Title: [PA League] LEGIO PROMETHEUS Gabinetto RS/33 (Added: L6/40 tank)
Post by: Katsuhiko JiNNai on June 11, 2014, 01:34:00 PM
Here my second PA league I'm beginning.
Actually I only painted one miniature: the sidekick Giulietta Bellucci. (see the picture)
I'm waiting the other miniatures I've yet ordered.
I include sample pictures of the miniatures I will use too.

It's a 1933-1941 Weird Wars league of italians, to search for unknown and mysterious artifacts from alien, occult or ancient origin.

Background:

The GABINETTO Ricerche Speciali anno 1933 (Cabinet Special Researches 1933 year), in charge of collecting, investigating and suppressing UFO data, was founded in 1933 on orders from Il Duce Mussolini, after a crashed disc aircraft of unknown origin was recovered from Lombardia. Gabinetto RS/33 have links with the Fascist secret police OVRA and with "Agenzia Stefani," the regime's news agency in charge of disseminating Fascist propaganda. Italys most famous scientist and inventor, Guglielmo Marconi, is the director of the Cabinet, which also include several other prominent Italian astronomers, scientists and aeronautical engineers. Marconi believe that alien life existe on Mars and that contact with the “Martians” would be possible from powerful radio transmissions. Some of the most important researches are about the Death Ray, flying saucers, flying Wing and first Jet aicraft Campini-Caproni C.C.2.
One of the best field agents of Gabinetto RS/33 is the loyal ex "Moschettiere del Duce" Benito Littorio Volpe that formed a special team the LEGIO PROMETHEUS in 1937, the same year when suddendly Marconi died.

Yes, very interesting to be reminded by the Italian example that fascism is a child of WW1 and that it is an underlying current of the Pulp period that most people tend to forget in view of the horrors of WW2. Many implications and topics to ruminate about here, thank You for the reminder.

As to the PA league, yes indeed, very good game interpretation, it looks like fun, and I like how You brought in the Void officer. What will be the other miniatures?

Thanks  :)
I enjoyed to do some research about italian interwar secret weapons. I was sure that Italy had some urban legends too, and Gabinetto RS/33 seem an excellent base for any weird wars ideas. There are many strange secrets in Italy, not just from alien or secret weapons, but from occult or mysterious sources too.

here some informations about italian secret weapons:
http://www.ww2incolor.com/forum/showthread.php/12015-Italian-secret-weapons-Marconi-s-death-ray-and-Belluzzo-s-flying-saucer

PS: I edited the first topic, including pictures of the miniatures I will use for my league too.

Yes, it could be pretty fine, but I've yet used that miniature for my Cobra Commander (that maybe will be the leader of another league) so I could not use it again  :(
I must give a look to the future warrior police,  :)

Yes I yet know that miniature  ;)
Maybe I could use later as a major plot, a fascist commander or the Duce himself  ;D

PS: The miniatures are arrived, now I must wait only the captain littorio.
I found that in the two West Wind Drop Troopers suits there is not the backpack  :-X Must ask to the retailer.  ???
The heads of the west wind miniatures seem smaller than that from artizan, but with the russian gas mask heads this is not so evident.

Well, it's a PULP Alley league, in all the other league there are many pulp women, just give a look of the many league of weird wars germans with blonde Valkyries (just see DUST, for example). ;) If I remember well, just the russians used women in their fighting forces.
So, It's  your criticism that does no make sense: To highlight a historically inaccurate detail on a topic that is clearly yet a product of pure pulp weird wars imagination ;)

and again what is the meaning of this (Che Guevara?)?:
Asta la victoria ... siempre!
We are here to play pulp or weird games not to do politic, I don't see players of weird germans hail chaplin when finishing their topics ;)
If all players should be near to the politic of their league or armies they play, this should mean that all german players are nazi, all players of italians are fascists, all the players of orcs are mad butchers and players of chaos are real followers of the dark gods :D Just play, nothing more.  :-*

After finishing the Red Ribbon Blue Corp and Baker Expedition, it's time to continue with the legio prometheus.
Here the Sergeant Galeazzo Musolesi, he lead the blackshirt gang ;)

I used an Artizan miniature, including a new helmet and a little conversion on the jacket.
He is based on the character of Galeazzo Musolesi, from the italian "Sturmtruppen" comic
Here the original character  :D:

Thanks, here one of the italian paratroopers [Ally: Camicia Nera Scelta (Corporal)] with drop battle suit.

I included a new backpack, new gun, new head with modified gas mask and riveted shoulder.

The paint scheme is based about this picture:

The riveted shoulder is perfect. Italian tanks and armored cars had many ritets, in fact the armor was not the best.  :(
I could give the idea that the drop battle suit was originally a german project that italians bought, but was produced in an italian factory (probably Fiat-Ansaldo supervised by the Cabinet RS/33), with all limits about light riveted armors.

It could be a good idea, but they could be fine with a thematic campaign with some leagues based about the anime, with porco rosso and fiona duo (and the Macchi M.33), and maybe the "mamma aiuto!" fly gang and the other characters... Strange that nobody yet do it  :? I remember I saw a picture of a painted miniature of the  Macchi M.33 somewhere in the forum.  o_o

Sorry I don't have any comparison pics. I but I do think that Empress offers a more detailed figure's then Copplestone. Where as Copplestone is more pulp.

Oh yes, Empress makes some lovely models. I think Mr Hicks does a lot of their sculpts, and he's certainly the cat's nightwear. My only concern is how closely they scale next to Pulp Alley, Copplestone, and Artizan minis -- cuz that's mostly what I gots.

Some on else might be able to help. But this is a pic of some Copplestone, up against some Tsuba and Musketeer figs.
Copplestone, seems to be decidedly along the "Heroic" scale of 28's where as Empress leans more toward true 28's

Ayup, thats what I was thinking.

Well, Empress will mix fine with the figures Mila is using for her Venus 1881 VSF campaign for Pulp Alley -- Hinterland and so forth...

THANKS for the link.

Empress varies I find. Sometimes they're a bit too small to be credible (even accounting for smaller men), other times it's not so bad and they work well enough.

Lovely work on the blackshirt there. Especially all the complex little helmet bits!

I have them all in the mix and I find them absolutely compatible. The styles/proportions are close to each other and I can even interchange heads - the only problem are sometimes the old 25mm because of the smallish heads, but the proportions are similar and the weapons too. Copplestone has a distinctive style (which he hasn't treated us with more recently, sadly) of clean design and very consistent proportions throughout, but a limited range of postures, unfortunately, so needs enrichment by other ranges.

I'm considering to include some Eritrean Askari in my league (a new gang), and I know that Empress Miniatures have some nice Askari, the size is fine for my Artizan miniatures? I could take some warlord bolt action italian soldiers with steel helmet too, but must be sure their size is fine for all the other miniatures I've yet (artizan, sotr, copplestone, Empress).

I gave a look, but Copplestone have only XIX century Askari and from other countries, I need the XX century Askari from italian Eritrea. So the Empress Miniatures seem fine, if they have the correct size.

Huh. They might not work for Eritrea, but I think the Schutztruppe Askaris are pretty clearly XX century, rather than XIX:

The East Africa Co. Askaris also seem fine to me, but I can understand they wouldn't be usable as proper wartime soldiers, since their kit is just too informal:

I painted the second italian paratrooper with drop battle suit.
I'm considering if paint a small italian flag in the right or left side of the paratrooper's torso (some italian tanks had an italian painted flag over the armor) as the german WW SoTR version that have a german cross.

Now I must only paint the leader (I'm waiting the miniature I've ordered) and maybe another gang with eritrean askari and a CV35 tankette.  :D

Thanks, and here finally Capitan Littorio  :D
Ironically, after ordered the miniature I wanted to use (Phantom Ace from Pulp Alley and new head from Victoria miniatures) I found that an old plastic miniature of a Warzone Bauhaus officer with a Warzone Imperial officer head could be fine for my leader. So I paint it. I've included some small italian flags in the right side of the paratrooper's dorso too (as some italian tanks had), just to say... hey these guys are italians, not germans with russian heads and british guns  ;)

I'm not sure if paint the armor of the capitan with a camouflage italian scheme (as the paratroopers' helmets) or leave it with the grey-green paint scheme. Maybe should I include some insignia or symbols over the torso armor... or not?  :?

