Title: THE THING
Post by: milostnik on 05 April 2014, 04:45:48 PM
Hey guys.

I keep thinking about how cool it would be if a company made miniatures based on The Thing movie from the 1982 movie. So i've have a short rummage and could find some snow troops but was looking for ones with some more character.

I couldn't find anything that looks like the movie THING so thought I'd ask for suggestions of ideas. Heres some stills from the movie.

I have similar civilians in my SSS range (about 40)

I started a Thing board a while ago. The best monster I could find was a Monsterpokalypse (sp?) big 'Thulu figure...he comes with four tentacles as well for the 'busting through the ice' action that you want! Also made some dogs/guys with tentacles sprouting from various places...not perfect but good enough for me.

Pulp Figures and Copplestone also have some good arctic adventurers but I love the look of SI's SSS civilians here.  They have a great look and their kit matches the 1982 movie look better than most arctic figures out there.

This is also another great the thing thread Thib-0's things (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=40271.0) which is where I got the idea for the dog thing above

I have been working on some cold-weather chaps and chapess recently, which shall be known as the Yeti-Hunters (which will make more sense when I fine tune the Yeti itself.... ::)), which should work pretty well in a 'Thing' enviroment, being non-military types.

They have since been finished off properly (all mistakes and odd bits ironed out*) and should be getting cast up in the next couple of weeks....

*Which reminds me that I should take a more up-to-date piccie.....

EDIT: Picture changed for more recent one.... ::)

Hey Anpu.

Great minis. They are so well made, great job.

What humans do you use for the game you made?

Recreational Conflict has a not-MacReady-ish figure as well, although it's part of a set:
