I'm setting up for a skirmish game set in Moorcock's Young Kingdoms. The first batch of figures up are some Melnibonean guards. I used Reaper Vale Elves. The bases still need their grassyness but I tend to hold a lawn party once I've gotten everything painted.

Hopefully I can keep this rolling. Pan Tangians up next.

this is very cool stuff
stop dragging me back to my elves collection ;)
what are You going to use for the Pan-Tangians?
-
Very nice!
-
I need a handful of Elves...may have to pick up some of these, quite nice. Well done.
-
That is a clever way of using the Pointy Eared Ones...the attitudes as well as the minis match the Melniboneans. The paint jobs are TERRIFIC & I'm sure the bases will look fine when you get to them. WELL DONE!

Dale Men, for the rank and file. Still working on a Tiger Warrior.
Thanks for all the inspiring commentary everyone.
-
Interesting idea.
-
I know it's the sculpts and not you, but why are they all looking down like that? ???
-
Nice! I like them a lot :-*
-

Werner Klock does that a lot.
-
True!
I really like the colour scheme you chose, by the way.
-
Some rank and file troops for the Pan Tangians. I'm working on a Wizard, Warrior Priest and Tiger warrior team as well.
I'm not fond of plastic figures for the most part. These Dale Warriors were attractive for this project simply because of their non historical look.
The Guard Captain is a minor Warrior Priest and will eventually have a small Fire Elemental companion.

Archers

Swords and spears.

and a little teaser of what's to come.

This looks very interesting. Do i see gorilla's with wings? Anyway, love the paintscheme.
-
Great project, looks good! It's always nice to see some Moorcock. (Oh... Don't read that sentence out loud...)
Those Dale men look a lot better now they're no longer leashed to GW's paintscheme. Nice choice for Elric too.
-
Am I correct that the unpainted elf is to be Elric himself?
-
Am I correct that the unpainted elf is to be Elric himself?
That is the plan. I have another, Hasslefree mini I will be using as a more fully armored Elric as well.
-
The new additions are WONDERFULLY imaginative & BEAUTIFULLY painted & based. Elric is going to be a STUNNING piece once complete...he's pretty impressive right now. VERY WELL DONE!
-
Very nice. :) Looking forward to see the daubs on Elric.

Ceril? Very appropriate. :D
-
That's the one. The Elric player can only field him if he has played the "Tanglebones is my Homeboy" card
-
Great project, I look forward to seeing it unfold. Interesting use of GW plastics for the Pan Tang chaps. I have a bundle of the old GW range somewhere which I liked because of their sea-themed armour (must wheel them out and get them daubed). Any thoughts for an Arioch figure? The old Grenadier Earth Elemental would be good for Grome.
-
I have a Reaper Grave Horror, which could come into play as Grome or an elemental. I've got some ideas for Arioch but nothing solid yet. He just needs to be so, very pretty.
-
Why are the Pan Tangians wearing tin foil hats?
-
If you don't know they must be working.
-
Nice choice of colouring on the elves.
-
Nice project so far, and good choice of minis.
Though I don't like the Klocke sculpts that much...but still nice :)
What rules will you use?
-
For the Convention game in May I'll most likely be using those excellent CROM! rules.
-
Very pretty
-
Worked on the Clakars. While waiting for the magic sculpt to set up on the flight bases I painted the Elric figure.
I think I'm going to put a gloss on the sword blade once the figure is sealed.
-
Looking great, I really dig the sword blade.

Most excellent. The colours work very well together.
-
woe very nice work, love them.
-
You've done a SPLENDID job bringing Elric to life. The miniature & color scheme perfectly suit the subject; AND the brushwork is OUTSTANDING. VERY WELL DONE!
-
The green cloak looks great. I wish I had that model too.
-
Thanks for all the great support and feedback.
Next up some of the fearsome flying apes known as Clakars.

Made from Pulp Figures Gorillas and wings from Tyranid gargoyles.
Thanks for looking.
-
The Flying Primates look COOL...heavy shock troops for the Wicked Witch of the West. The conversion work, painting, & bases are TERRIFIC. GREAT WORK!
-
I"m not familiar with the source material - but there's some nice work in this thread.
-
Great new additions, the Clakars are great, and Elric as well :-*
Crom will be good rules to use.
Was thinking myself to use Pulp Alley for something similar.
Keep em coming
-
Very inspiring stuff. I'm verging on a Moorcock thing myself (that sounded better in my head).
-
Von Lucky,
I"m not familiar with the source material - but there's some nice work in this thread.
Usually Skrapwelders source material is found somewhere in the vast recess of imagination that lies between his right and left ears.
-
those Clakars are GREAT!!! :o :o :o
-
Looked it up, it's more Moorcock. I'm surpirsed there hasn't been anything recently from him that's been converted into film/television.
I am basing this on the awesome projects on LAF, which of course are a world away from Hollywood execs and their hookers and blow.
Or is it?
-
And if you:re looking for a good new comic-adaption check this out:
http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=51177
Have the german version and it's great.
Here a quote from Moorcock himself regarding the comic:
“The best graphic adaptation of the story,” writes Moorcock, “has to be the current one by Julien Blondel and his team. This is perhaps the first graphic version of Elric fully to capture the sense of utter decadence I tried to convey in the books.”
-
Thanks Comsquare that is definitely something to look forward to.
-
Young Kingdoms is a great setting for gaming. I'm looking forward to seeing more of this project. ;)
-
there is an elric movie in the works.
Still? Thats been talked about forever now.
-
That is very nice work on the Elric figure! Was it based on a Mordheim Elf? Which figure did the sword come from?
-
Thanks very much. The figure is Aenur from Mordheim. The sword is a resin sword from Hasslefree miniatures.
-
Nice work going on there :)

Been a while since I posted an update. I finished some major players over the weekend.

Lords of the Dharzi - Converted from some Rackham figures. The Lady is a Gamezone miniature I believe
Obviously these fine folks can't hunt alone so I'm currently working on some hounds to go with them.
In addition to these I've done a few heroes from other tales that may or may not end up in the game depending upon how the spheres collide.
Conan - Hasslefree
(http://rotanddrivel.com/YK/fgm.jpg)
and last but not least, Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser. These were a fun pair of conversions. Fafhrd is a Reaper barbarian and the Mouser is a Dark Sword Ranger.
Thanks for looking.

GREAT LOOKING STUFF! I love the Rackham Babe! You have a nicely diverse range of minis that all work well together & share the common trait of being BEAUTIFULLY painted. VERY WELL DONE!
-
Nice work on some excellent choices of minis for those characters.
Rakhir is my personal favourite.
:-* 8) :-*

Thanks guys. Here's a teaser wip of the Dharzi Hunting dogs.

Great job with your casting call! That's some sweet metal you did on the armor.
Keep 'em coming!

Those are NASTY looking puppies! The Green Stuff work looks EXCELLENT...a bit larger photo would confirm that statement I'm sure. Enjoy the painting et al!
-
Nice. :D Excellent mini choices IMO, finished off well.

Thanks,

Hooray for the Earth-Pig born! The great thing about the Aggressive Aardvark Advancing With Sword is that the model hasn't dated a bit after all these years: still looks good alongside the North Star whipper-snappers.

Elric at the End of Time
I ran a convention game incorporating characters and elements fro the Elric stories using Matakishi's Crom rules.
During the time of Elric, before the fall of Immyr when he wandered the Young Kingdoms seeking knowledge, an ancient evil arises in the form of the undead Lords of the Dharzi. Long ago the Dharzi were imprisoned beneath the earth by King Grome, Lord of the Earth. The imprisoned Dharzi discover a way to turn the tables on their jailor and imprison him, leaving them to rise again and threaten the relative peace of the Young Kingdoms. Hearing of Grome's imprisonment Elric sets out on a quest to find a magical gem of great power called the Heart of Arioch. The gem has the power to release Grome from his prison, allowing him to put the Dharzi back where they belong.
The gem is not accessible in this version of the multi verse and Elric attempts to travel to a dimension where the gem reside. Boarding a magical vessel called the Ship that sails the seas of Fate Elric works a great spell to alter the course of the ship and allow him to travel back in time. Something goes wrong and the ship is cast ashore on a savage coast in the Young Kingdoms. However, being an inter dimensional vessel, existing in many planes at the same time the spell caused several version of the ship to crash in this current part of the Young Kingdoms. On each of these ships was a passenger of great renown in his own world. Conan and his companion Belit, Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser, and a strange creature many took for a demon that called himself Cerebus, the Aardvark. His fetching companion Red Sophia more than made up any strangeness on the part of the strangely mono chromatic warrior. None of them were too happy to find themselves washed ashore in a strange land in a reality not even their own. They were even less happy when they found that the only way home was to assist Elric on his quest to find a way back in time to retrieve the Heart of Arioch.
The story played out over four games. The first chapter has several of the heroes fighting their way into a strange town to rescue several compatriots that were captured by a patrol of Pan Tangian soldiers that are part of a scouting expedition for a larger invading army. Elric, Dyvim Tvar, Conan, Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser set out to rescue the others.

