Hi,
I'm looking for a set of sci fi skirmish rules (5-10 minis per side) that include alien races, robots, vehicles etc anyone have any ideas?

In no particular order;
AE Bounty
Victory Decision - Future Combat
Infinity
Necromunda (Free)
Skank
AR:SE
No Limits
That should get you started. :)

How deep into the future? INEPTT covers aliens and near future.

+1 On No Limits - http://www.wargamesunlimited.net/nolimits/ (http://www.wargamesunlimited.net/nolimits/)

On the pulpier end there's also Fantastic Worlds.

Rezolution. Lots of fun in my opinion.

and you can add Savage World Showdown

Echoing Infinity; one of the best balanced systems I've played, and really tactical.
Can't go wrong with the excellent miniatures either of course. 8)
But should you find them too expensive (and granted; they are not cheap), I've seen rumours here on LAF that someone had adapted the rules to Star Wars, which should prove pretty cheap, if one were to use the prepainted WotC minis...

I'm a big proponent of Pulp Alley. Pulp Alley isn't officially about aliens or sci-fi, but it's so open ended you can use it for exactly that. I just played a Stormtroopers vs Rebels in Mos Eisley battle last night in fact. The traits allow for a ton of customization, the rules are simple enough to be superquick and easy and the missions are all objective based. It's a narrative game, almost an RPG-lite but with the way the rules are written, much of it forms the narrative for you as you go. You can get the quick-start rules for free which is the full rules without the warband creation and only 1 scenario.

What kind of focus? Military or corporate/gang?

Might not be difficult to adapt the In the Emperor's Name rules
