Title: Statuesque Fantasy Adventurers Pre-Order!
Post by: Andrew Rae on March 28, 2014, 12:57:41 PM
“Our four adventurers stand on the shore of the Windswept Isle, the quest ahead of them made plain by the midden pile of human bones outside the entrance to the Trowie Howe. Locals had spoken of a great evil having taken over the Howe but also of great treasure, reason enough to brave the dank darkness...”

Statuesque Miniatures (http://www.statuesqueminiatures.co.uk) is pleased to announce a special Pre-Order Deal (http://www.statuesqueminiatures.co.uk/p/8798506/sms-statuesque-fantasy-adventurers-pre-order.html) for the first releases from our new Statuesque Fantasy range of heroic adventurers. Featuring all four adventurers – Oorik the Barbarian, Misanter the Elf, Gomeril the Wizard and Lowri Lowrisson the Dwarf – this deal can be had for only £19, a price not to be repeated when the figures are on general release. There are discounts for multiple purchases too!

Unashamedly 'heroic scale', these figures are available with the super special Retro Rectangular resin bases supplied by Zealot Miniatures for that proper dungeoneering look.

Master castings of the figures arrived back with the mould maker on the 28th of March, with delivery of production castings to Statuesque Miniatures expected within 2-4 weeks. The final retail price for the figures, which will be available individually upon general release, has not been set. However, due to the weight and size of the figures, it is safe to say the retail price will be much higher than this Pre-Order Deal (http://www.statuesqueminiatures.co.uk/p/8798506/sms-statuesque-fantasy-adventurers-pre-order.html). The number of castings for the Pre-Order (http://www.statuesqueminiatures.co.uk/p/8798506/sms-statuesque-fantasy-adventurers-pre-order.html) is limited and the offer will run only until production castings have been delivered or while stocks last.

Order now so you don't miss out! (http://www.statuesqueminiatures.co.uk/p/8798506/sms-statuesque-fantasy-adventurers-pre-order.html)

I was happy to hear first release of fantasy that I almost glossed over the rest of the sentence, more adventurers.  Will you be bringing us baddies in this style too?

Thanks guys! :)

I've put together another one of my moody (read dimly lit!) videos showing the figures in 360-degree-o-rama.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLj6yx26Qlw&feature=youtu.be (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLj6yx26Qlw&feature=youtu.be)

There are also a few comparison pictures to be found HERE (http://www.khorosho-productions.blogspot.co.uk/p/comparison-photos.html) (scoll down for the fantasy figures).

I was happy to hear first release of fantasy that I almost glossed over the rest of the sentence, more adventurers.  Will you be bringing us baddies in this style too?

Yup, grand plans though it will all take time. I've got to juggle fantasy, pulp and scifi. But the next adventurer will be a dwarf berzerker (no mohawk!) and after that I'll branch out into some baddies too. I really want to do an evil sorceress... I'm slowly designing some trows (in my world gobliny trolls) to act as enemy grunts but they're a long way off.

Do you know it's been about 2 or 3 years since I painted a fantasy figure?
(I still have many from before that, obviously,  ;D )

I've been following the development of these, (on here and Frothers) and they have such a "nostalgic", cool feeling to them, that I'm actually quite excited to see them released,  lol

I guess that means I should pre-order them?

(and paint them, obviously. And maybe even some of the other unpainted fantasy figures languishing in the lead pile...)

Nice, the video was great

An evil sorceress with a tunic, skull faced, and heads reaching skyward would fit well against this group of heroes.  ;)

I was intrigued but even at 19 pounds, with international shipping that's too stiff for four figures.  Good luck though!  Shame as I could really use these exact figures, lol.

I've been looking much forward to these and what a nice little touch using Zealot's retro bases :)

Halfling, Andrew - you have to promise making a halfling character to go with them :D

Pre-ordered, these look superb. I'm going to use these as LOTR characters. Yes we need a few Halflings and your take on the undead.  THE CID.

