Title: Traveller alien mercenaries
Post by: gary42 on May 01, 2014, 07:27:59 AM
I have these but there's very little on the net about them.  Are they rare?  I panted them forever ago.  Anybody use them?  Want them?  May trade if anyone's interested...

Original Box sets are few and far between on Fleabay.uk, and go for some silly money sometimes.

Which is odd as RAFM still produce them...

Not sure if it's the full range from the 80s, but there's enough there to keep you busy!

The OP's figures appear to be from the old Grenadier 25mm range. These are closer to true 25mm and, the humans anyway, appear small against modern 28mm ranges.

The figures Alien Dave has identified as being from RAFM are actually 15mm - originally released by both Citadel Miniatures in the UK and RAFM in the US. RAFM still produces these figures (Citadel got eaten by Games Workshop), and they're still as good as a lot of current 15mm figures.

I have a few figures from this alien set (and have recently painted up the Virushi for use with my 15mm figures) but have no idea as to the current value. There are people who collect these figures so you might want to consider posting on either the G+ or Facebook Traveller groups if you'd like to shift them.

Ah, yes, my mistake!  But then, surely everyone does Traveller in oldskool 15mm???  How else would you fit them on the deck plans...  :D

Interesting.  They're much bigger than 15mm.  They do seem more like true 25.

Yes those are 25mm, from Grenadier. They go for an arm and a leg on Evilbay in the U.S. as well. The figures that RAFM makes are 15mm, from the citadel line which had much nicer detail than the Martian Metals line. Which of course are just as expensive on Evilbay.....

And to rub salt into the wound that was my (wrong) answer to the OP, I've actually got a set from this range gathering dust in the loft!  Some type of Mid-Tech troopers if I recall.  Nice minis, well proportioned, but they look a bit small compared to today's offerings.

Yep.  True 25's.  They are very nicely detailed minis.  Size-wise they actually look pretty good beside modern 28's.  They are aliens and who's to say a walking dog isn't a bit shorter than a human:)

I have them all, Aliens and Spacefarers, and the humans are a little out of proportion, suffer from large head syndrome. Closer to the Star Lords figures, that where from Hobby Products. Their not true 25mm like the Star Wars on the end.

That's a great comparison!  I have a couple of space suited humans and they are definitely a bit teeny!

Thanks!