A Pan Tangian patrol moves out to engage the Heroes.
Elric makes quick work of several guards and moves towards the gate.
Game 2: Inside the town:
Once inside the town Rackhir, the Red Archer arrives to lend a hand.
Several guards and one of Theleb K'arrna's demons is encountered in the town. The heroes make quick work of them.
With the town cleared the prisoners are released. Cerebus, Red Sophia, Conan's companion Belit and Elric's old friend Moonglum join the party.
Game 3: The Ship that sails on Land and Sea.
Elric plans to summon one of the Elemental Lords to carry he and his companions back in time to a place where the Heart of Arioch resides. A vessel is needed to make the trip and what better ship than a magical one. The Ship that sails on Land and Sea rests near the town, landlocked by the imprisonment of Grome. Elric must get everyone on the ship and summon N'n'n'n'rr'c'c the Lord of Insects to carry the ship back in time. Hot on their heels are Theleb K'aarna and Gaynor the damned, both now working to aid the Dharzi and kill Elric.
Faster than he looks Cerebus makes it to the ship in one turn. There must be some loot to be gained.
Once aboard the party is attacked by Clakars. The vicious flying apes make it hard for Elric to complete the summons but the party manages to kill or drive off the as well as Theleb and Gaynor. Elric summons the Insect lord and the boat is whisked back in time.
Game 4: The Heart of Arioch and the Insect God's Temple.
Several views of the Insect God's Temple. The excellent jungle shrubbery is courtesy of Alfrik. Great stuff.
Elric, cast back in time, now carries the sword of Aubec of Malador and wears his Imperial armor. He will have to get by without the demon blade Stormbringer for a while. Unbeknownst to them, Theleb and Gaynor have managed to tag along and are even now making a quiet approach from the opposite side of the temple.
Gaynor arouses the Guardian of the Temple. A hideous, gigantic spider thing scuttles out of the eye socket of the ancient skull and attacks the party. Moving from one person to the next its lightening attacks take a toll on the party several.
Elric rushes into the temple and secures the Heart of Arioch.
Theleb K'arrana attempts to summon a fire elemental to fight both the Guardian and the heroes.
The summoning succeeds.
After imbibing several caustic but invigorating potions he had found along the way, the Grey Mouser leaps onto the Guardian, driving his sword and dagger deep into the beast's thorax.
The gambit pays off and the Mouser collapses, exhausted and drained, onto the body of the Guardian,
(http://rotanddrivel.com/YK/egG.jpg)
In his haste Theleb forgot he would need reserves to control his summoning. His end was not pretty.
With the Heart of Arioch secure the heroes were able to go forawrd in time and release Grome, who was tehn able to put all the naughty Dharzi back in their prison.
I had initially planned a 5th game to encompass the battle against the Dharzi but time did not allow. The local group has expressed an interest in playing the game out up here so I may have more pictures of that final chapter.
Thanks for looking and thanks for all the great encouragement and feedback you've given me with this project.

Fantastic!
-
Brilliant. Sounds fun and epic.
-
Very evocative.
-
Very cool all around!
I am always amazed by your creativity and conversion skills!
It looked like a an amazing game!
-
Excellent stuff. "Sailor on the seas of fate" was the first Elric novel I read, as well as one of my earliest fantasy novels.
This game is a great way to bring all the great heroes together. Love it.
-
Brilliant!

You make me want to re-read some Moorcock madness.
:D

That is a SPLENDID rather EXOTIC looking game! GREAT STUFF!
