Title: New Home for Teddy Bears?
Post by: Conquistador on March 25, 2014, 03:07:01 PM

"... News

March 15, 2014
MBD sells Teddy bears
With effect from 15th March, Eureka Miniatures will no longer be producing Mike Broadbent Designs 28mm Teddy Bear range.

We have thoroughly enjoyed retailing and manufacturing these models and wish the new owner Phil Mcinerney every success with the range..."

Is there a web site presence yet for these?

Gracias,

Glenn

:o I didn't know that… These figures have been on my (quite long) "to buy" list for a while now and I didn't had the chance to purchase some before. I do hope they will be available again…

Well, that's a surprise. I'm ignorant to who Phil McInerney is; the owner of a games company, or some eccentric private collector?

I have a few of the miniatures (cowboys, coverted Woodland Indians and SYW Hessians)

Anyone have any idea what's happened to these?

I found this reply on a TMP thread (not sure of we're allowed to post links here?):

Quote
Hi Guys,
My Teddy Bear range was purchased by an Australian Gentleman residing in the USA. He works for the UN and was deployed to the Middle East. With all that has been going on over there, his return to Australia has been understandably postponed. Last I heard he was in Iraq and was hoping to return sometime in March.
As soon as he is back, and settled in, he is looking at re-launching the entire range and adding to it as well. So it is a matter of when and not if.
When the range is re-released there will be noticed posted on all the major forums.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Cheers
Mike

It's dated March 2015, so I wonder what happened to the guy?

It's not particularly my cup of tea, but it sucks when you can't get hold of the minis you want (Alban Napoleonics  :'()

There is an obituary dated May 22, 2017, from South Australia, for somebody with the same name here:

No idea if it is the same person.

Thanks handle - seen that, and yes it sucks.

Howard, not the same person. The Phil is this guy:
https://www.linkedin.com/in/phil-mcinerney-67907515/?lipi=urn%3Ali%3Apage%3Ad_flagship3_search_srp_people%3BjdjWfSjVTTO8h6bLv8rKGQ%3D%3D&licu=urn%3Ali%3Acontrol%3Ad_flagship3_search_srp_people-search_srp_result

For those not with Linkedin - this Phil is an International Security Adviser and Consultant and is listed as still with UNICEF in Iraq (and the likely reason nothing's happened with them). Just trying to work out why'd you buy a range and then cut them from the market. (I also see there's updates on your Tékumel blog. Don't be afraid to post updates here.  :))

I know this may be a dead-thread now, but in case anyone is still looking....

My daughter saw me painting my miniatures, she decided she needed her own. I searched and searched for Eureka Bears but couldn't find any at a price that I would feel good about a 4 year old playing with. Already having a 3D printer and some amateurish skills, I decided to make my own.  The process is shown at https://compactwargaming.blogspot.com.

I am not set-up to do mass production of these, but could probably handle a few orders at a time.
