Hinterland shows some skin…
You don’t know how long I’ve been wanting to say that – heh heh. Intended to complement the sailors, I present three packs of native Askari forces, including the command pack, a somewhat varied characters pack, and a unit builder pack. The Askari are led by a junior naval officer who seems to have gone a little native.

I intend to commission an Askari Maxim crew as part of my next order, as well as some more uniformly dressed skirmishers. In other good news, additional greens, including more Trench Raiders, are already on their way across the pond, so there won’t be as big a gap between releases this time. Thanks for your interest.

Oh how lovely!!
These are spectacular!!
How about some other views of that command group?
My Yucatecan adventures seem to have veered recently, towards the Far Mysterious East, does Afrika now beckon?
Oh I hope not...
"Bosun, do swing that compass again, PROPERLY this time..."

Nice. Are they Paul's sculpt too?
-
nice
-
Ordered. This tacks on to another project I've been very slowly working on ;)
-
Always good to see a new Hinterland release, :)
Lovely stuff as always, and good to see more releases planned
-
Very nice. I particularly like the middle group.
-
Nice, nice, nice ... uhhh .. I am in my bunk! lol
-
Thanks for all the positive feedback. With the exception of the mule, which is eBob stuff, it's sculpted by Paul. I'll try to post some additional pics of the command group later in the day.

Oh, Dahomey is the last piece missing in Your Akari collection? ;)
btw, great sculpts by mr Hicks, as usual

Don't even get me thinking about West Africa, you rascal :)
(I admit that I saw these and thought 'Dahomey!!!')
I do need to work on Hinterland for the next 'Army Painter'. I'm getting a shameful unpainted pile of them.

I can't wait to see these painted. I'm working on the characters pack right now, but I have so little time, and I'm the slowest painter in the world. :(

I am looking forward to your interpretation :D
I must admit that my history head and knowledge of german spirit does not combine imperial navy, army, and guard hussarettes with bare chested Askarettes wearing french style sashes, but the idea is askew enough to not feel wrong but be attractive and interesting. And the character types are definitely Dahomey.
But who knows, maybe it will lure @Michi into that domain :D
this is a hell of a range You have put together, @Mancha, I draw my hat!

I admit, I kind of make it up as I go. ;)

Lovely! A great addition to the Hinterland line. :-* :-*

Remarkable.... So the so called "Dahomey uprising" in German Cameroon 1893 is totally unrelated? When Police Askari rebelled against the corrupt german governor? Soldiers who had been previously bought from king Behanzin from Dahomey and freed in exchange for a service contract as police force in the german colony? ;)
Admittedly they were male..... ;)
edit: and I make up my research as I go o_o....
again I draw my hat, because the native Polizeitruppe in Cameroon were first bare chested, and then wore sashes, exactly as Your Askarettes

apologies for me being so ignorant, the Askarettes are totally historical.... and hysterical :D

Er, what I meant by that is I'm not trying to present females in otherwise historically accurate male uniforms. I start with actual uniforms of the time, but sometimes add embellishments. Obvious ones in past releases have been skirts instead of trousers. But in these Askari I figured that native troops would have more room for alterations and decoration. And while my miniatures are obviously intended to be based on German colonial and WWI troops, I've also been trying to design miniatures that are not completely limited to a particular nation/country, although I obviously achieve more success with this in certain lines than others.
-
However, whatever use you wish to put them to is just fine with me. :D
-
my admiration grows with every new release...
what an amazoning range ;D
edit: Yes, I guess if one leaves away the more "Dahomean" types, they could be used even in the pacific, they are very generic

I have NO use for these 'ladies' at all... None I tell you, NONE WHATSOEVER!!
I only bought 'em to fill out a long overdue order for Pulp fellers, Oh, & that mule, right, nothin' else...
Some additional pics of the command group:

Thank you for these detail shots, they made NO difference to my decision to avoid purchasing them.
Wait, I did, didn't I? It was the mule I tell ya, the mule...
My ancient eyes still haven't decided fer shur what species of varmint perches on her shoulder, monkee, macaw, marmoset...
The boots, critter, reloading pose and expression are all simply brilliant
Thank you for these lovelies!

Uber buxom. That's all I have to say. :`
-
Classic Hinterland! :D
-
Oooh!!! I must have these askari! :P
-
But who knows, maybe it will lure @Michi into that domain :D
Michi already circles around Hinterland miniatures like a moth the light or a raven the battle slain.
I haven´t spotted a single one that I would not like to paint.
I just haven´t found a sponsor yet... ;)
These Askarettes are indeed wonderful creations that I would love to include in my African collection (yes, I actually have colonials! Watch LPL thoroughly...). There is a certain dominance of male Askari currently though.
-
Nice sculpts! :-* I can certainly find a use for a unit of these. :)

If your avatar is anything to go by, I would tend to agree with you. ;)

I'm sure I'll be getting the command pack and the character pack. Love the Hinterland ladies.

Oh YEAH!! Mine arrived today!! Ordered Sunday, delivered this morning, <3 days Texas to South Carolina!!
I have got to say these beauties are superb!! Clean, crisp sculpts, full of character, just delightful!!
I WILL get more, the rest of the askaris, and another command pack too.
But that's IT!! A man's gotta now his limitations.
Besides, all my adventures are on foreboding continents with stifling climates. Those hussarettes, uhlans & stoßtruppen would simply wilt!
He wouldn't dare come up with more colonials, would he? Nah, he'd not do that to me, or the world. Would he?
Gotta say the mule is choice, & The Pulp lads are quite spiffy, but the competition is tough!!
Highly recommended, splendid service, outstanding product, fervid imagination!!

Received my batch today as well, they look great.
As usual I'm fretting about how I'm going to organize them, who is going to be NCO, etc.
I need to have them painted before the next release.
-
Nipples!
I love this crackpot Hinterland idea. I have been a good boy and not ordered any as I need another project like a need a hole in the head. This addition is a sore temptation, however.
-
I did a lot of research to make sure those nipples were accurate. And what Hinterland idea isn't crackpot? ;D
-
I've ordered the
nipples, sorry Askari, command, characters and unit builder. I just couldn't resist, they look great!

One step ahead for once old bean, I already have that pack, being a big Tintin fan! ;)
I must admit, I was besotted by bosoms
though!
-
What I'd love to do ( am almost surely will) is taking those 2 'Askari', change their headdress onto a gorillo, and mix them in with my SCW Milicianas. Just to see if anyone notices something 'odd' lol
-
Another awesome release.
-
I get more and more set on fitting some Hinterland stuff into my plans for something.
I already have an idea about, how to use some of the Hussars, but I have to get that particular process going, first... :?
