set, nominally in 1/72 but a tent is a tent, a well, a well and a campfire a campfire. They should work with 28mm. The tents are low flat affairs, not grand Ghaddafi at court/ Lawtence of Arabia affairs.

Well, one or two of them probably play with toy soldiers.... I seem to remember one in particular who had a large collection.... Winston something or other....
Not so sure about his penchant for tights, well maybe Yankee silk ones.....
But I digress lol
