Wow - Mike, that is a great scene. Your rocky outcrop has served you well there :-*
Just a slight shame the figures' bases are so darn chunky. They do stand out rather. But the overall effect is still excellent. Well done.
Frank - lovely painting (of course).
And you even got... yourself in the picture? :)
-
That's Frank? He could be 3P0's identical twin brother, if robots had twin brothers.
-
Stunning both!
-
Stunning entries guys and an incredibly difficult choice!
-
Chess game is very creative and well painted. I have never seen it done before. The "warpath" has beautiful ground work but the thick figure bases is detracting in a competition (but good for wargame).
-
excuse me my ignorance, but are those actual starwars minis based on the chess-game?
-
Ha, ha...thanks! I'm sitting here in the lobby of my hotel in Cyprus -- just got here and unpacked -- enjoying a beer, and thought I'd check in on LPL. My reaction was, "Frank? Frank! I'm doomed!!!" Pleasantly surprised to have so many votes...anything above 10% I consider a victory... lol lol lol
The thick bases are what I game with for 28mm skirmish. I wasn't going to do anything different just for the competition...these are gaming pieces. That said, I always push myself that much harder when it is an entry for LPL. I try to go the extra level of detail, so thanks for all the kind comments.
Frank...love the Star Wars chess. My recommendation? Let the Wookie win...

Great rocky outcrop and that Star Wars chess is superb! 8) 8)

Frank, at first I thought that was a television in the background, but it appears that you have a stand up C-3PO and a friend that will pose for you... lol. Eccentricity at its best...
Great painting and setup Mike, very cool. I agree with Captain on the bases to some extent, I love everything about your scene- textures, colors, painting.
-
bases are a rule requirement so I don't even take them into consideration unless they are super elaborate or not there at all
-
Both excellent entries here! That scenery composition is excellent Mike, it really brings the theme and concept together!
Frank, and extremely well executed and original concept.
Great job both!

Thank you for your kind comments! :)
Yes, I'm actually in the background and no, not the man with the golden face ;)
The Holochess miniatures are made by Wizard hey Coast (out of production) and you can actually conduct a game with the provided values for these figures. There are also some rules online: http://dhost.info/rissa/Holochess/
Hi Mike, your terrain and your miniatures are just beautiful and the FIW is one of my favorite topics. Well done!

Hard to decide. Two briliant painters in direct competition.
After one Day the Bases made my decision...
-
Love the Holochess Frank, I have a couple of those same WoC models and have often mused about doing a similar idea. Great execution! 8) Plus, its Star Wars :)
-
Tough decision, love the Holochess, well done,
The French and Indian war stuff is very well done as well with a great subtle paint job that is beautiful with out that overpowering "look at me I'm a painted figure" look.
