Title: 1st PA AAR : the secret of the 'Chevalier de Hauteville"
Post by: Tufoo on June 15, 2014, 04:42:46 PM
This is my first Pulp-Alley game with my daughter (lucky Dad !).

Background :
Once upon a time... A noble Norman knight, le Chevalier Roland de Hauteville, went back from the crusades with some strange treasure. He died some months later without having revealed his discovery but one said that it is nothing less than the "lapis philosophorum" (the philosopher's stone).

...Somewhere in Normandy during the year 1937. In his quest of esoteric artifacts, the "Thule-Gesellschaft" (Thule Society) is looking for the secret of the Norman knight. Hugh Jackman, an American adventurer secretely employed from the US-governement, will try to be faster than the Germans.

The leagues :

- die Thule Gesellschaft :

No... Unfortunately !

The wolf figure is an old D&D Miniatures (Wizards of the coast) repainted...

The scenario was based on "The Lost Keys" PA-script.
The major plot point is the pillar located in the ruined church (the pillar contains a parchment in a secret cavity) .
The plot points were : the farmer's wife (who knows the legend), the well (exit of a secret tunnel ?), the ruined tower (entry of a secret tunnel ?) and the calvary (with some old inscriptions...)

Jackman's friends arrived by car in the area of an old farm.
(http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b552/Laurent_Tuffier/WebJackmansfriends_zps8d94fe72.jpg) (http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/Laurent_Tuffier/media/WebJackmansfriends_zps8d94fe72.jpg.html)
Coming from the opposite side, the Thule-Gesellschaft deployed on the bank of the lake.
(http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b552/Laurent_Tuffier/WebThuleGesellschaft_zps8fc048d6.jpg) (http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/Laurent_Tuffier/media/WebThuleGesellschaft_zps8fc048d6.jpg.html)

Turn one :
Hugh and Té went to the farm in order to collect some informations. Mc Leod and Stephane ran to the well described in the "Hautteville's Memories" as the exit of a secret tunnel.
(http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b552/Laurent_Tuffier/Web3_zps8d29b7aa.jpg) (http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/Laurent_Tuffier/media/Web3_zps8d29b7aa.jpg.html)

Hr. Dr. Von Klug ordered Arn, Kieffer and Mimmel to reach the calvary as "schnell" as possible. He tooks Dietrich with him to inspect the ruined tower. Werwolf followed its master...
(http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b552/Laurent_Tuffier/Web2_zpsb7d3865e.jpg) (http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/Laurent_Tuffier/media/Web2_zpsb7d3865e.jpg.html)

Turn two : (looks like the "comic" part of the game !)
Arn jumped over the rocks like a gazelle, but his two companions tried to cross the difficult terrain at the same time, slept into the water and their heads collided the rock ( Fumble !!! )
(http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b552/Laurent_Tuffier/Web4_zps5f72bb87.jpg) (http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/Laurent_Tuffier/media/Web4_zps5f72bb87.jpg.html)
Bad omens for the Germans...
Suspecting some risks, Von Klug sent the soldier to inspect the ruins. A vicious viper was resting on the warm stones and didn't appreciate the arrival of intruders. (Ach ! diese Soldaten sind unprofessionnel und diletantisch !)
(http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b552/Laurent_Tuffier/Web6_zpsa9a19ea3.jpg) (http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/Laurent_Tuffier/media/Web6_zpsa9a19ea3.jpg.html)
Von Klug precautiously sneaked to the tower and found the entry of the tunnel, unfortunately blocked. Anyway, he was able to determine that the tunnel was running in direction of an old ruined church.

What about the fearless American adventurer ?
He was blocked by ...a group of agressive geese !!! (lol !)
Té met the farmer's wife and obtained some answers, when Mc Leod and Stephan failed to find any evidence ofa tunnel at the well.

Turn three soon !

... Turn three : "the bite of a wolf"

Reaching the church before the Germans is nowthe key of success for Hugh and his fellowship.
Té ran to block the path crossing the weat field.
The infamous German Doktor send Werwolf to attack him.
(http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b552/Laurent_Tuffier/Web9_zps57228d77.jpg) (http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/Laurent_Tuffier/media/Web9_zps57228d77.jpg.html)
Although severely bitten, the faithfull African warrior knocked down the beast.
(http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b552/Laurent_Tuffier/Web10_zps1f11c0ca.jpg) (http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/Laurent_Tuffier/media/Web10_zps1f11c0ca.jpg.html)
Both adversaries were successfull by solving the clues : Stéphane finally discovered the evidence of a tunnel running from the well to the church and the translation of the latin inscription on the calvary was no match for the clever Arn.
(http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b552/Laurent_Tuffier/Web8_zps0835282a.jpg) (http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/Laurent_Tuffier/media/Web8_zps0835282a.jpg.html)

Turn Four : "...lead isn't yet turned to gold, but it can fly"
Everybody tried to reach the church first now :
(http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b552/Laurent_Tuffier/Web11_zpsf586f2e8.jpg) (http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/Laurent_Tuffier/media/Web11_zpsf586f2e8.jpg.html)
The mercyless Arn fired on Té and hit him.
(http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b552/Laurent_Tuffier/Web12_zpsb12e7662.jpg) (http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/Laurent_Tuffier/media/Web12_zpsb12e7662.jpg.html)

Turn five :
The church floor is highly perillous because of the risk of collapse of the tunnel back-ground.
The Germans hesitated, loosing precious seconds.
The incredible Stéphane roamed toward the church, firing successfully to the Germans. Dietrich was down.
(http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b552/Laurent_Tuffier/Web13_zpsbc00eaa7.jpg) (http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/Laurent_Tuffier/media/Web13_zpsbc00eaa7.jpg.html)
In a desperate attempt, Té recovered and charged Arn. The fight turned to the advantage of the German.
(http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b552/Laurent_Tuffier/Web14_zps9254915e.jpg) (http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/Laurent_Tuffier/media/Web14_zps9254915e.jpg.html)

Last turn :
Stephane reached first the pilar. Her light weight was certainly an advantage on the perillous floor. She unlocked the trap without any trouble and took the precious old book.
(http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b552/Laurent_Tuffier/Web16_zpscfb9c2f7.jpg) (http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/Laurent_Tuffier/media/Web16_zpscfb9c2f7.jpg.html)
Von Lust tried to fire on the French girl but failed. Furthermore he was blocked by some brambles.
Too late for him.
The catastrophy for the German was perfect when Mc Leod and Hugh finally hit Arn and stole the latin translation from the German mercenary.
(http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b552/Laurent_Tuffier/Web15_zps16dd8109.jpg) (http://s1291.photobucket.com/user/Laurent_Tuffier/media/Web15_zps16dd8109.jpg.html)

It was a clear success for Hugh's friends with 3 minor rewards and one major.

What is the secret of the knight ? Will the adventurers be able to translate the old book ? Is the Dr Von Lust definitively beaten ?

To be followed...

We really enjoyed this first game ! The rules are really easy to use and the Role-playing background is really great.
