Title: [KICKSTARTER] Wolsung SSG
Post by: tnjrp on June 20, 2014, 02:30:58 PM
They had a successful (IIRC) IndieGoGo previously, but now Micro Art Studio is going to play in the big leagues, starting tomorrow:

BOW's got an exclusive preview on this: http://www.beastsofwar.com/wolsung-ssg/exclusive-wolsung-kickstarter/

Have to keep an eye on.

I like the Chinese chap a lot but he is not enough temptation to back a fundraiser.  Like all these things I could get one when he eventually gets released but I will have long forgotten about him by then.

The halflings are nice too but to my eye are more 1950's Weird Cold War than the Victoriana of the range, perhaps 1930's but still far too late.

No, a picture is certainly more likely to entice than a wall of text and it's becoming a more common occurrence here and I don't like it. A personal thing of course but I'm not alone in stating this.

Yes, the subject might be of interest but quite often my time is limited and picture speaks a thousand words.

There are plenty of 'news' forums out there, I'm hoping this doesn't become another one where the quality of the work in the various threads isn't over shadowed by hot linking etc.

cheers

James

I take you're point (even if you are taking my remarks a little TOO seriously).

But, at the end of the day - its not the end of the world now is it.

Everyone has to have a soapbox subject  ;)

It's running and funded, with obvious caveats of course.

Couldn't immediately figure out everything, such as how you actually pay for add-ons (and what exactly qualify as add-ons, for that matter) -- I suppose one needs to either ask of Fb or else pledge the nominal $1 to participate in the comments section. Miniature picker pledge looks a little steep, especially with p&p added, and I really can't justify any of the currently shown full starter or terrain sets so that would to be the only option for me to think about at the moment. But of course there's a decent amount of time to see how this develops.

Oh, I didn't know until now I needed Pulp Halflings with Weird-Wars tech, but, obviously, now I do. I really like these. I have absolutely no use for them whatsover, but even so...

Concerning the price of Micro Art's figures in the Wolsung Kickstarter:

The Miniatures Picker pledge level is $75 (US Dollars) plus $15 shipping outside of Poland for 10 points of miniatures (that equates to 10 normal-sized miniatures). Plus there is already an add-on for one additional point of miniatures for free. That comes out to eleven 1-point figures @ $8.18 each. Also, you can add on 5 points of miniatures for $40 (free shipping), or $8.00 per 1 point figure.

Buying directly from Micro Art it costs 9,23 Euros ($12.55) for the typical 1-point figure. That comes to, including shipping to the USA, a total of 107,53 Euros, or $146.23 for eleven figures, or $13.29 per figure.

I can get many--not all--of Micro Art's old figures here in the States at Noble Knight, ranging from $10.49 to $12.49 for what the Micro Art Kickstarter classifies as 1 Point figures. I picked 11 figures off nobleknight.com that I wouldn't mind having and that they currently have in stock, and the total came to $131.54 including shipping, or $11.96 per figure.

So the Miniature Picker pledge level is indeed a good deal, assuming, of course, that there are that many figures that you would like to have.

Anyone have a link comparing the scale of Wolsung to some other common lines out there? I'd like to see how they match up, but my usual Google-fu is failing today...

There's a size comparison in one of the early updates (with a GW and infinity mini)

I like some of the figs and the terrain but most of the female models are unusable in a VSF game. They look like they are walking around in their underwear.

Sadly the Infinity figure is one a huge scenic base making it pretty useless for comparison purposes.

Well, this has certainly got my interest. I am keen to get into Victorian/Steampunk and see this as a good way to get in.

If I am reading it right, the $75 pledge for 10 points of figures includes free stretch goals of another point and 4 little shanty buildings. With shipping and current exchange rates that's a shade over £50 for 11 points of figures plus four "outbuildings". That seems like a decent way to start a collection.

I might be stooopid, but does it state anywhere if the figures are metal or resin? It seems to say both but does not say which figures are which material.

The Wolsung Miniatures so far have been in Metal if that helps.

And remember, Micro Art allow double pledging on one account, so your £75 pledge count be doubles and you would get all the stretch goals again for the second pledge. Only (well, not really an) issue is you pay P&P on each pledge, though this is capped out at $60 maximum.

They just included 'add-ons' for additional points of models (1pt for $9, 3pt for $25), and have said smaller terrain pledges are likely to follow.

Worth looking at (it really is an excellent system)

It's a better deal now that a number of stretch goals have been released, too. Bonus points mean the price for the lot goes down. I've heard a rumor they might assign point values to terrain, which takes it from 'decent deal' to 'no brainer' for me...
