I usually post my Pulp Alley games under "Future Wars" because of the Sci-Fi setting, but having a game during a Ball at the Governor-General's Mansion seems more at home here.
Certainly a party to remember...

WOW. Whatta spread.

What a totally different approach to the game! Great work - hopefully your daughter enjoyed your unique set up. Where did you get the ballroom figures from?
-
Outstanding! :-* :-* :-*
It is so much fun to see all the cool ideas. ;)

That is brilliant! Clever idea for a game, and a really nice looking table.
-
Looks like a great game, what a fantastic set-up!
-
Outstanding, I must try this out...
-
Wonderful! I must try a game where beautiful women distract men from their missions...
-
I should have RSVP'd!
-
Thanks y'all
Where did you get the ballroom figures from?
Space Ship Crew - Heresy "Inspectors"
Assemblyman Wilterzehn - repainted Kingpin Heroclix
Ballroom Dancers, Gov-Gen and Wife - Eureka 19th Cent Civilians
Princess and friends - Mega Minis, OOP I think
Imperial Sub-Ambassador Sulla Tigh - GW Cadian Character, again OOP I think
Ceremonial Guards - The men are Knuckleduster War of 1812, and the female Hussars are Hinterland
"The Crowd"- Some Heorclix Repaints, Some Star Wars, and a whole bunch of "S" Scale minis I got for $15 for a bag of 100 from Amazon
I should have RSVP'd
The crew of the Helena would certainly agree!
Thanks again,

Maj,
that was an awesome AAR and very evocative of Firefly!
Well done! I look forward to more!

Michi, I thought thats what happens in all your games!

Awesome AAR! The "perilous areas" were funny! lol lol
-
Great idea and execution, looks to have been quite a ball!
Hmmm... I wonder why weren't we LAFers invited?
-
Didn't you see Gary's post? You didn't RSVP.
;)
-
Outstanding.

A really FUN AAR.
Pulp Alley can be played in so many ways, and in our games players imagine all sort of silly explanations as why something happened or how a fortune card acts.
This "no combat" diplomatic incident report was just brilliant!
And the pretty scenery and minis just ADD to the enjoyment factor.
Thanks for sharing.

Don't feel too bad, I wasn't invited either. :?
Keeps the Riff Raff factor down...
magokiron, I agree, PA is incredibly flexible and intuitive.

Very nice scenario, I'm going to have to try this out at some point in some version. One of my gaming buddies is always trying gaming ideas that don't just involve shooting someone, he should appreciate this too!
-
I love the idea of not shooting all the time. I have to look at Pulp Alley. One of the many reasons I like 7TV is the option of not simply shooting but capturing and hostage taking. Is PA a sort of RPG lite?
-
I read through your 'battle' (party) report. Brilliantly done. So refreshing from the normal bloodbath!
And the set and scenary! :o
-
very cool, love the concept and will be bogarting it into my other games. lol lol lol

Not so much - ultimately it's still a skirmish objectives-and-combat game - but it's malleable enough that I think the tools are there to make an "RPG-lite" if you tweak them a bit and add a couple of things.
-
Genius, what a setup. I'm speechless.
-
You bringing this to Enfilade this year?

Unfortunately, Enfilade is a little far from Sector Six.
Is PA a sort of RPG lite?
More of a skirmish game with a moderate amount of campaign tools. But that is still a misnomer, in that it does a great job of relegating combat to a role as a means to an end rather than the main focus. It really is an adventure game as opposed to a skirmish game. IMHO

High praise, Professor W. Thanks.
And thanks to everyone for looking.

Damn, well, it was worth asking, right?
Very well done sir - I am in awe.

Spot-on analysis, Major. I have always referred to Pulp Alley as an adventure/skirmish game.
Our scenarios encourage story-telling by focusing on the various plot points that the characters must capture/complete in a short amount of time.
Although your Combat skills will often be very helpful in securing the area around a plot point, you'll almost always need to use an Action skill to finish the job. This balance between fighting, perils and thinking can really keep players on their toes.
When you create a character and a league you'll want to keep this balance in mind. For example, if I make a character that is purely focused on fighting, then I know they are going to have a harder time with perils and plot points and I'll try to use them appropriately during a scenario.

Thanks!! I searched for this thread earlier this year and could not find it. To my mind this is the best Pulp Alley AAR that I have read and totally reveals the scope of the rules.

Wow.
I cannot wish for a better compliment from my peers than "Best PA AAR" and the fact that it holds that position even after a full year.
Thanks for that, marianas_gamer. Merry Christmas!
-
I dare to say not only best PA AAR, but best wargame AAR ever. Great idea :)

Superb! Instantly reminded me of that.