Yes, I must admit that it's really a fun league, now I'm painting the CV/35 tankette with some simple conversions, probably it will be the vehicle of Lieutenant Giulietta ;)
While for Capitan Littorio, I'm considering to order a Company B L6/40 and convert it in with the legs from the Company B Valkyrie PzKpf V Ausf B walker, to create a LC1/40 Light walker as did Agis in 15mm scale:

Thanks.  :) Well, maybe it's not so far from the historical truth.  ;)
I saw a documentary about italians during the IIWW and seem that they really liked to chat with girls everywhere they go (greece, africa, yugoslavia, russia, france)  o_o
But Was the scooter yet available during fascism? Maybe just the prototype of Moto Piaggio 5 "Paperino" (nickname: donald duck) from 1943?

it's a comedy bit...

and mine was an ironic consideration too  ;)
However it opened the question about scooters, I didn't know they were yet available in 1943, just some prototypes done from piaggio however...

mhmmmm... some weird wars italians miniatures on scooters?  o_o

I decided to change the League, the paratroopers will have "BIG" skill, not dodge and finesse, but health at D8 and might 2d8, not bad for simple allies.

here the updated league:

The LEGIO PROMETHEUS of Capitan Littorio 14 slots
Perk (3): Bastion of Scienze, Garage

Leader (0): Centurione (Captain) Dante Littorio Volpe nickname "Capitan Littorio"
H d10 B 3d10 S 4d10 D 3d10 M 2d8 F 2d8 C 4d10
Abilities: Commander, Clever, Marksman

Sidekick (3): Capo Manipolo (Liutenant) Giulietta Bellucci nickname "BellaDonna"
H d8 B 3d6 S 3d8 D 3d8 M 2d8 F 2d6 C 2d6
Abilities: Quick Shot, Sharp

x2 Allies (4): Camicie Nere Scelte (Corporals) (Paride Lupo, Vittorio Re)
H d8 B 1d6 S 2d6 D - M 2d8 F - C 1d6
Ability: Big

x5 Gang (2): Camicie Nere (Blackshirts)
Capo Squadra (Sergeant) Galeazzo Musolesi nickname "Polpetta"
Legionari (Soldiers) (Antonio Fortunato, Giuseppe Berardo, Giovanni Guerzoni, Filippo Tecchio)
H - B 3d6 S 3d6 D 1d6 M 3d6 F 1d6 C 1d6
Ability: Armed

x5 Gang (2): Ascari Eritrei
H - B 3d6 S 3d6 D 1d6 M 3d6 F 1d6 C 1d6
Ability: Loyal

Models: 14

I should have gear points enough (if the dice will not be terrific) to buy at leat one vehicle:
Vehicle CV/35 RS/33 Tankette "Topolino"
Size 1 Passegers 2 Reliability d6 Special Light Gun, Hull Mount, Light Armor pts 3

I've yet a 1939 Lancia 1Z Armored Car from Criel Model, 1/43 scale... this scale is fine too for use with 28mm miniatures? I know that usually the correct size should be 1/56 or 1/48.
I could consider to include (later) this vehicle too and give it to the eritrean gang, if the size is good.

I read that some of these old armored cars were still used in the italian african colonies until the end of IIWW.

Sometimes 1/43 works, but other times I've found the models to just be way too big. It can really vary.

I think it's probably okay if armoured cars are somewhat oversized though. it's less likely that they'll look "wrong" than say, a regular car would.

The criel model 1/43th lancia is about 50mm high and 110mm long, while I read that the copplestone castings 1/55th lancia is about 45mm high and 92 long.

about how italian fascism can't work because italians prefer to drive scooter and chat with girls

Fortunately, a lot of Italian girls, instead of wasting time chatting with fascist boys fought for freedom with the Gandhian non-violent method or using violent weapons

Here some updates, the eritrean askaris with blackshirt officer and the blackshirts with officer.
I will use Galeazzo as an ally or maybe as the leader of another gang of soldiers with grey-green uniform (when and if the league will be in european places).

The league should be complete, for now... maybe I will include some vehicles and the walker later  ;)

...and then finally I painted another vehicle for the legio prometheus, a pretty Light Tank L6/40.
Initially I bought this tank with the idea of do a conversion with the Company B Valkyrie Walker and create an italian Walker as yet did agis with his 15mm version:
But the conversion was harder than I have planned and I was not sure to do a good job, furthermore I felt it was a waste to sacrifice a so cute tank for a conversion, then I decided to left the tank unchanged and paint it. It is fine without any changes. I simple will use the Valkyrie kit with an easier conversion, just adding an italian turret to the hull and some minor changes to give an italian look.

Here the L6/40:
