Any interest in doing another 'Army Painter' challenge this year?
I'm going to, even if no one else does. I was pretty happy with the impetus to produce (and the outcome) last year.
Here's the old thread:
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=55393.0
I'd propose it stays the same- in that it isn't a competition, no records are kept, we paint a unit of roughly 10-30 figures each month, and post them on or around the first day for sixth months, August 2014 to January 2015. Each person maintains their own thread and labels it starting with '(Army Painters)'.
I'm going for Darkest Africa Belgians, Darkest Africa Azande, DA Pygmies, DA Ngoni, or my Hinterland hussarettes backlog. Any suggestions will be appreciated :)
Who's with me???
-
At the moment my health prevents me from cranking out anything with any degree of consistency other wise I would love to join in. Will happily be following along with the threads of others though.
-
Yep, I'm in. Vikings for SAGA. An August start will give me plenty of time to finish my last commission, and get focused on my own toys.
My inspiration, which I have shamelessly worshipped for years:
http://www.twfigurines.de/vikings/vikingmain.htm
And no, I didn't finish last time, and I'm ok with that! ;)
-
I am with You
I wanted to continue my Foreign Legion project anyway, this will be a good incentive, and I am about to gather the miniatures I will need for it.
do we start july?
could You make us an inofficial campaign badge? :D
-
I am in. Although I do not have an army I need to paint, but I have a horde of zombies and various other random bits and my painting has stalled these past few weeks. So this might give me the kick I need to get back paintin'
-
I should probably finish my 2013 Army Painter project first lol
-
oh, time travel? tell me the trick please, and I'll join lol
-
Perhaps make it a paint a warband/gang/survival team for those who are ill/work late/slow-like-me? :-)
-
I'll say yes and last for a month probably lol
cheers
James
-
Low pressure, folks :)
I think if a person wanted their 'army' to be a single 54mm gladiator per month, or a few survivors, that would be just fine. The fewer 'rules' the better!!!
I'm targeting August 1 for my first entry.
-
Carry on form last year as I still want to get my dogs of war sorted :)
cheers
James
-
I'm in,doing Rep. Romans this Year ;D
-
Who's with me???
Not me, but I can't wait to see your output 8)

In that case sure I'll join. Should be a push to get a few samurai done a month.

Im
'M more than ready to attempt and fail again.
I will paint Texas War of Indecency and Darkest Africa (various).
Weeeehoooo
edit: and 8th army in 15 mm
-
Maybe people could set their goal at the start and try to stick with it.
For example I will probably aim to paint 5-10 guys a month as that's a bit of a push but a realistic goal for the amount of time I actually feel well enough to paint and how slowly I paint.
Someone else might want to paint 10-30 Greek hopilites a month another going for a small skirmish game like infinity may sent themselves a goal of 1-2 models a month as a playable infinity force is only 6-12 ish models.
-
I'm in. I'm just about to start the Hittite contingent of my "Biblical" army.
-
We'll see.
I haven't painted anything in over a year now. :?
I'm pretty hyped about (hopefully) receiving my All is Quiet on the Martian Front KS stuff and I have received a butt load of Blue Moon 15mm Colonials, of which I actually have the first unit (24 minis) primed.
So if I can get my brush in gear, I will attempt to do a 15mm British VSF/Colonial army.
-
OK, so August first then?
personal rules everyone? set Your goal at the start of the month, show the prepped miniatures, paint, show the finished ones at the end, proceed?
-
Im in, once there has been a 'start date' has been set for the first batch :)
-
Yep, I'm in. Vikings for SAGA. An August start will give me plenty of time to finish my last commission, and get focused on my own toys.
Already a change in plans! ::)
My last commission just turned into my second-to-last, so I have a new project, 68 Arthurians for a fellow who is paying me actual $$, so no failure will be tolerated! The fellow is a very patient gentleman, but this will be a nice way to keep me on track, and produce real results in a timely manner.
August 1st I'll have pics up and start going.
-
so, is August 1. the day we start to paint, or the day we present the first result?
-
I'm shooting for my first post to be August 1.
-
I'm in - I should have a job lot of British WWII infantry arriving soon. This will be my incentive to keep at them, whilst other shiny toys will have to wait their turn.
-
I'm shooting for my first post to be August 1.
I'm pretty sure I can have my first regiment finished for August 1st.
The problem is the second... :)
-
I'm pretty sure I can have my first regiment finished for August 1st.
Can we hold you to that lol
I will have a do at this. It might be an incentive to finish off all the half finished stuff...
-
Is there going to be a fresh thread for this? (or have I missed it already? lol)
-
OK I'm in again. I picked up a bunch of Dark Ages figures at Enfilade I need to paint. I think it will make a good mixed British & Welsh allied army.
-
Is there going to be a fresh thread for this? (or have I missed it already? lol)
Everyone does their own thread. This will be the 'master thread' were we gripe about whatever gets in the way of our personal goals :)
Perhaps needless to say but I've not started working on the stuff for the August 1 deadline yet :)
-
Can I carry on my original one ??? :D
cheers
James
-
Can I carry on my original one ??? :D
Certainly!
As far as I'm concerned the only 'rule' is that a person title their thread with the correct intro so that interested parties can find them easily :)
-
Groovy :D
Now I've got to find it again lol
cheers
James
-
Would someone mind writing a short list of the exact rules of the challenge?
For example explaining where to post how to title your post the starting dates etc, just so we have an exact criteria to work towards and people who have never done soemthing like this knows exactly what they are doing.
Thanks
-
Well, although I'm only a participant I think the rules go something like this.
You should post in: Workbench
Title for your thread should be: Army Painter:whatever you want to call it
In your first post you should state your aim (eg. I am going to paint a WWII British Rifle Platoon. My goals are: July - 1st Section, August - HQ, September - 2nd Section, etc)
After that it's up to you how often you post, whether you want to show WIP shots, monthly updates, or just the whole thing finished. I use it as a bit of extra motivation to get stuff painted (last time I painted an entire army for FoW that had sat in a cupboard for years). Have fun with it.
-
Thanks mate that's really helpful.

