Title: ARC Generators again
Post by: AndyT on 18 May 2014, 05:29:15 PM
Hello

Following on from the earlier discussion about this (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=64993.0 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=64993.0)) I ordered some generator backpacks from Last Stand Convertibles and they arrived a few days ago.

I have not painted them or added them to a miniature yet but I hope to take some pictures soon.

In the meantime, if you are in the UK then rest assured that they did only charge me three dollars postage despite paying 6.55 to send the parcel to me, so they are taking a hit on the shipping costs.

Cheers,
Andy

My good friend Admiral Byng gave me a few of these when we met up at Salute. They are excellent pieces what!

I am glad somebody received them.

I have entered a PayPal dispute for the original purchase*.  Oddly enough my order on Ebay fir the same item is in the mail, what is that all about?  Hopefully it is a different seller...

Silly me, the website history made it look like I never paid but after retrying I checked Paypal and found two payments, the first from April 14...  My e-mails have not been returned using the website contact e-mail and ther ehas been no response from the seller on Paypal as of this moment.

Why have a website with a contact e-mail and never respond?  Oh well, that would be $24 (-) that somebody beside them (and GW or Eureka USA) will ever get.

Gracias,

Glenn

Here are some pictures of the steam punk generators by 15, 20, and 25 mm circles, a Taer, a couple of 'Clx, some Reaper and a Foundry War Games Figures for size comparison purposes.  These were shot last night under bad lighting ad posted this morning to keep my word to try and get them up as promised.

First, the best fit, the Taer.

Next...  Some 'Clix Super Apes

Foundry Darkest Africa figure.

Depth view  compared to 25 mm (used) bases, 20 mm circle, and 15 mm base.

Width View compared to bases.

Overall, I am disappointed by the relative size of these to the figures I use.  If you used larger figures then these might work quite well.  I need to consider placing them on the Taer with Greenstuff for the Jane Badall Company but will need to find alternative packs for other companies or actually risk creating them with some form of "clay" like Sculpey, Greenstuff, or something similar that can keep crisp rectangular edges.

Gracias,

Glenn

Wow, those are a lot bigger than I expected.

Wow, those are a lot bigger than I expected.

Many of my figures (especially the older ones) are "true" 25/28 mm figures (whatever "true" means  lol I suppose,) so larger figures  might find these useful.  I may try putting them on Bob Murch Hominids or Apes which might be larger (waiting for package.)  I may also mount them on a  stand as a "transportable" (Ape, Elephant, Draft horse, Steam Horse, Steam Ram,) piece of equipment too.

Wider, taller, and thinner (depth,) than I wanted but nice potential still for... "something" to carry.

Gracias,

Glenn

I suspect that they are built for 40K figures. Thanks for the photos. It certainly killed any interest I had in them.

So,  ???  what should I try and sculpt my Arc Generator back packs from?  Green Stuff?  One of the more esoteric sculpting materials?  I have never sculpted (correct usage?) before but a rectangle with "Bits" added on should not be too hard, right?   ::) - Lord, what am I getting myself into with this madness?

Gracias,

Glenn

who doesn't know enough to know when he is in danger of going totally mad, I suspect...   ;D   :o   o_o

I suck at scratch building so I cheat where I can, I wondered if it might be easier to find some scraps that could be assembled into an arc generator rather than try and sculpt one?
I'm thinking the innards of a scrapped PC, phone, router, kinder egg, watch, light switch or landline socket might yield some bits with the right shape and texture that could be simply glued together?
Just a thought ....

Depends on your natural inclinations I suspect but that would work also I am sure.

Nice, that should make an interesting combo.

Who's the Dame in the upper left of this pic in between the two apes?

Reaper - Trina Sabor.   French woman (Trilingual plus :French, [SouthWestern] Mandarin - see http://www.google.com/imgres?imgrefurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.languagesgulper.com%2Feng%2FTibeto.html&tbnid=Wg-JhKPfr3veLM:&docid=oxfZSYJ7W06iaM&h=791&w=792, and Cantonese plus a passable skill with a Tibetan trade Pastische for trading purposes) raised in China (parents now dead because of bandits stealing artifacts) running around with the "Asian Tarzan Like/Lite Team" I am building.

The other figure is a Reaper Half Elf Female Monk (much to do to make it more human looking) in case anyone is interested.

Gracias,

Glenn

I received my ones some time ago, so here they are.

Two sprues, 2 of each of 3 different types, from this auction. The tallest is about 25mm high, and the widest about 18mm.

I think they look about right. I got them from this auction -

I've got some of the Maxmini packs too. Anyone got any suggestions for suitable figures in European or steampunk type workwear or shirtsleeves that would work with these? The figures would need to be heroic 28/30mm and fairly broad across the shoulders.