Also pre-ordered. Now I just need to find an adventure/skirmish game to use them in. Or they might become Talisman characters!

Just pre-ordered. These are the first fantasy miniatures I've bought at full price, upon release, for around ten years. They just have the perfect balance between nostalgia and contemporary quality... can't wait for them to arrive now!

That's what I was aiming for so I'm pleased it seems to have come off. :D

I'm going to be using Pulp Alley. It's not fantasy but it definitely is adventure and it's all round awesome and doesn't actually need adapting to different genre. The Brawling rules in PA were what first grabbed me - they give a great swashbuckling feel and let me imagine the to and fro of a sword fight, rather than just rolling to hit/roll to wound. Perfect for fantasy. I need to write up my league list for these four...

@Clam and THE CID: Halflings planned. In fact, one halfling is under way, being worked on alongside bigger figures (since they're wee I don't find them distracting).

I downloaded the quickstart rules. It's probably only in the full ruleset, but how would you handle magic? And could you include undead?

The Perilous Island expansions has lots of 'weird' abilities, some of which are great for representing a wizard or necromancer's powers. There's also 'reanimated' and 'mindless'- perfect for undead. :)

I think Dave suggests an extra ability per level for more differentiation between fantasy races.

Pretty nice, very tempted.

Good use of a "cartoony" style, but not using it as an excuse for poor sculpting or posing. Nice, very alternative, compliment to the rest of your range. They look a treat to paint, even if I'm not sure I could do justice to all those smooth surfaces.

Pretty cool to see an elf who isn't another pretty boy. His expression makes me imagine he barely tolerates his current company :)

Err..... "0 for 4"?

Thanks! It's been fun to do something totally different from the sci-fi and pulp ranges.

Don't worry, from the outset I decided that if some people really didn't like the figures, I wouldn't have done my job properly as I wanted other people to really like them too! I hope I've succeeded on that front. :D

Hi folks,

I thought I'd share this lovely version of Lowri Lowrisson, painted by Andy Wedmore of Belly Miniatures (https://www.facebook.com/Belly.Miniatures). I've commissioned him to paint all four adventurers and I'm very happy with the first results! :)

There are still a small number of Pre-Order sets of the adventurers available (http://www.statuesqueminiatures.co.uk/p/8798506/sms-statuesque-fantasy-adventurers-pre-order.html), but they're running out!

Very well done, the red hairs a bit in the cartoon spectrum for my normal color preferences, but this little guy carries it off well.

Yep, none of them pry any of my money out of the wallet.

That doesn't mean these are anything but superior sculpts, just that none of them appeal to me.

But then I have very definite ideas about what I want my fantasy races to look like.

Sooooo, I'm reading the Warhammer Quest character thread, and thinking about these figures as Hero Quest is 1 of my major uses, but there is another classic inspiration I'd like to incorporate in heroset, so I thought I'd through it out there and hopefully the bait gets a nibble.

The valkyrie.  I'd love to see you do one with the character and style of your lot.

Oh My Lord, Ditto on steroids for that reaction!

Now, a strong (not weightlifter looking,) fur clad for winter outfit and/or appropriate chain/scale/studded armor female warrior using weapons not the size you would expect to see in a giant's two-handed grip in a single hand would be worth seeing and might even get some of my hard earned cash for work/family safe desk/book shelf decoration.
THAT I would spend money on!  Especially if I could get some really good painter to paint up brunette or silver grey hair (thinking of my wife's only non-gnome/non-cleric character in young/older ages mode!)

Glenn

Something tells me getting Andrew Rae to make a female fantasy figure won't be difficult. Have you seen the other figures available from Statuesque Miniatures? These four fantasy dudes may have doubled the number of males available on the whole website.
Title: Re: Statuesque Fantasy Adventurers Pre-Order!

