On the inside back cover of Warhammer Great War, no less.
Robb Broom from Warhammer Historical has confirmed on the WAB forum that the figs in the sepia-tinted photo on the inside back cover of the WH GW rules are indeed the forthcoming GWM Americans.
Even at a distance, they look nice, a-toting their Springfields.
The Happy Dance will commence shortly.

Do they look a lot like the British? Otherwise I don't really know which photograph you mean.
-
The Americans used the tin hat once seriously in the field instead of the hat which is in our collective memory when Airfix released theirs. So I think it is the very picture. It would be a bit "over the top", wouldn't it, to use Brits to announce a book covering Yanks. I see their is a Gallipoli and Middle East book also and I've heard rumours about the Eastern Front as a book. Nowhere though Have I seen anything on Belgians, early or late war or Austrians and Italians for that matter. Anyone knows more about this?
-
I don’t know if anyone else notice but there’s also an example of a painted American soldiers on the top right of the little cardboard piece in their blister pack. Anyhow they do look like very good figures. I own some French infantry and I’m really please with them. It’s really the best WWI line around… I just hope that they release new figures more often! lol

I would like to see some late war french ;D

My enthusiasm for GWM has waned considerably recently. I bought some ages ago and were very happy with them, but recent batches have seen problems. In a recent order about 75% of the figures' rifles arrived bent back almost 180 degrees, and there have been quite a few other bent articles too. Once a rifle is bent to that extent, it's very hard to get it looking straight and true again. I don't know if it's just me, but they seem to be made of a much bendier metal than other ranges such as Brigade's. Also the packaging from North Star has left something to be desired, contributing to the problem.
Yes, they are lovely figures in the photos, but that isn't what you always get.

You do have point there… The French infantry I’ve received look nice once clean up and painted but all the rifles were bent and at least one rifle was both twisted and bent! >:( I think that they (GWM/North Star) should put a little foam pad in their blister so that the figures move less during their travel to the consumer’s home.

I had bent rifles in all my blisters, but contributed it to me being very unlucky. I'm not really bothered by that actually, the thing, however, that bothers me to no end is the mouldlines on most of their models. It takes ages to get them all away. GWM is the only company I know that has such huge mouldlines.
A shame for otherwise such great figures.
PS Not that I stop buying them, of course... ;)

ditto that, after hearing so much raving about them (I have to agree they are very nice figures) I was surprised at just how much 'cleaning up' i had to do on them. I suppose the more 'flash' there is the less chance you have of actually missing something as it ensures the casting is full.
Still probably the most 'natural' and best proportioned figures on the market all the same. As you say these issues wont stop me buying them ;-) cant wait to see their early war BEF cavalry..

Northstar have a couple of packs on sale now, with a couple pending..

Picture of the new Yanks at the bottom. The figure looks fantastic as well as the gun crews.

You are all correct about the condition GWM arrive in. Heaps of flash, rifles and bayonets bent. Unfortunately I ended up with one figure with a snapped rifle. But I do like them once straightened out and cleaned up. I will keep buying.

They are now at Nothstar and they look the part:

Sorry to "highjack" this post again…
Some questions have been raised here on the problem that some of us experienced with GWM’s bent, twisted or broken rifles and the amount of flash on some figures. So I think that I should let you know of the following…
I’ve send an e-mail to North star asking for a missing rifle in one of my blister and take the opportunity to let them know about this post and here’s a part of the e-mail I received from Nick at North Star:
“…I did see the forum. I've tried to join but nothings happened yet. It is all news to me because no one has ever contacted me direct about this problem, so we send our little men off into the world and unless someone says anything we've no idea what state they arrive in. It would be useful to know whether the figures are from shops or direct mailorder. If it's shops we need to add foam to our blister packs, if it's mail order we need to package them better. I've already instigated a 'no blister packs in mail orders' policy on the strength of that forum.
Cheers
Nick“
If all those who had some problem with Great War Miniatures figures get over it without complaining to North Star, I think it show how much we love those miniatures despite the little problem we had here and there. ;)
Cheers!

Hi Nick, if your reading this post. I get my figures direct from you by mail order. I actually found the figures that were sent in a blister arrived in better condition than the figures in clip seal bags. Hopefully that will help out.
Cheers

I bought most of my GWM figures at a show .They came in grey blisters and some of the rifles were indeed bent but not to such a degree they couldn't be straightened out easily.
Long nosed pliers with a foam insert can do wonders....

On the condition of GWM miniatures - same goes for Perry. I guess it's the same caster.

Pics of infantry one with backpack and one without are now on the North Star site.

Also for the early war French a St. Etienne MG and crew.

Just received today an order of Perry "Sudan" sailors: identical codes in both card boxes and clamshell blisters. The figures in blisters have definitely suffered more bending of bayonets, as they are free to move.
A foam insert as in traditional blisters would surely reduce movement and hopefully damage. I never throw away the foam pads, but recycle them for packing***, so it's not an environmental issue for me. But I wonder: is there a "green" equivalent for that sort of foam sheet, in the same way there are now biodegradable foam "peanuts" for packing?
***You can accumulate a startling quantity of foam bits over thirty years of figure collecting...

Last year I received some small electronic parts in a clamshell blister that had been packed with seaweed pads. They were oftly dry and left quite a bit of dust behind, but seemed to work OK.

I wonder if you could chop them up and add them to a bowl of miso soup...
