I'm looking to get an airbrush for basecoating only, I'm not looking to be doing any fine detail with it. Can you recommend an inexpensive and easy to use airbrush for the job?
I've been trying to basecoat tanks using a brush, and try as I might, I can't get a result without brush marks showing through!
I'm thinking maybe the Badger 350? Seeing as I'm only going to be base coating tanks with it, I'm wondering if propellent cans would be OK? as buying a compressor is going to push the price right up!

I have the Paasche H type and for basecoating and varnishing, it is great.
I have included this link, which I hope helps.

Good luck.

Thanks for the link! :)
Do you use a compressor or propellent can?
I'm wondering if the cans are any good, and how much life you get out of them.
The alternative of using a compressor, well its the price of the things, do I need one for just basecoating and varnishing some tanks and other vehicles once in a while!

That looks very promising Svennn. Seems like it has had the thumbs up from those who own one (including yourself).

Also worth looking on ebay as a 'airbrush sets' with a compressor do come up often and sometimes go for peanuts...
Dont just check hobbies and crafts as a lot of really good compressors get used for.....
spray tanning :o
i kid you not!
If you look hard enough you can pick up a £200+ compressor for under £50.....
any colour you like, as long as its orange lol

I use a compressor. It was bought for me some years ago by my Wife. It is a simple diaphragm compressor without an air tank.

DO NOT go the air can or car tyre route, if you get and airbrush, get a compressor, its that simple.

I started out with the Revell starter set (singel action + small compressor) - more than adequate for basecoating.

Well you've given me a few options now, going to give me some things to think about.
Still haven't ruled out the Badger 350. Had been looking at the 'Baby Elephant Design Compressor CPS-1001' to go with this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Elephant-Airbrush-Compressor-Beauty-Cps-1001/dp/B00BJM4ABS/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_2?s=kids&ie=UTF8&qid=1401285170&sr=1-2-fkmr1&keywords=%27Baby+Elephant+Design+Compressor+CPS-1001%27
not sure how suitable it would be though! Sadly I now naff all about airbrushes or compressors.

I'll have to give a +1 to the revell starter set.
I have one wich i only use for basecoating and applying camo to 20mm - 28mm vehicles.
Gives nice results:

That is indeed a nice looking result you have on that tank!! Not sure if it would work for camo on 15mm tanks, which is the scale I'm working with, and anyway, I wouldn't have the skill to airbrush a decent camo at 15mm scale. But if you're picture is anything to go by, it will do a good job on basecoating 15mm tanks.

Well, depends on your skill i suppose ::)
For a good rundown of the kit look at this video:

For what it's worth, that tank, that was my first ever airbrushed model , so it went surprisingly easy!

Ive got the Aztec 470 and I use it for everything. The bad thing on Airbrush is. As fast you realize how nice you can work with it you will become curios what you can do with it aside from basecoating. With the aztec you can follow each way with nice results.
-
Petercooman123 do you use you're Revell airbrush for varnishing also?
-
Will also take a look at the Aztec 470, thanks!
