Many thanks all, As said really enjoyed painting these figures. I have given up on the Moko tattoos as just dont look right no matter what (linked more to my poor brushwork and the pens being harder to use than a brush)

I have enjoyed Arteis painting the designs though can be a challenge. Must say your blog and Bjeorns have kept my interest and inspired me no end :D

Being a megalomaniac when I start project (not always finish them mind you) my plans include;

50 British regulars from the 58th
20 British regulars (using Ist Corp here for a little variety from 99th)
2 10 man units of milita (sappers and those in slouch hats on order)
2 rocket tubes one Empress and the other from Perry range to be Royal Marine team
Royal Navy detachment (havent ordered the cannon as yet)
12 settler volunteers, mix of empress and Perry civilians plus the ladies fromm Empress

Maori I have 80+ maori on the lead pile to be broken down into 8 Hapu plus leaders and the cannon.

I am planning on building a Pa for the Brits to assault

Quite a good read, fictional takes you through the 1839-1880s through eyes of a settler, quite balanced and not often you can find fiction on the subject and £3.49 on kindle would be rude not to :D

Having looked at the plan this morning I may pull it back form the edges as want to taper them and think got a little carried away so would leave one hell of an escarpment as it is :)

If I may be so bold as to say that it would be great as a centre piece on the tabletop so don't scale it back too much,  would be my advice anyway  :).

Cheers gents,

I have had an odd false start but now into the swing of things, I had to abandon my Moko tattoos simply through lack of skills but dont think they suffer too much.

They are lovely figures and Poly I would certainly advise getting the odd pack to have a bash play with :)

I still have another 40 or so Maori to go so am thinking about a few trade shawls and have a go at more weapon sap outs, the axes were very easy to do and look pretty good to add variety over the range.

Darrel, sorry about catching you mid Sarnie and also in the middle of a lead deal ;)

Saw this on ebay, cheap (at present) copy of to face the daring Maori, a cracking read of the Flagstaff war from diaries and reports, a real page turner for the period. My copy cost £20 so you can see the deal  ;)

Do I spy some 1st corps?

You do, I picked up around 50 of their Cape wars range and hae been converting them with head swaps. To officer in shirt sleeves is perfect as a militia officer in his pork pie hat  :D the other has a perry carlist head chop and is a subaltern :)

How do they stack scale wise against the empress stuff? I heard it's a bit small which is a shame as the command officers are especially good.

Also funnily enough i've had a similar thought for the militia officer, even using that miniature from 1st corps after reading a  series of colonial battle articles in Wargames illustrated, always though the militia need their own command set in more casual clothes.

They are smaller, but I am keeping them in separate units. I have used Tam Oshanter heads on the 1st corps minis which actually make them fit a little better too

will try and get a photo up so you can see what I mean

Many thanks gents, I enjoyed painting these. Patterns on skirts were a little challenging to get variety but not overly so.

I had fun with some head and weapon swaps which were very easy on these but must admit the last 16 were a real chore. Saturday sees the whole Hapu in battle ;Dk

Ka pai!  Fantastic.  That looks really impressive.

As for pa, are you aware of the 3D printable files of pa fencing being produced by Printable Scenery?

They'll be perfect for your force.  And it is a growing range.  Though of course you'll need access to a 3D printer to print them out from the files.

Cheers

They are lovely and nice and easy to paint. I have the cannon and rocket crews and they are beauties too, some could be used as generic Tars with no weapons, I think they should package them separately as they could be used for other periods or as ships crew
