Title: The Great Escape
Post by: Hidalgo on May 10, 2014, 02:17:07 PM
Some years ago I bought some Gret Escape miniatures y Ebob Minaitures webpage.
I painted them, but soon I felt not convinced at all by the results. Since then they were waiting for a repainting. Finally now, the moment has come.

You can watch here how I painted the miniatures in 2009:

And now 2014 version.
I have begun painting the german commander of the Prisoners camp.

The Prisoners Camp for pilots, Stalag Lutfs, were under Luftwaffe's responsability, so all the personel belonged to that arm of the german military forces.
The uniform of the commander was Blue (luftwaffe blue), with yellow insignia (I recommend you to read Painting War 1, a guide book with minaitures beautifully painted by Heresybrush! - you can buy it here http://www.breakingwar.com/store/index.php?id_product=35&controller=product&id_lang=4 )

A little modelling mistake by Ebob is that the eagle of the breast in on the left side, but it should be in the right side, as you can see in the movie and in this Osprey sheet.

As I dont have Luftwaffe Blue color, I mixed Prussian blue with black to get a similar color. I highlighted addind a little bit of white paint. A defect that I see in the miniature is that is has a twisted mouth, but except that, it is a really good miniature. I made a very simple base, since he is supposed to be walking on the Stalag Luft camp.I hope you like the mini!

I agree, the first lot are good but this one is even better. I'm really looking forward to watching this progress.

At the risk of being macabre, the Luftwaffe was getting short of experienced aircrew by 1943 so any senior pilot running a Stalag was likely to be unfit for flying.  You may have a chap who has picked up a nasty head wound that has grounded him....

Now is the moment of the guards of the Stalag Luft.

I didnt like at all the iluminations of the last mini (that I think that they are too "agressive"), so this time I did them softer, but I think that finally they are too soft  >:(
