A few of the guys here are playing Of Gods and Mortals and I'd like to give it a go. I have several collections that could be put into it easily such as Chinese, Aztec and Voodoooo but they need lots of painting and converting to finish them. I do have a Saxon force that I need to finish off anyway though and it has a pretty easy paint job so should be quicker to do (chainmail helps). However I'm not at all knowledgeable about their mythology other than that it's a variant on the Norse one (which I know reasonably well).
It seems a bit of a cop out to just use a Norse list though. Anyone have suggestions for Gods and mythical creatures?

As far as I know, Norse and pre-Christian Saxon myth are very similar – the names change, but the fundamentals remain the same.
Wiki has a useful conversion list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germanic_pantheon
I could be much more help with the Voodoo...

Cheers Smith, that's what I thought.
Okay, better question... anyone have a suggestion as to how to 'Saxonise' the Norse Pantheon? Or should I just use Norse stuff and have done with it?

That would be why I emailed you about it several months ago......... ;)

Perhaps you could do an British-Anglo-Saxon force.
For your legends, you could perhaps use a Saxon legendary figures like Hengist and Horsa? Our you could use Beowulf (he's not Saxon, but his story is an Anglo-Saxon tale).
You could use Woden instead of Odin (although, as far as I know, there is no difference but the name).
You could mix in a Celtic warrior or two if you have them.

Did I reply? Christ, but my memory is awful...

No, didn't get a reply but then you're a busy man.

I don't think there was any material difference other than the names.
I don't know if I'm just imagining things, but I seem to remember that Wayland the Smith was more popular in Saxon society than his Norse version Volundr.

They're the same, but every region had their preference for cetain deities and local names.
The problem, if there is any, could be that most norse myth miniatures look like vikings or some victorian interpretation of it and not like saxons.

And that's my concern, is it just not going to 'look right'.

Very similar but there is plenty to flavour them differently in terms of appearances etc.

That sounds, interesting...
Just throwing this out there, Superfigs has a Perun figure that might work as the basis for something slightly less Viking.

In the end big thunder guy with a hammer will probably be called Thor by most people today. So you might be better of taking a lesser know god that is "bigger" in Saxon mythology perhaps.

You might want to track down the 40mm Graven Images saxons.

many of the Grave Images ranges are available here now, but I don't see the saxons:

You could do one of those 40mm figures as Seaxneat (who may or maynot be an analogue of Tyr)...

Crann Tara will be at Triples next weekend so I'll take a look cheers.
-
If you could please ask them if and when they are going to release the Dark Ages and Bronze Ages packs. There's no email on their site.
-
Will do.