Now I've got to find it again
If you used Army Painters in your title, just search for Army Painter and it will show you all of the threads.

Nice one former user

see the dynamic search link above
Nice one former user
merci ;)
the clue is that everyone sets his own rules. The only convention is that we call in every month and present a unit. some of us presented the bare figures they were going to paint first, but that is by no means necessary. The challenge goes against ourselves, everyone challenges himself to have one unit finished per month or so, to go on and don't stop and keep it rolling.
this is basically it.
oh, and since Matt called it first, he proposed we present the first one August the first, but noone stops You from starting later.
Irritated because You are used to being told what you can and can't do and this being discussed in double digits long threads? well, welcome to the green pastures of anarchy lol
-
anarchy
I'm glad you used that term, I almost did earlier lol
-
and there isn't even a badge for that! only the warm feeling of having conquered the own procrastination.
And of course the sight of the finished and finally painted units you can play with, at last
-
The main thing was I didnt want to post a thread up in the wrong place. THis sounds like a great way to drive progress. Will be looking forward to seeing what you all produce.
Will you guys be showing your first painted unit in august or the bare models in august btw?
-

I'll be showing the half painted ones from last time on the first lol
cheers
James
-
I am hoping to get my half painted ones done before that. But at my pace I may accidentally strip them off paint without realising it.
-
I'll have the unpainted lot and the big plan on Aug 1. That is if I finish my current project, of course! ::)
-
I'm in! 1st August right?
Where can i see a lost of the 'rules' please?
Darrell.
-
if You want rules pick up another challenge :D
seriously, there are no rules; scroll back a few pages

I think I need to join this as not painted anything for a while.
With the imminent arrival of The Glorantha Guide, this would be a good way to resurrect my Glorantha project started in the 2012 LPL. I also have an idea for a game for BLAM 2015 using this background.
Do not know if I will complete a whole unit before 1st August but will certainly be able to show what I already have, paint a few characters and lay out my plans.
First up will be Wolf Pirates led by Harrek the Beserk with their ship.
-
I wonder if the expectation to produce results might help with the motivation... Hmmm... I might be overestimating my current speed, but I'll think about what I could have as my project.
So there is no minimum force size right? It could even be a skirmish army?
-
of course, anything that suits You

I'm thinking of doing a force for Dux Britanniarum or just seeing if I can get 30 Pathans finished in one month..... and that's along with painting for my customers too! (they will not be published).
As they say, no rules but a bit of peer pressure won't hurt :).
Darrell.
-
And I do like your Pathans... I hope you pick that project :D

Ahhh I see. I shall get a list and the first models ready for the first of august haha
-
True... I don't nearly have everything here of what I am thinking of doing :)
-
I'm still painting my 2013 British Zulu army force though I moved my new posts to the colonial board. Seeing as I keep buying new units it might just stretch into a 2015 project. lol
-
True... I don't nearly have everything here of what I am thinking of doing :)
I am still pining for the Brigade Games order and will do my own soon.....
-
Yeah, I've given hope on that... sadly. If you would like ordering partners, let me know.
-
See Ill be painting and modelling up my chaos warband (not for gaming just for fluff and because I like the models I shall be using) and I will hopefully master the armour style painting before I start on the general figure, which will be the last miniature I paint for army :)
I think that this could bring some interesting armies to the forefront of discussion which I am looking forward too...
-
Liking the models is a damn good reason to paint something. Sure there are games to play with them if you don't like Warhammer.

I was considering mordheim but I dont have any gaming friends except one who is very closed minded and a saw loser and winner which means i never game against him. Im mainly a modeller and painter at heart though haha lol
-
You might get away with playing it for kings of war.

I shall have a look into the rules online, a quick youtube tutorial should surfice and if i like the sound of it i may have to purchase a rulebook of theirs.
The main problem is having folks to game with, may have to join a few local gaming clubs in the area :)
-
If you want to give it a go mate the rules and army lists are free on their website.

Ahhh I see, I shall look into it this evening when I return home :)

More or less finished the Canaanites (for the time being). Started painting the Hittites last night, 6 spearmen started, I'm quite happy with the progress so far, so I should have a Hittite post ready in a week or 2.
In the mean time...

So I'm going medieval.
First up will be some Perry villagers...
Edit, but I'll have to post my first batch mid August as I was busy finishing off my 30k project for 1st Aug :)

Well I am counting 15 threads so far this year.
-
I have only 8 with 2014 in the title

You're suppose to put 2014 in the title?
I want a rules ruling... ::)
-
no, You are not, but it si the only way to differentiate it from those that started last summer, so...
-
so...
It doesn't really matter ;D
cheers
James
-
exactly
-
Put 2015 and your miles ahead.
-
Looks like a good number of different armies. Dark Ages seems the most popular but the range of different stuff is great. I am itching get home and get painting.
-
Put 2015 and your miles ahead.
Hmm...
I'll have to think about that... :D
-
Hmm...
I'll have to think about that... :D
If I don't move house, I'll be in the same place - shirley!

What a good idea lol

James
-
Seeing as I am still working on my original Army project I wouldn't want to limit myself to a particular year. Much too confining. :D
-
no, You are not, but it si the only way to differentiate it from those that started last summer, so...
It would make it easier, but just look at the first post date on the thread. o_o
-
?? and how about those who are rebooting their thread?....
-
Well then I guess any (Army Painter) threads with posts after July 1 2014. :D
