Title: Lady Wintermore's Fangs
Post by: maxxon on June 12, 2014, 07:32:55 AM
As you may recall, I painted up my remaining Flintloque minis as part of my New Year's
resolutions.

All done as improperly as possible, ofcourse.

Well, last night I actually ran a game with the figures using the first scenario from the Lady Wintermore's Fangs box set.

Here you can find a totally unbiased report of the evening's happenings:

Before you ask, no, I didn't really use the Flintloque rules. I'm... too old for that sort of rules. Instead I used Song of Drums and Shakos, spiced up with some special abilities from the regular Song of Blades and Heroes.

This was my first game with the Song engine (also appearing in the latest few entries from Osprey). I quite like it actually. It has its limitations, but so does everything else. It's fast, really easy to learn but still presents interesting challenges.

Oh and scenario... it was totally one-sided but I was kinda expecting that.

Next time: Road from Moskova. Zombie cossacks and werewolf jägers. And all the croissansts are frozen, what is a poor elf to do?

Possibly my favorite set of Flintloque minis and a great report. Probably my issue with that set was the lack of firelocks the elves possess for the scenarios. Hand to hand with zombies is never pleasant in any edition of Flintloque. Thnaks for taking time to lovingly craft such a fantastic report.

Well, it kinda works the other way around in Song... undead are very resilient against shooting, but superior fighters (elite cuirassiers) with superior weapons wearing armor will chop them up in HTH very quickly. Once the elf player realized this, the nature of the game changed drastically.

Ironically Igor was the weakest undead figure but ended up causing most casualties to the elves due to sheer luck.

I'll need to tweak things a bit for the next scenario.

The second issue is up:

Players seem to like the Song system. There's some griping about it not being effective to attack on your own turn and that sometimes the you are "better off losing" because it's actually easier to disengage that way, but I think those are minor issues borne at least partly from not understanding all the nuances of the combat system.

Will general d'Aldront and captain l'Fromage escape from Lady Wintermore's clutches? Find out in this final installment of the Deadloque saga!

...oh crap, now I'll get sued by those candy game people...

It seems I accidentally disconnected my modem while vacuuming...

If you had trouble accessing the comics, please try again.

Great reports! Very inspirational.  I really love the flintloque range.  You have given me some great ideas.  Your web site is pretty cool as well.  I know I'll be spending more time there in the near future.  Thanks.
