> Working for nearly 6 Months on rules, terrain and the painted figures
For all of six months, eh?
Yes, you have entered my long and honorable list of the despisedly competent. Can you feel the hate?
I have for some time desired the figures for my collection, but your Fraktion: Edda is simply smashing. And, Cthulhu... :o

Whattta great pile of beautifully painted lead! Love those MK V dive helmets!

Great stuff Lobo!! I like how you mixed in a bunch of Pulp Figures. I've always thought that many of Murch's figs could stand in for VSF gaming.

I love that mono-wheel and have been resisting for ages as my VSF project has hit a speed bump.
Otherwise I would be all over a couple of those like a shot.

Sorry, my bad english. Hope I understood. You mean who is the manufactor?
http://www.olleysarmies.co.uk/ (http://www.olleysarmies.co.uk/)
I'm a quarter English, and bad, and must say yours is fine. However, he was just teasing about the 'scrunts'. Not to everyone's taste, mind you.
I've mentioned elsewhere dreaming of a whole campaign with some stunted red coats gifted to me, running amuck in the wilds of eastern Europe, and RAFM Death in the Dark Prussians striving to thwart their evil designs. A secret war, with secret players...
I've come to wish for Messer Olley's folk included, in general, and would love so, your Edda in particular.
Quite like all your pieces, but that's why *I* singled them out! ;)
I will admit to being a bit scandalized by one member of Nemo's crew, though. And that, in spite of my German half being ALL bad! :D
Doug

Superb work :-* Never really been into Victorian sci-fi but these have stoked my boiler a bit 8)
I agree, these are inspiring.

What's the origin of those figures? They don't seem to be an official IHMN boxed set, but I don't recognize even one of them. Are they North Star?

As FramFramson posted, they are from Westwind Miniatures

I'd say I hate you, but that's not true. I only envy your speed and skill. I shall go cry now. Well done. :P

No, no, though I've never felt competent to judge contests, I really think his work is worth the passion.

Nice!
-
Lovely thread and a beautiful collection of figures :-*
-
Fantastic stuff here Sir!!!
-
First, made no comment on the fungi; they were such a sharp turn, my mind had trouble keeping up. Brilliant work, but still getting head around.
Now, the last group engendered such a case of deja vu, I actually scanned a few pages back in this thread. Did you show these somewhere else? Is there someone else doing very similar work? Am I so far round the bend that...
Okay, that's a given.
Now, what did I leave out?
Right. Don't stop.
Doug
-
Thanks for all the nice comments
@ Doug
I only show my figures here, on my blog and on an german forum, nowhere else.
And I don't know of anyone did very similary things like the fungi wood, the market stands, similary paint Jobs or other things. But it think that this is possible.
I post all my paintjobs one or two days after I finished them.

AH!
Those look great! :-*
Pretty big project though, you need to get hot! ;)

Those mechanoids are great, where did they come from?
cheers
James

The one with the buzz saw is from Wyrd Miniatures, the flying ones and the humanoid ones are from Westwind's EOTD range I don't know the others.

Sorry, lobo, I specifically meant that last brace of four, the 'More figures.' Everything else is new, or newly done, to me; fresh, even occasionally disturbingly so. Those mushrooms... ;)
It's just the feeling of having seen those particular four was overwhelming.
Now the latest, I really need to show my daughter, and Sir Randall's son. Arachnophobia, don't you know. :D
Doug
-
Looking forwards to some AAR's with these beauties!
-
The one with the buzz saw is from Wyrd Miniatures, the flying ones and the humanoid ones are from Westwind's EOTD range I don't know the others.
Looking back, it's the one with the cowcatcher chin and red spider eyes that REALLY has me wondering!
Doug
-
The left one with the big base is from Mirliton.it,
as kidterminal saif the on with the buzz saw is from Wyrd,
the 3 little ones are from Wyrd too.
The one with the Driver and the cowcatcher comes from Wildwest Exodus,
the rest from Westwind

The mechanoids look delightfully VSF - like something some eccentric Victorian entomologist with a knack for technology would have conceived of !

The mechanoids are great. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do to the Ottomans :)
-
A couple of them appear to be lounging outside the barracks, or a really dull, out of the way border post.
Given the way those go in games, the only thing missing is their 'red shirts...' lol
Smashing! Now, Sir Randall's beloved-by-me Colonel Pasha would be thrilled by the lads on other flank. Especially the one for applying some 'quiet persuasion'.
From where did they come?
Thanks, as always!
Doug

Very cool - excellent work.
Are you leaving one side open for access during games? And are you adding some windows?
-
Very cool - excellent work.
Are you leaving one side open for access during games? And are you adding some windows?
AND, always useful as an emergency doll house should a wee lass need entertaining! :D
Actually, if I've not gone wildly awry, as I oft do, I believe all the 'open' sides are actually waiting roofing.
Crazy wicked, three D puzzle you've got the Lobo. And, lest I forget, MORE, MORE, MORE!
Doug
-
Great stuff!
:-* :-*
I like this approach to building and have used it myself in the past.
It really does allow you to get as much access to detail as possible.
Very interesting layout for that building.
Wanting to see more.

Completely missed this thread until now, wonderful painted teams and I'm really liking the look of the building so far, it should be spectacular when you're finished!

Wonderful - I am envious of your skills o_o

Wow, i just surfed the 10 pages of this thread right now, i'm really impressed! I envy your speed and your choices!
the house is a promising start, i'm curious to see it completed! ^^

Very clever, the ways the beams 'lock' it together.
8) 8)
Not sure I could get away with that with our group.
'Someone' would be bound to knock the lot over..... ::)
-
Thanks
Very clever, the ways the beams 'lock' it together.
I think that this is easy and simple to fit the parts together so that they stay in place
-
The second house looks great - I really like the way it grows in floor area as it gets taller!
Are you going to base these to give them some added stability - as the ground floor must be very light as it is blue foam (though as the whole thing is foam board, I suspect that the whole building is very light).
Are you building a whole town?
-
Thanks Fred
The gypsum Windows and doors, and the wooden parts makes the buildings heavier.
So there is no base necessary.
But I think about it, cause I like to add some columns under the walkways.
I plan to do 4 of these bigger houses and then same smaller one, so up to 8-10 houses.
-
Splendid! How will you texture the external surface?
Also, for your next builds, i might humbly suggest you to take a look at my foamcore tutorial, to avoid the corners with the exposed foam.
Besides, using the "phantom joint" will grant a faster gluing and more solidity. I found that in general saves definitely more time that it takes.

Great design and build.

Have you considered adding some texture to the larger flat areas?
I think that would add to the overall effect and allow you to create a great finish with a little drybrushing.
:)

Great idea.
Smashing stuff though, can't wait to see the whole set up ;D
-
Have you considered adding some texture to the larger flat areas?
Thought about it, but I decided against doing it
-
We love, of course, but you might look into some texture paint for the future. You can color it to your ideal, and it's not a lot more work, though a bit more technique.
Nothing I'D try, mind you. :D
The 'awesome' keeps coming on... :-*
Doug
-
Personally I dont think it needs texturing.
Perhaps a few patches where the underlying brick work is showing through cracks but nothing major...
-
Love the color choices for the buildings this will make a great town.
-
So shiny :-* I'm really jealous of them :) Always wanted to build something like that and never managed to get round to :(
-
Very nice work.
Prof - maybe this is what your terrain choice can be for VUK?
-
Prof - maybe this is what your terrain choice can be for VUK?
Yes, for the moment I am going to use my Witchtown stuff for this (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=32806.0) that looks pretty much like the stuff lobo did, although by far not that spectacular but I rather would prefer to have something industrial in the 1920-30's. Though that's not the the theme of that topic, sorry lobo! :)
-
Thanks,
and no Problems Prof.Witchheimer
I want to Show some pics of an unfinished city-Terrain I build in the first months of 2014,

I was a bit afraid you'd be upset at him 'letting the cat out of the bag.' I know you will have great enjoyment from unveiling, but, aside from the lesser you wanting the surprise all your own, now you'll have to deal with our constant 'are they done yet?' :D
What can I say? REALLY eager to see you add your own magic!
Have I mentioned this whole thread is mouth-dropping good?

I love the brickwork carving and the extra levels created with the wooden platforms.