I'm actually in a bit of a quandary about how to do female characters for the range. Since these are inspired by old fantasy miniatures as much as anything else, it would make sense to go down the chain mail bikini route, but at the same time, I'm not sure that's what I want to do. I also don't want to do something more 'current' with a girl in leather trousers and an emo haircut as seen in every piece of fantasy concept art.

I'll probably try to do what's appropriate for the character. So, evil sorceress: less clothing (as seen in everything from He-Man to Oglaf), while, say, a battle nun would be more decently attired.

Anyways, Andy Wedmore is continuing his progress with the Adventurers. Here's Gomeril the Wizard!

Great work by Andy Wedmore again. I love the face!

And here he is with Lowri, ready for adventure.

Not that you should do this but as a thought, look at the idea of a <insert race/species> female then decide how that character would equip herself for combat (planned or spontaneous) then make that figure.

An example that was non-canon was the LOTR movie turning (book) Arwen the Aragorn love interest princess into (movie) Arwen the elven lady willing to draw steel against the ringwraiths.  Whatever you think of that change story-wise I found the outfit to be consistent with my perception of Jackson's image of an ad hoc Elven warrior-princess.

I personally would like to see two witches done, one good one bad, and not X or R rated ones either but your classic pointy hat wearing witch.
maybe the way to go is with "classic" characters.

I'm struggling to find a thief/rogue character, could easily be a female.

This has always my idea of a more plausible Red Sonja type ...

"RRRAAAARRRRR!" It's Oorik the Barbarian, ready to punch you in the face!

I'm loving seeing what Andy makes of these figures. I think he's got the perfect balance between bright, 'boxed game' paintjobs and a bit of modern grittiness. Couldn't be happier.

Now just the elf to go!  :D

That's a really great paint job. I think the barbarian is the weakest figure in the bunch, but this guy looks fantastic. Can't wait to see the elf.

Here's Misanter the Elf - here to look down on you with disdain and to put an arrow in your eye!

I love the subtle five o'clock shadow Andy has given him. He's an elf, but he ain't a pretty boy elf.

And here they are all as a group, ready to enter the dungeon:

I can't wait to see these in person and I'm planning to make a wee display set-up for photography. Something with a dungeon tile and some doors...

I should be receiving production castings soon, after which I'll send out the pre-orders and get the figures on general release.

I think the dwarf is similar in style to the old Fantasy Warriors dwarves - which is a good thing in my book.

Not too keen on the barbarian's face, but, heck, it's overall a nice set.

I don't think even his mother could be too keen on his face - he be ugly! :D

The barbarian has a very characterful face, beat up and moulded by his lifestyle. He's a bit like a rugby player.  ;)

Mine arrived yesterday, got to say they are the finest figures I've ever had, the parts fit really well, the castings are clean, can't wait to paint them, I hope you do some more dwarves as he's my favourite of the bunch, they fit in nice with gw figures too

Thanks for the comments, folks, and I'm glad the pre-orders are arriving safely. :)

Next up will indeed be another dwarf- a berzerker this time. The dwarfs are probably the figures I enjoy the most to work on (perhaps it's because they have the biggest noses?) so eventually I'd like to do enough to have a fully dwarf warband.

Mine arrived yesterday.

They are great figures, as others have said.  They are also some of the cleanest, crispest castings I have ever seen!

Got mine too, they arrived last week but only picked them up from the post office today. They are fantastic. I am really looking forward to going to town on the paint jobs. Well done, more like these please, and maybe you could drop a few hints about any adversaries you might have in mind?

Slight threadomancy, cos I didn't want to start a new thread for this - but here's my first painted Statuesque adventurer  :)

Fantastic model to paint - hardly any mould lines at all, very crisp detail. He'll be replacing my Warhammer Quest Elf for upcoming adventures.

Best pic I could get with the camera phone - will take some proper pics at some point. I'm actually starting a major dungeoneering project, so I think an project log may be in order when I've made a bit more headway.

I ordered the four adventurers a few weeks ago and they arrived very quickly and in good condition.  Lovely little figures.  Very characterful.  I hope to see more in this line soon.
