Battle five in our ongoing Underway campaign saw Gruzzkup on the back foot as he sought to repel a rival orc invasion into his caverns

How have you found the underway setting? Worth an investment?

Worth a fiver I reckon.
There are a lot of  random events and things to remember at the start of the turn ( cave ins, gas bubbles etc.) that are designed to add flavour, but we quite often forget after the first turn! There's a rule that affects shooting that doesn't bother our two Orc armies, but may be tiresome for Elves...

Beyond that you've got a few unique scenarios and some campaign rules for generating the battles and stratagems you can use to influence the games.
There's also a campaign tracker to record your games, but we can't get it to work!

If you're a tournament or "competitive" style player, then its probably not for you - unbalanced forces and too many random events - but if you're looking for something to add variety and link your games with a regular opponent then its ideal.

Nothing earth shattering, or that any reasonably experienced Warhammer player couldn't do yourself in a few hours, but good fun and value for a fiver ( if you ignore the several hundred pound iPad you also need).

I might look into it then. My new Warhammer opponent is very focused on tournament style gaming and I'm trying to find something fun that might lure him away from just taking the hardest choices out of his army books and playing a variation of pitched battle.

Hmmmm.
Good luck with that.
I think this is very much NOT a product for that type of gamer.
Without knowing him, or wishing to besmirch his character, I suspect the "unfairness" of some of the scenarios will be anathema to him and he won't enjoy it.

Excellent report, thanks for that all sounds fun and tongue in cheek which as far as I am concerned that is what fantasy is about. Don't have an ipad don't want an ipad, but its sure to come out in some other way at some point.

Apparently there's no plans to put it out in any other format.
Something about the unique way Apple can present it's electronic books means it won't be translated to Android or similar.
Ironically those features (campaign tracker) are the bits that don't seem to work for us.

So, if you don't have an iPad I guess you are no longer a Proper Hobbyist(tm).

(I don't have one either, but my opponent does)

From the short time of knowing him, I expect its the only way he's ever played warhammer or wargames in general (he's only played warhammer, wh40k and hordes/warmachine as far as I know), so I'm quite keen to get him to try some new things, which might pull him away from unkillable demon princes e.t.c. I've dug out my old 4th edition campaign books to show him those as well.