Awesome terrain! I love how you've made these houses with lots of blocks and levels, it gives you some interesting gaming options and gives a wierd/fantastic look to the table.
I've tried my hand at two houses up till now, doors and windows were a bit of a pain as I tried to hand craft them. These resin pieces you used look really nice.

Last pics for 2014 (I promise)

I am thinking of stealing the beaten copper roof idea for some of my buildings.
It does look rather good.
8) :D
-
@ Mason
Some are painted "beaten cooper" and some "brazzen brass" and then inked with armypainter soft or strong tone
-
All I can say is that is stunning! I would love to play on that board
-
They look awesome as a set.
Now for a base board?
-
Thanks
@ Fred
First I had to do some work on some Old West Terrain.
Then the painting on the 4th building.
After that I had plans to build the "Church of Steam" - the 5th building for this table. :D
And then ... (I have so many figures I like to paint o_o)
Meanwhile I sold some Old West buildings to Dr.Moebius from this forum and promised to add some missing roofs to the buildings.
First the stable:
I add an removable Roof to Play inside, a ladder to reach the upper area and doors
(http://picload.org/image/ccircdc/stall_01.jpg)
-
:D
I´m really looking forward to get my hands on these buildings. Hope that they will give a boost to all the Wild West miniatures that I have in my boxes.
Cheers mate!
Dr. Moebius
-
Hope to see them painted sometime :-)
Finished the stable:
Add some Frames for the doors and Windows
(http://picload.org/image/ccprapo/stall_04.jpg)
The store:
Pic of the unfinished buidling. Promised to add the Roof.
Add the removable roof, the porch, some planks, 2 doors, ... (Is porch the right word?)
So the store is finished

Bank/Hotel

After the others, it's nice to see you can do handsome 'sensible' work, as well... Laugh
Doug
It's difficult, but I try to do my best ;D

Porch isn't wrong. Veranda might be better.

Porch isn't wrong. Veranda might be better.
Thanks Fred. So it's the same word (Veranda) as in german language
-
Thanks Fred. So it's the same word (Veranda) as in german language
Apparently from Portuguese, so borrowed by both languages. Okay, borrowed by German. English is unashamed to steal from anybody. lol
Including each other; I've almost come to regularly use 'spanner' and 'bonnet' when speaking of automobiles. I'm still a bit shy, when referring to visiting a female, about saying 'I'll knock you up...' :o
Doug

Finished the work on the unfinished buildings.

Will pack them today an set them next week to Dr.Moebius.
There is still some work to do. He can add additional items, had to do the paintings and the he can mount the doors
with some small leather stripes that they are functional, ... .
Nevertheless I think he get a good start for a nice Old West Town.

May I ask how you got that Bronze effect on helmets?
Very simple.
Painted with Tin Bitz (Citadel Colour) and washed with Armypainter Quickshade Strong Tone (or maybe Soft Tone).
-
Your village is very Grimm's Fairy Tales something I like alot but I would have never put together with Victorian and Steampunk miniatures. You Sir with your all inclusive style have achieved an incredible Castle Falkenstien feel. I applaud you.

Where are the models from?

Great stuff man the blue is so pure. I do love the walker & pilot.

Where is that pilot from? I must have him!
-
Now you'll need Nemo's crew.
LOL already posted about 6 pages back. :-)

Interesting minis (well ... in the case of the steam dwarf titan: maxis). I like him a lot and he's huge. The WIP walker is cool too. The gyrocopter and jetbikes feel a bit too modern compared to the rest but I'm looking forward to seeing how they blend in once you've finished them.

Quite agree, though I will single out that 'Dwarf Knight' for high praise, indeed! Feels so right!

I've said similar before about others, and ate my words whole. You are indeed wise to hold judgement. ;)

Lobo, old chap, I've not been paying close enough attention.
Those paint jobs on the buildings ARE smashing; well worth the wait! Just hope you feel well worth the effort. ;D

I've split the KS with a friend, and he got the beast and kin. I live in no small dread of when they will 'leap out of the shadows...'
Of course, it's paint work like yours that MIGHT delay the inevitable. He'd probably have tart his up, no matter how well he did it. lol
