Hi guys,
For this week's painting challenge on Oldhammer, I speed-painted the Reaper Bones IMEF Marines and turned a toy armoured car into their transport. You can see more images and an explanation over on my blog (http://gonzohistorygaming.blogspot.co.uk), but here are the highlight photos.

The figures are speed-painted, and the AFV is speed-painted and speed-bashed, so they're a bit rough and ready, but I'm not unhappy with them!

I really like the armoured car!I can never find toys like that to kitbash, I'm very envious.
-
I like what you've done :-*
-
Very nice.

this is great!!

I got it here (http://www.littlegreenmentoys.com/Tim-Mee-Tan-Armored-Car-02-0001.htm) (I got 3 of 'em!). They cost me £2.25 each, but I was able to get them shipped to me when I was in the US. Elsewhere I imagine the shipping would be a hassle.
-
Nice job and certainly good enuf to fight.
-
that car reminds me of the truck from space hunter adventures in the forbidden zone ! :D
Lovely work, i was always tempted by these marines but the images on the reaper site just don't sell them.

Great work. Some of the most enjoyable projects are the quick ones. I have some of those plastic armored cars. Will have to dig them out. How did you cover the hollow undercarriage?
-
I had the same little car about 15 years ago. What makes this even more impressive is that it's a single piece of plastic (completely hollow). Just a simple stamped mold of plastic with four wheels and a clip-on turret. You've really made that into something nice.

Well done!

I ... didn't. :D
But in the past when I've had to work with hollow plastic toys, I've attached something to the inside of the hull to create a nice broad surface to bond to and then just cut an appropriately-shaped card template and glued it on. Yeah, it doesn't look very realistic, but then ideally no one's going to see the underside of the thing in the first place. It wouldn't take much to make a suitable card undercarriage in several pieces (because the lines of the thing aren't exactly straight) and then greeble it until it looked nice; I just couldn't be bothered. The only place it was really visible was at the front, so I just chucked that dozer blade on there to lower the front enough so that it couldn't be seen.
It's either cheap and cheerful or cheap and nasty, but it's definitely cheap.
-
Nice. Now I won't feel bad about leaving mine hollow.
-
Cheap and well done! Always a good combination. :)
-
Do love the vehicle - toys can certainly be an ideal source for ones scifi armour.
-
Brilliant! I remember that toy from a few years back. I even had the link to some webstore in the US that sold them.

It's linked on my blog (which is, in turn, linked in the first post) if anyone is interested.

Those Marines are great looking, at some point I need to order them (Along with the Bones Pirates while I'm at it)
Glad you had fun with the Chico Challenge Week™ as well :)

It's not just me then :) god that was a ridiculous film.

Nice job! I converted the car too, but haven't gotten around to painting yet. Switched wheels and turret.

I really like that turret! Where is it from?
I would have liked to do something about the wheels myself -- they are a bit silly looking -- but it was a spur-of-the-moment idea and I didn't have any good replacements to hand.
-
The turret is from Old Crow. Have any other toy conversions planned?
-
The vehicle is an older design from TimMee Toys, first released in 1978. These are the same folks that made the cool M-48/M-60 hybrid plastic tank you see in all sorts of dime store toy soldier bags today (knock-offs from the original 1964 toy). The current incarnation of TimMee Toys (Processed PLastics) is not exactly the same company and I don't think they have the molds to this vehicle.
I dont think anyone is currently making the armored car, but its fairly easy to find them for cheap on EBay. I don't know how common it would be over in Europe though - TimMee was mostly distributed in the USA, but the hordes of Chinese knock-off toys that might include copies of that vehicle were probably sold in Europe.
-
I think I had a few of those growing up. Damned if I know where they are now. lol

Yeah, I have a big stack of stuff I keep meaning to get around to. I've done a few in the past, too; one of these days I'll post some photos. I'm terrible about photographing models.

Processed Plastics did has the molds and has produced it for some time.

Check the Timmee section and playlet section.
I'm pretty sure I bought it under the processed plastic brand when I was a kid. They also have a sweet C-130 Hercules. Wish I'd kept that one.
Here's a seller who has them in stock (the tan ones anyway) and at a price that might even be worth shipping worldwide.http://littlegreenmentoys.com/Tim-Mee-Tan-Armored-Car-02-0001.htm
