Title: Vignettes suitable for wedding gift
Post by: Limaike on 21 June 2014, 09:15:47 AM
My brother just got married and i'd like to paint them a romantic/couple themed vignette to celebrate the event but am drawing a bit of a blank on anything suitable.

Gamezone has a harpy sucking some dude's face off, which i quite like but may not send the right message to his new wife. Hasslefree minis also has that barb surrounded by half naked wenches, so again, not quite the right message.

I'm thinking of something along these lines:

If anyone knows of anything that might fit the bill please chime in!

There are a couple of nice 'paired' minis in the WarMachine line - Rutger Shaw and Tarynn Di La Rovissi, Dannon Blythe and Bull, and Lady Aiyanna and Master Holt spring to mind. They're a bit 'steampunk' but might work nicely for your idea. Failing those I'm sure somewhere in their vast catalog Reaper should have something suitable.

If you can find this old Foundry limited edition it's perfect  :)

Dark Sword has plenty of top quality Game of Thrones characters in fancy costumes and courtly poses, some of them even canonically married...but watch out. Their outlook isn't always that bright. lol

Cheers guys. There's some great stuff here- i wish i could use them but i don't really know my sister-in-law that well, or at least well enough to confidently represent her with a corpse bride. :(

@joroas: lol "Marriage- it's living death".

@Dolmot: Darksword's new Arianne Martell miniature is leading the running for new bride atm. Need to find a suitable gent to go alongside.

@ Dozing Dragon: i want my sister-in-law to talk to me again. ;)

@julesav: yeah, steampunk is not really my thing, although the idea of paired warriors is good- might be my only option. I did something similar for a school mate last year using 2 drow fighters.

@Steve63: i'm a big fan of Kev's ladies, but i'm not sure what message this mini is sending to my sister-in-law... ;)

I'm surprised there's not a series of romantic themed minis out there.. Wives might tolerate the hobby better if we could paint em something nice every now and then.

Look at Thunderbolt Mountain's old Arthurian line.  One of the ladies (mounted and foot are available) and an appropriate knight might work well.

Does it have to be a bridal looking couple?  Why not look at the Townsfolk sets from Reaper -- the woman with the broom, a couple of kids and chickens...  You'd need to find a non-armed male to put with, but you could make a little domestic vignette..

Speaking of vignettes, there are the nice ones from Eureka (maybe not the harem scene, but the reverend being served tea might work).  Or look at Mithril's (pricy, but nice) vignette of Eowyn and Faramir in the Houses of healing.  You might get lucky and find one of the Arwen and Aragorn vignettes, or the "In the House of Tom Bombadil" one.

How about a slightly different take on the theme...?

Maybe going for something like the Foundry Christmas Panto characters:

The Maid Marian would make a good alternate bride.
Even better if you remove her legs and use her as if she is kneeling...

I seem to recall an ACW vignette of an officer and wife being photographed, I thought it was Dixon set, but its not on their catalogue.

Another option is to pick one of the Foundry Victorian sets for a suitable man and wife in period clothing.

Eureka have a number of dancing couples in their 19th C civilian range. Dressed for a ball or wedding.

Not entirely on-topic, but my ex-girlfriend and I planned to have Black Widow and Hawkeye on our cake, so you can always look further afield if you're prepared to diy a Vignette.

I looked into this for the same reasons. My best find was foundry's Napoleonic 'Officers escorting Ladies' but it was out of production. Sorry I can't find a pic at the mo.

Speaking of tangents, my ex-wife and I had Chucky and Bride of Chucky on our wedding cake.
The prophecy that that foretold.......be warned!

@Neotacha: Thank you. There are some really good ideas there. It doesn't have to be bridal, just romantic, or a diorama of a couple doing something together. I knew about the Eowyn and Faramir one but i thought it looked rather sad. Mithril does an "Aragorn's Leavetaking" which is also quite nice but like the other Mithril vignettes it's very rare/pricey. I quite like Thunderbolt's Gwenyvere the Queen for the bride.

@Mason: Panto wedding? Why the heck not? Maid Marion looks like she's saying "Oh thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you for choosing meeeeee!" Psycho. ;)

How about Godzilla in lipstick and a bridal veil stomping through a Hornby village? (seriously, i would love to do that)

@joroas, carlos marighela: Victorian era minis make a good substitute for traditional/boring groom and bride minis that appear on wedding cakes. This thread is turning into a good reference for wedding ideas.

@Hat Guy: Superheroes is a cool idea! I'm happy to diy. It'll probably end up being fantasy because that's what i know/love.

Right now I'm thinking i could have them both riding a dragon or pair of dragons or on a flying carpet together.

Redoubt have some attractive couples in their 3 musketeers line - perhaps the King & queen might be suitable?

Zombiesmith made a wedding couple, where the zombie attack is on wedding day.  She has a shotgun, he an axe.

@bandit86: Judging by their expressions these minis might be more suitable for a 20th wedding anniversary gift  ;)

@fastolfrus: They are quite nice. My brother has put on a few pounds lately.

@Timbor: I have a feeling you're not taking this seriously.  :D  Actually i might buy this and present it to them before they get the real gift, just for a larf.

@leadfool: They are very nice. Surrounded by a heaving mob of undeath they could do the job nicely.

Whatever gave you that impression?  lol

Sounds like a great project, regardless, and I am sure your brother and his wife will be suitably impressed.
