Title: CNC Workshop Miniature Scenery Group Buy & Build
Post by: 6milPhil on 11 June 2014, 01:49:53 PM
Following on from a discussion about doing a group buy of pieces from CNC Workshop here: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=67792.msg821238#msg821238 here's the thread to organise it.

STEP 1
So go here: http://www.miniaturescenery.com and set the currency to UK£, this will help me work it out as I'll pay for it in £'s - rather handily a proportion of shipping is included in the price so that will help give an idea of final price.

STEP 2
Pick out what you'd like to order, and don't look too deeply as they've a pile of great looking stuff, and come and list it here by it's full name.

STEP 3
I'll pm you with my paypal account and the amount to pay. Please don't hang about on this step as I'd like to get this paid for asap. Mark it as a gift please.

STEP 4
I make the order and confirm it here.

STEP 5
Once delivered I'll pack everyone's order, work out any owed remnant of the original postage, plus forwarding postage plus the cost of the jiffy bag. Once that's paid I'll ship it out.

Let's rock!

HEAVY INDUSTRIAL FORKLIFT     £11.20
TACTICAL RESPONSE VEHICLE   £11.20

I could have really gone to town, but I was able to restrain myself; I still have 3 of their droppods lying around waiting to be put together... ::)

Ordered, should be here within 2 weeks. £2.94 outstanding on the postage each, don't pay that yet I'm just noting it here for reference.

It's a bit like Christmas but without the annoying fat bloke... oh hang on...

This is only my 3rd laser cut wood model, after a warbases outside toilet and warmill's recycle centre - http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=67870.msg821794#msg821794 -  so it's still interesting stuff.  ;)

These are both incredible models, both in design and execution, and already I can't recommend them highly enough. The design of the vehicle is thrilling, and just how they both figured this out and fitted it on to a single sheet flabbers my gast.  8)

Full instructions are on their website, and although they're comprehensive I did find the lack of numbers on them and next to the pieces on the board slowed me.  :?

This is the HEAVY MULTI-PURPOSE TRANSPORT 1 (HUMPT1)

When finished it should look like this:

This is the HEAVY INDUSTRIAL FORKLIFT
(http://i.imgur.com/3XNFPPK.jpg)

When finished it should look something like this:

This blurry pic gives a poor idea of the detail
(http://i.imgur.com/Lqf16NQ.jpg)

This one is better. As the cockpit is pretty enclosed when finished I'm going to start painting at around here.

The track unit is sexy as hell.

Although I'm not sure about fitting this piece to it at this stage as getting it slightly misaligned will ruin how it sits.  ???

So I've attached it to the chassis and will fix them once I've got the painting done. also the weights for the rear have been put together. This approach might not work, but I think it's worth trying to get the best out of this model.

Moved onto the painting, with these being the main components. I think this is about as far as you can construct it if you want to paint before final assembly. There are several smaller pieces still to go, but I'll do those seperately.

I've sprayed this Humbrol Yellow and then gone over that with Revel Lufthansa Gelb, which is German for JCB yellow. Painting in the cockpit is tricky...

Looking really good so far, Phil.
The initial pictures look a little scary...all those little parts!
 :o :o

Watching you put this together first is very reassuring.
You are making this easier for the rest of us, which I have to appreciate and thank you for.
 :D

I am really looking forward to having a crack at a fork lift now.

It is daunting to start with, but it's also great fun. I can't imagine how you might paint this if you put it all together though.

I've sussed how I need some pallets now, but the package with those and crates -like you got, seemed a bit pricey. I'll likely make one and cast it, and then put loads onto them.

Looking good.

However, please warn us in the topic title if there's going to be a bright (WIP) paint scheme. I have delicate eyes.

Nice work. I bought some of these guys stuff when it was on sale (fantasy stuff though) looks good when finished, not as good as resin though. The work you have done on it is looking great. :)

So paint up the six main pieces, joined the tracks to the chassis and did a basic weather on it, haven't weather the arms nor the weights yet, fixed them all together, applied decals and varnish. Sussed that I didn't put the cross spar behind the driver in the right place (that might have been best left until later) so the "barrel" piece on the rear will be left off.

You are going to make it difficult for me to resist doing mine with this progress report.
I have far too many things that need doing first, dammit!
 >:(

I picked them up from work today, by the way.
Cheers for sorting it, mate.

No worries.

It's quite a speedy build, but it slows when the painting, building, painting kicks in...

Mine came in the mail today too; I could smell burnt wood the second I opened the front door...  :D

Now to decide which one will come first; the forklift, or the armed response vehicle...

Is it me, or does the word TONKA come to mind? lol
( not that that's a bad thing! )

For an inexpensive MDF model I think its quite wonderful and does push the envelope a bit in terms of what can and cant be done...
And Phill's wonderful build guie & paint job does show it off splendidly.

Well done.

It does a bit, one of my dogs did get a hold of it, but one short trip to Battersea later and all's well.

I'm really impressed with how much it doesn't look like a laser cut kit, which I've typically avoided because they're too boxy and have tabs and joints all over the place.

I'm so sorry, Phil; I couldn't resist the gleaminess of the new.  :'( It must have been the burned HDF vapours, yes; that was it! ;D

I've caved, and got started on the Tactical Response Vehicle instead, and now the forklift will have to wait I guess...

Yesterday, the wife took the little one and went to visit family, so I had the entire afternoon to myself and my HDF. And I managed to complete the entire thing in one sitting. Well, the basic assembly anyway.

There's still tons to do to the kit, as there are some small gaps that need filling and I've already dug up some parts from Bitz Hill that will do very nicely on it, as I feel there's still a lasercut HDF feel to it in its unadorned form.

For instance, I'm not going to use the handrails and missile launcher that came with the kit. Neither will I use the hatch handles on top. Not a fault of the designers; I think they are taking what can be achieved with HDF (almost) to the limit, but there are some parts that simply cannot be lasercut from this material at this scale. More specifically; those parts that should be very thin.

So those will either be left off, or be replaced by more appropriate plastic and/or metal versions. The steps underneath the doors though, I've cut in half up to the tab, so they're not as thick anymore, and will do nicely now.

Also, I modified the wheel layers, so that instead of grooves running right across each tire, they now have a semblance of profile to them. I simply cut out the hole for the tab holding the layers by first holding two layers together, rotating one to the correct angle, marking its tab hole on the other one and then cutting that out with a sharp knife.  Pretty easy, but it still took almost a quarter of the entire building time...

Here's the basic vehicle, glue dry, without any gapfilling etc done yet:

And here it is, with some of the more important plastic parts mocked up on it:

Next step, undercoating the little beasty in grey, so all the gaps will be clearly visible, and they can be filled and filed...

That's looking good, especially with the resin extras.

Finished the forklift, but when I say finished having taken these photos I realised I haven't gloss varnished the lights yet.  >:(

I've also built a pallet which I'm just making a mould for. I'll put various loads on some and have a few empty ones to scatter around. These will fit on the back of the utility truck I have yet to build.

Well you can still go buy something from them, and knowing how busy Mason is you could have yours built before him...  8)

I bought the small forklifts around the same time. p&p was about £6 and the stuff arrived in a fortnight or so.

I hadn't appreciated it was mdf, so I was confused when an A4 envelope dropped through the door o_o. Both looking forward to and dreading putting them together.

Only slight annoyance is that he doesn't do paypal, but that's just the paranoid part of me that dislikes putting my credit card details into a site ;D

I do intend to order another vehicle or two from him
