Title: Battle of Loos 1915
Post by: flags_of_war on April 11, 2014, 12:59:45 AM
Guys were the Germans still using the covered Picklehaube by September 1915? I want to a project with the focus on this battle due to the amount of Scots who died but i obviously need Germans to fight as well.

Certainly were but with the spike removed, I believe that the steel helmet was first worn early 1916 in the Verdun sector.

First M16 Helmets came at November 1915. At Januar 1916, 30.000 M16 Helmets
were worn mainly in Somme and Verdun. First time only in the frontlines and were changed with reserve troops.
April 1916 1,5 Million M16 helmets were commissioned from the Heeresleitung.
From 1917 most of the german troops (except Artillerie), worn this helmet

And on the Eastern front, the pickelhaube lasted even longer.
