Anyone know what tactics would be used by the British army in this era? Was there a manual?

There was one indeed :

http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=uUYIAAAAQAAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=field+exercises+and+evolutions&ei=kKQFSompCI_CzAS8udnvDQ#v=onepage&q=field%20exercises%20and%20evolutions&f=false (http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=uUYIAAAAQAAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=field+exercises+and+evolutions&ei=kKQFSompCI_CzAS8udnvDQ#v=onepage&q=field%20exercises%20and%20evolutions&f=false)

The 1860's were a transitional period as the lessons learned the hard way in the Crimea and during the Bengal mutiny were being incorporated in British infantry tactics.

Thank you, Arthur. My resolve not to buy these figures is fading.....

Some nice plastic Union troops to act as opponents would be nice too.

Guys,

Any ideas on what standards the Canadians would have had, can I just get away with British flags of the same regimental numbers?

Any online source for canadian regiments facing colours?

Similar but smaller, here are the colours of the 13 Bn Royal Canadian Volunteer Militia possibly carried at Ridgeway circa 1866

Thanks, will he take orders for other Canadian regiments? looking to build the 21st, 12th, 34th, 35th and 36th Bn's
Is there a book of all the flags and uniforms or is it a case of googling it and hoping someone's put up the regimental museum flags?

This is madness!.....Oh wait my scots fusilier guards are on the way,but I am going to paint them as the Danish Guard ,even though they did not fight in 1864,....and then I'll paint the British to intervene on behalf of the Danes...and Canada and fenian rebellion...too much to paint not enough time.Beautiful flag.

Rick has always been very accommodating to my requests so it is definitely worth asking.  If you want something similar to mine, but with a different number, he has mine on file so should be able to tweak what he already has.  That being said if you can find a picture he'll usually do as closer representation as he can to what you want.

I've found very little information on the Net with regard to colours or uniforms, I am aware of one book though:

http://www.servicepub.com/old_colours.htm

I've only seen the older edition so I add this caveat - the copy I saw had very few pictures and a whole lot of text about where the colours went and where they are now, with no descriptions.  Unfortunately, unlike British colours which are state property, Canadian colours belonged to the Regt so were often lost, destroyed, given away, taken by old COs etc etc.

The only other colour I've found on the net are on this page (but you'll need to ditch the battle honour):

http://townshipsheritage.com/exhibit/sake-ireland-fenian-raids-missisquoi-county-1866-1870-part-1

Hope that helps.
