I absolutely love the rules - they work great with a lot of players - in our last game there where 10 players with 4 characters each - Mayhem from beginning to end:-

They sounds like just the thing, will have to check them out.

Fistful of Lead and Shoot and Skedaddle are my favorite rules for Old West action.  Both deliver a good, fun game.

Will folks with the current version from Wargames Vault get a discount on the new version?

(one can always ask...) ;)

I also wrote some additional stuff to the rules.

Weather Chart:
Roll a D6 at the beginning of the game.

1: It is a nice sunny day in Ol’ Hickory Flat.
2: A major sandstorm hits Hickory flat. After a long dry spell the winds pick up and Hickory flat disappears under a cloud of sand. Visibility is next to nothing.
Apply the following penalties for shooting*.
- Add +1 for to hit on short range (6+)
- Add +2 for to hit on long range (10+)
*The penalties do not apply inside buildings.
3: It’s raining cats and dogs. After the last dry spell it finally started to rain but the rainfall is very heavy this year turning the dry streets of Hickory flat into enormous mud pools.
Apply the following penalties for movement*:
- All movement is -1”.
- You can only move once per turn. The mud makes running impossible.
* The penalties do not apply on solid ground i.e. inside or on top of buildings and on pavements.
4: Dawn. It is early morning and it won’t be long before sunrise. It is still dark though in turn 1 and 2.
Apply the following penalties for shooting*:
- Add +1 on the to hit rolls in turn 1 and 2 (6+/9+).
* It is very early in the morning so all the shops are closed (and dark) even the Saloon and the Sheriff’s Office. The penalties also apply inside buildings.
5: Dusk. It is late in the afternoon and it won’t be long before dusk sets in. It will be dark from round 3.
Apply the following penalties for shooting*:
- Add +1 on the to hit rolls at the start of turn 3 onwards (6+/9+).
* The shops close in turn 3 so the buildings will be dark. Apply the penalties inside buildings. Note that the Saloon and the Sheriff’s Office are in full business and are fully lit so the penalties do not apply inside the Saloon and the Sheriff’s Office.
6: It is a nice sunny day in Ol’ Hickory Flat.

Herman the Vulture:
If a miniature is wounded and comes within 1” of the Vulture role a D6.
On a roll of 1 the Vulture is attracted by the smell of blood and attacks. You suffer 1 wound.
On a roll of 6 the Vulture also attacks and he picks out an eye.
For the rest of the game you have a -1 penalty for shooting on the to hit chard.
On a roll of 2-5 the Vulture is startled by the sudden noise and flies away.

Old Woofer:
If a miniature comes within 1” of the dog role a D6.
On a roll of 1 apply the ‘a dog is a best mans friend’ rule. The dog will accompany you for the remainder of the game. In close combat you add +1 to your die roll.
On a roll of 6 the dog bites you in the leg. You get a -1” penalty on movement for the remainder of the game.
On a roll of 2-5 the dog is startled by your presence and runs D10” in random direction (scatter).

The Stampede rule:
If shots are fired within 2" of the Corral or if shots are fired into the Corral role a D6.
On a roll of 2-5 nothing happens
On a roll of 1 and 6 the cows panic and there is a stampede.

Roll a D3, this is how wide the stampede is.
Than roll a scatter die and a D10. The cows run D10"
If the cows run into miniatures roll a D6, on a 6 the miniature jumps into safety just in time. On a 1-5 roll on the to wound chart.

Meet Herman:

And the cows:

Herman is cool! I have Fistful of Lead but haven't had a competitive game yet as I'm still painting figures and buildings. My test games suggest it's going to be great fun!

My gaming buddy Groove51 has a Pinkerton figure who is called "one eyed Jack" because Herman picked out his eye in the first game we ever played. For a dozen games now Jack shoots at a -1 penalty  lol

Cpt Jake,
The new update rules are almost 50 pages. Reformatted with more picks, 16 new scenarios so quite a bit extra than before. The price will still be low (the original being a mere $6) and available in pdf and printed. I'm also working on a custom card deck so you don't have to remember all those pesky special card abilities.

We play 'Big Boys' games with the old Britains Deetail Wild West figures. There's always a couple of vultures, grizzly bears, bison and eagles kicking about as scenery. Thanks to Za... they'll all be joining in now!

Great value rules and always a blast.

We're having a game this weekend. The Marshal and his underlings are holding the army payroll in their jail till a Troop of Cavalry arrive to collect it. In the manure hole, that's Dead man's Gulch nobody can keep a secret, So Marshal Twirp and his Deputies are at Defcon 1... they'll need to be 'cos the Cavalry Troop's the Wild Bunch in disguise, I'm guessing Twirp and his men will find this out when they're on the recieving end of the Bunch's first volley!

lol

My Dear Baron, an absolutely spiffing time was had by all!
The Wild Bunch foxed me (umpire/drunken Mexican mover) by blagging, not blasting, their way into Twirp's jail signing for the gold then marching away right down main street with it. A lad sprinted from the telegraph office to inform the Marshal that the Paradise River patrol would be late in pickin' up the payroll... Twirp scratched his head, twice, then asked an underling who the soldiers taking the payroll might be?
When the nickel finally dropped all hell let loose in Dead Man's Gulch, Deputies and Bandits swapping hot lead. Marshal Twirp's certainly not long on brayns, but he's long on true grit when the lead starts flying, personally sending three of the Bunch to boot hill and capturing a wounded Pike Bishop plus one of his henchmen! The Paradise River patrol duly turned up in time for the victory parade and a fine rendering of 'Gather At The River' by the jubilant townsfolk.
Next week the Gulcher's plan to hang Pike and his cohort high, but the remains of his Bunch might have other ideas... and there's a'gunna be a reckoning for Twirp and his Deputies.

lol  ;D  lol

It's a lovely table you've got there with lots of eye candy  :). Nice to see so many Foundry civilians out and about, wonder what the two strapping lads were having fisticuffs about  ;). I might be wrong but are a couple of the pieces (Boot Hill and watertower) from Frontline Wargaming? I need to get my own Boot Hill basecoated and painted now...

Only makes me more interested in the new rules and will keenly await them for purchasing. Seems like they could be really fun.

Are there rules for random civilians/ bystanders and such as well in them? I have about 20 Foundry civilians that'd be coming in handy for them.

Once the FoL rules are republished, we'll be following with a set for Black Powder, Post Apoc, and Sci Fi.

Lots of love for Fistful of Lead coming soon to a tabletop near you.

The Post Apoc rules are about 75% written, still need to do art and formatting. We have done some fun play tests. Lots of Gonzo Post Apoc fun.

I would assume Black Powder Era will be first then Post Apoc.

Have I got this bit right? If a shootist stops one in the open and it's a 'pin' he moves to the nearest cover and lurks there till recovering. If he can't reach cover he hits the dirt where he is in the middle of the street.

The Gulchers triumphed in the end!
Tuco and his border trash, fought it out with both the Vile Bunch and the forces of law and order yesterday. When the lead stopped flying all the law dogs and every member of the Vile Bunch were face down in the dirt, Tuco and four of his border trash minions were still standing... Dead Man's Gulch was theirs!
To have themselves a celebrate the Bandits started shooting up the town, killing the guesthouse landlady with a stray round. This brought the enraged Gulcher's from their hiding places with a vengeance. In a ten minute killing spree, that put the Bunch and Lawmen's efforts to shame the whores, barkeeps, shopkeepers and dentist shot Tuco's men to pieces. Tuco watched the mayhem unfold from the stoop of the saloon while swigging tequila, he should have been watching his back... Dolores Schofield, best little whore in Texas, snuck up and emptied both barrels of her Derringer into the back of his melon!
An excellent game, with a really unexpected twist at the end that had us all laughing out loud... next week Marshal Twerp and his merry men will be making the long walk to the KO Corral where the remains of the Vile Bunch will be looking for payback.

;D

Title: A Fistful of Scalp!!!
Post by: Harry Faversham on 14 August 2014, 11:54:09 AM
The Dynamic Dunderheads gathered with cards, dice and measuring sticks yesterday, just as dawn was breaking at the Circle B ranch 15 mile east of Dead Man's Gulch...
The Great Lame Beaver and his band of Cheyenne Dog Soldiers were out for blood and scalps. From a boulder overlooking the Circle B the Indian Chief signalled his Braves into action. Unfortunately for the Redskins, Pedro the ranch's faithful old Mexican retainer, bladder played him false on this chill morning. On his lonely hike to the dunny he spotted a feathered headdress among the rocks and let fly with his old Colt's Dragoon. The thunderous report set the palefaces to stumbling out of their bunks and the Redskins to a whoopin' an a hollerin' charge. Three ranch hands took arrows as they stumbled from the bunkhouse, J. Henry, the Circle B's owner, rallied the rest and a spirited defence broke the Indians charge after a hard fight. Sadly, not before two Braves had broken in through a back door of the big house, wounded Mrs. J. Henry,  then killed and scalped her two housemaids.
As the surviving raiders skulked away into the rocks a blast from a Cavalry trumpet heralded the arrival of Lootenant Hampton Gayblade's Powder River patrol. Right past The Great Lame Beaver's command boulder they thundered, four shots from the Chief's Henry repeater emptied every saddle! As the dust settled it became apparent that the Chief was really good at shooting horses but a tad crap at drilling Bluebelly's... a return volley from their Carbines knockin' The Great Lame Beaver from his perch and straight into the Happy Hunting Grounds.
The fight was over, Gayblade took breakfast with J. Henry, as the rancher's underlings tended the wounded and buried the dead. The Redskins were left where they'd fallen, as J. Henry observed...
'crows gotta eat too!'

:)

Tomorrow's game has me playing the rattlesnakes and grizzly bear!  :o
There's going to be a silver mine with a mad prospector who one bunch have to rob, the second bunch have turned up with one simple aim in mind... it's personal, kill all the first bunch!
I'm about to set up Crazy Pete's Silver Mine high in the hills above Dead Man's Gulch, it's wild and dangerous high country. As the lowlife's go about there dastardlies they'll run the risk of stepping on a rattlesnake or three lurking in the shadows of deep cover. The first gunshot will also trigger a random attack by a bad tempered Grizzly.
We play our FofL with 'big boys toys' in 54mm, the Grizzly is a Britains model and the diamond backs are Playmobil toys that look suitably daft in their cartoon repaint... wanted a couple of Playmobil scorpions but they've been delayed due to the Bank Holiday!  :'(

The Man With No Brayn done killed himself a Grizzly Bear!
The 'orney Grizz made a beeline for TMWNB, who did that twizzly thing with his ceegar from one side of his mouth t'other, drew his Colts and let fly but having no brayn had forgot to load 'em. Grizz got up close and personal, TMWNB drew his Bowie knife and they got to it... when the dust settled TMWNB had nary a scratch and the bear was a goner!
One of the rattlers bit Tuco and died from getting poisoned!!!

We had another game today that had eight cowboys and two wimmin' under siege in a half burnt out stagecoach station. As dawn broke they had to make a dash for it on foot for the fort. The Indians were waiting in the brush and gullies and quickly killed then scalped half the cowboys. Two other Braves in the rocks with Henry rifles wounded nearly every other paleface. Then the pendulum took a surprise swing as the remaining cowboys risked all in a rush on the Indians. When the dust settled two cowboys and a soiled dove were left standing. Of the Redskins there were none... and history had been made!

:)
