Post by: Jeff965 on May 07, 2014, 12:01:21 PM
Looking for some metal cavalry to go with my Renegade miniatures Celtic infantry, what's the best match? Any suggestions appreciated.

OOh hope they are ok ;D I think the crusader ones should be ok too but may be slightly smaller

Actually I was thinking A&A Celts are made by Mark Sims (Crusader), so they would be as big as Crusader then which is maybe not a bad thing. Here's a comparison pic, Renegade infantry with Crusader cavalry. I think they don't look bad together.

Thanks Prof, the size thing is not the be all and end all for me it's more to do with the style of the figure if you know what I mean. These look great together and I'm hoping the A&A cavalry are of a similar style.
I'm also hoping there are some different poses with the horses. I have 18 Renegade Roman cavalry figures and the horses are the same pose so I'm also looking to get some replacements from a different trader for these.
Any suggestions are most welcome.

You are right I think the celts or some at least by renegade are Roy Eastland, I heistated after posting and having a think about it. Thank the lord your Photos supports me  :D

There is the Tanatus Pict range by him sold by North Star but not seen them in the flesh other than a quick fondle ;D of a mates figures a few years ago :D

Yes, I know what you mean, and I agree on the style. Btw, why not to try some Foundry Gallic cavalry from their Caesarian range, they're in the same scale range and have nice horses. Having them and A&A and maybe Crusader you would have enough of horses to switch some of them againt the Renegade ones.

Following update for my comparison picture, now with the Foundry Gallic Cavalry on the right:

These horses are looking lovely. Could be a nice replace for some light cavalry like miounted archers and such. I may try to get some of them as well.

Great comparison, Rui, thanks! Tanatus horses are slightly bigger but still useful, I may get some soon.

I can see Tanatus and WF going together but I'm not convinced I could put a Renegade cavalryman on either of them. I've heard that Aventine horses are larger but I've not seen them in the flesh so to speak, I know they do sell them without riders though which is a good thing.

Aventine horses actually aren't larger. See the pic, from left to right (Aventine, Foundry, Crusader). This is a horse from Aventine's Republican Romans range. Maybe there are other ranges which I didn't see before with larger horses but from my experiences also the newer horses (EIR and Parthian) aren't larger.

And just to complete the task, Relic now has some nice Gallic cavalry, too. Could be an option if you like. No idea if they work with Renegade&Co, I have none of their figures. Need to order some characters one day.

Thanks Alex, I've ordered some A&A cavalry but they haven't arrived yet. I like the detail on the Relic figures but the poses on the riders is leaving me cold. If the A&A stuff is ok I will get some Crusader cavalry as well seeing as it's the same sculptor.

Well my A&A cavalry arrived, I think I'm going to have to look elsewhere lol. The figure on the left is a Renegade Roman.
