Title: Killshot's Fantasy Project (update February 22)
Post by: killshot on 25 March 2014, 01:42:53 PM
Many of these pictures have been seen before, but I've had a few requests to put all my fantasy miniatures into one thread.  I am using GW's LotR Strategy Battle Rules (big blue book) and just use the given stats for the different races - ie Elves, etc.

These are the High Elves I've been using:

Seaguard (they don't actually use their bows)

Swordmasters:

The High Elf army as it stands, awaiting me to paint some bowmen and knights:

The Dark Elves (still awaiting some extra highlights on the shields):

Ogre Mercenaries:

The Elves of Differing Alignments & the Ogres are all BEAUTIFULLY painted AND boast some LOVELY bases. The Big Redheaded Guy has a particular appeal for moi. VERY WELL DONE!

Thanks DeafNala, I have some Fireforge Foot Sergeants on the way who will be pressed into service as the humans in the setting.

Beautiful bright paintwork Killshot  :)

Thanks Captain Blood, the bright colors will only be used on the elves.  The rest of the armies will be dark and muted colors.

I really like the green/black combo on the Dark Elves – nice scheme.

Great painting all round!

I love the High Elves, love the Ogres, but really not feelin' the Dark Elf scheme.  I don't know, it just looks unfinished.  Great work regardless, and its your taste that matters, not mine!  lol

Paint work is superb, but I have to agree with the above, I think it's because a really good scheme should have 3 colours (and silver doesn't count), the dark elves only really have black and green going on, they really need another colour to make them pop.

Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the feedback, I will see if I can come up with something for the dark elves to help their look.

My Fireforge Foot Sergeants arrived in the mail this morning and I put together half of them.  I'm saving the other half.  These 24 represent a house that is slightly more wealthy, so their troops can afford crossbows and swords.  The other half will be of a less wealthy house and I plan for them to have archers and mainly axes and maces.

I will use Men of Rohan rules for the Sergeants.

Awesome stuff, I just received my first Fireforge plastics the other day - while not "amazing", they're very nice and I was pleased to see they're plug n' play with the Gripping Beast line of plastics which I really love.  You can get some cool combinations.  I'll be picking up the Mongols and some Dark Age Warriors from GB when they're all available.  Between the Vikings, Crusaders, Mongols and Dark Age Warriors you can drum up a ton of unique figures.

Can't wait to see what you do with these guys!

Thanks, Elbows.  I am still considering what I am going to do with the other half.  I thought I might make them into zombies or some sort of undead instead of more humans.

These Foot Sergeants are much better than the Templars I put together earlier.  The weapons are better sizes and the shield arms are more sensible.  I really like this kit.

That's a nice looking kit-bash Elbows, I am thinking about doing something similar.  Of course, GB is about to release the Arab foot soldiers so they might be used instead of the Vikings.

Here are my first 4 Foot Sergeants, I went for a very dark color scheme for them.  I decided to try something different for the skin tones.  I started with cork brown, washed it with brown ink, highlights with cork brown, washed with tanned flesh, and then highlighted again with cork brown.

I use Cork Brown for all of my flesh-tones, though I'll try something else for elves.  Nice choice, I like it.

I've seen cork brown used before, but I normally use dwarf flesh and elf flesh.  I thought that combination would give the skin too much of a warm glow for the down trodden look I was going for.

I was going to join the It's Alive threadromancy project but my topic here isn't old enough, so I'll just continue working from here.  Due work and military obligations I haven't done much painting or modeling in the last 8 months but everything is done so I have started painting again.   I don't have any pictures right now of complete models but I have finished a number of the Fireforge Sergeants.

In a addition to modeling I have developed some rules to use with my gaming group (my children) that I hope to start playing very soon.

I have aquired a box of GB Vikings and Warlord Games Celts and I have been kit bashing for a barbaric army of men.  My High Elves will get some archers and cavalry and the Men will also get some cavalry over the next couple of months.

After those few armies have been completed I'm want to turn my attention to armies that I've never really modeled, painted, or played - either dwarfs or undead.

But that's all down the road a little ways, stay tuned for pictures in the next few days.

Finished these 14 Fireforge Sergeants this evening.  There is a mixture of spearmen, swords men, one crossbow, and the leader of this force.  Most of the figures are built straight from the box set with the exception of a few heads from Warlord Celts.  The leader has an armored head and cloak from Fireforge's Templar box.

The figure on the right is the start of a barbarian force.  They will be composed mainly of Warlord Celts with Viking weaponry and helmets from Gripping Beast.

I didn't like how the skin tone was working on the barbarian miniatures so I changed it to a better look (I think!). I don't really have a fantasy world totally in mind as I build and paint these miniatures but I think ideas are starting to form.

I like the warmth you've added to the re-worked barbarians' flesh. Great combination of forces you have put together so far!

Thanks Jevenkah, I think the skin color is much better too.

I painted these with the idea that they're fallen/disbanded Templars who have not given up their calling. Despite their fall they still roam the lands spreading their ideas and faith through fire and sword, whether bringing the light to heathens or purging non-human filth from the lands.

Thanks!

Garanhir: I hope to continue a good barbarous theme thoughout the army.  I need one more ogre and have one in mind and then I'm going to turn my attention to some cavalry, both tradition and non-traditional.

DeafNala:  thanks for the comments.  I'm really trying to figure out how to add some fantastical elements to the human army without going overboard.  My fantasy world is definitely low-fantasy.  A wizard and if I can find a good looking warrior-priest that fits the theme will be about it for the humans.
