Oathsworn Miniatures have a new project starting on Wednesday, for a sculpt of Odin on Sleipnir. Pics and details in a day or two, but here's a teaser pic of the mini:

This would be very nice for Ogam!

This is a kickstarter for one miniature? That's how the post reads at least.

That's what I'll be using mine for! ;)

Yep, but he's a big model - takes up a whole mould, and will be about 250 grams of metal I reckon. And the KS is only going to be 10 days... it's just a trial run to see if there is any interest in taking the line further, really.
-
This certainly has potential.
But I am a bit torn.
I would like to have the whole pantheon of Norse gods. I actually have some ideas already...
However I am not sure what to do with "just" Odin.
-
How big is he?

Especially Sleipnir's 'mother'. :D

I'm hoping to sculpt them all -Odin's just the test piece really; if people like him, I'll do more.
How big is he?
He's a pretty big model - Odin himself if he was a foot model, he'd be 40mm tall. I made him bigger to fit in with the North Star and Bronze Ago gods, which are both the same sort of size.
Especially Sleipnir's 'mother'. :D
Everybody loves Loki... well, horses do! Although I guess those dwarves weren't too happy with him. :-X

The project has just gone live, so here's the link, and a pic. More details on size, bigger pics etc on the KS page.

Pledged! ;D
It looks fabulous and will work well with my older Jotunheim fantasy norse project where different sizes don't matter. :)

Cheers WK!
And I love that blog - I hadn't seen it before - the skin colour works really well. Love the Bearstruck unit!
-
He looks great. I've pledged and hope it does very well indeed in the hope you sculpt the rest of the Norse gods.
-
Pledged, for use in OGaM as well
Regards
Jim

Very nice, especially Sleipnir, not easy to get an 8-legged horse right but he's a beauty.
-
Thanks everyone! The kind words (and pledges!) are much appreciated.

To be honest, it's already done a lot better than I was expecting! I wasn't sure anyone would be interested at all...
So I'll be starting on more Norse gods now. The obvious ones are Thor and Loki, but I'm really tempted by Hel, and maybe even Freyja on Hildisvíni - an angry sex goddess riding a giant boar has a strange appeal for me... :D
-
Will hopefully be able to pledge for one in a couple of days :-)
Any chance of Odin on foot? And as for other gods, Frey and his antler could make for an interesting piece...
-
I'm planning a version of Odin on foot, but in his Gandalfy-style wanderer mode... i really need to do his wolves as well.
An antler-armed Frey is a great idea! I'll put him on the short-list.
-
Please don't forget Huginn and Muninn :D
-
Very nice, Sleipnir looks fantastic, that couldn't have been easy to work out the legs!
I'm going to be slightly picky though and it's something that would bug me if I bought the model (thinking about it though :)). Odin is missing the wrong eye. Odin gives up his right eye to drink from Mimir's well.
-
... Odin is missing the wrong eye. Odin gives up his right eye to drink from Mimir's well.
Can I ask what you are basing that on? I've been through everything I can find, and there's nothing in the early sources to say which eye it should be at all... It's only when nineteenth century writers start translating / re-writing the sagas that we get any mention of which eye it is. And they don't agree either, some saying right, some saying left.
But if you've got an early reference that sorts it out, I'd love to have it, even if it means I have to do some re-sculpting! :)
-
I shall go check, I've only read a translation though, my Norse is a little rusty ;)
Edit: Well, the two books I pulled off the shelf, the more recent one says right eye, the other (from the 50's) just says 'an eye'. The right eye predates the 19th Century romanticism though as this manuscript illustration is from the 1700's.
Edit 2: Any idea which Saga talks of Odin's eye? I thought it was the Ynglinga but I've just had a look at my translation and I can't find any reference to it at all.

It gets a mention in the Prose Edda, the Ynlinga, and very briefly in the Völuspá, but none of them say which eye.
In terms of art, there's this 10th century sculpt of (allegedly) Odin, with the left eye missing.

As far as I can tell, there's never been any agreement on exactly which eye it should be...

......that is so very, very cool. I've resisted Kickstarters up until now, but I may have to pluck for this one.
Oh - and short list wise, please don't do Freyr! I've already painstakingly crafted my own (http://the-bloggity-blog-blog.blogspot.co.uk/2013/12/my-god-freyr.html), and seeing you do a far better job would be hearbreaking! ;D

I backed and I definitely like the update you sent today with the plan for future pantheon figs.
-
Mr Marx, great job on that Freyr! Who needs a magic sword when you've got an antler! :D
BigB, thanks very much!

That is a great Freyr, sir!
:-*
Now I know exactly why you were asking for an antler some time back.
:D
-
Now that Odin's funded, we've decided to continue with the Norse pantheon and make a model of Freyja and her boar, Hildisvini.
I'll be recording the process in the Kickstarter updates, so if you want to see the ham-fisted way I sculpt minis, take a look (and pledge for Odin while you're there! ;) )

Thank yee. :)
Finding *exactly* the right antler was 80% of the project to be honest.

Freyr would be lonely without his sister....

Part 2 is up - sculpting a boar's head....

Wow, great project! I almost missed this... still a few days, I will see what pennies I can spare. ;)
-
Cheers Timbor!
I've been doing a bit more on the boar sculpt:

The boar's finished... still got pretty much all of Freyja to do though...

Looks like you finished everything but the front-right hoof on the ground. Or am I missing something?
I'm looking forward to the complete Norse pantheon (over time). Then you can start with the Greek/Romans... 8)
-
I think you've inspired me to go get some delicious pork barbeque (though to be fair, feral hogs are inedible...)

No the hoof's done, and there'e a little rock to support it... it's a weird angle on the pic though, so it's very hard to tell!
Greek gods... I'd like to do them, but people keep telling me there are already lots available...still fancy having a go at them though. Romans - definitely!

I've heard that too - but I'll try anything once... I reckon you just need the right sauce! :D

Actually I've been looking hard and wide for a decent hades. Crococile is doing a ok one with their past kickstarter, the first one was terrible. (had a huge axe and all o_o)
So there might well be space for some gods.

Only 4 hours to go on the Odin Kickstarter, so back it if you want it! :D

I jumped in a few days ago and I have to say that the personal 'Thank You' email was a very nice touch.
Much appreciated.

That's Jo's influence, she's the nice one, and believes in being friendly and polite... if it was down to me, I'd just ignore everyone while sitting here grumbling. We're a miniatures company after all, and I'm a traditionalist! :D
-
Stop your grumbling and get on with the rest of them! ;D
