Hi Mates,
After some investigation here and some homework on my own I got some samples from Pendraken. Great folks, I asked for one or two models of the German and US Paras and they sent about 10 of each. I've been very busy with the end of the semester and my PhD but I sat down this weekend to play around with what I got.
Here is a group shot:

The German Paras:

I based these on 25mm Rendera bases and I was thinking of the single squadies to be on either 1 or 2 eurocent coins.
I decided to make my homegame in 10mm as I'll really only have a 60x60 board to play in.
I also contacted Minifigs and Dave will send out some samples as well. I'd like to see how the two match up and maybe use some from both.
In all I'll start with a US Ranger and US Para force with about 5 pieces of armor for support and a German SS Panzergrendier force and the same amount of vehicles. This will let me play a pretty complete game and it wont cost more than a 1000pts of Bolt Action for one force. I think this setup will be about 40-50 GPB for a very full 3 squad platoon with a pretty good selection of choices from the support table. The other good thing in this scale is say a Panzer III may not be too noticeable if one version is proxied for another.
Any thoughts?
O, I didnt discount 28mm at all. I bought a good force to play either Bolt Action or CoC, in German Fallschirmjagers from Artizan... But someone else can build those tables!
-
Nice work.
The Pendraken infantry are very nice. You can get an infantry platoon for about £6. I'm not such a fan of Minfigs infantry - other than their 8th army.
I've used 10mm for CoC, but went with 2 figures to a 30x15mm base to make movement a bit less fiddly. Still went with Commanders on single bases, 14mm washers.
-
The cost to game ratio at 10mm is fantastic. MUCH better than 15mm and every bit as much availability. When I cost out that I could make a 60x60 table (which I had already) and terrain (mostly made from scrap at this scale for non buildings) the armies would cost me about 100 gpb for essentially 6 armies that share 3 sets of armor.
Having bought a small 28mm force makes me feel like I cheated....
-
Just goofing around with some plastic rod and greenstuff.... I made up some jump off points and based them on 20mm bases. I couldnt find 10mm German drop canisters, so I roughed up some of my own and press-cast them.
What do you think?

Thanks! The two containers took about 10 minutes to put together, pretty easy and the other stuff are actually molds and stuff that I kit-bash.... 'mold-bash' :D

Nice work, they look good.

The postman dropped off a parcel yesterday and what did I fond?

:D
I really love 10mm! Nice sculpts and I get to play with a variety of armor that I couldnt afford to do in 28mm. Plus, I suspect it will paint up MUCH faster!
Cheers!

Tres cool. What make?
-
Fantastic! Love the infantry you'd finished so far. I am very fond of smaller scale stuff!

Cheers Mates! The armor is all Minifig so far and the infantry will be a mix of Pithead and Pendraken. Very excited! I also got a few buildings delivered yesterday. It will be very easy at this scale to make bocage and woods and stuff as well. :D

Yes, 10 mm is much more affordable!
:D :D :D

Hi All,
I got some Vallejo German Yellow Surface Primer on those tanks and such. I also wanted to practice using my new airbrush to make camo. It's not exactly what I wanted, and I expect to do something a little different for the rest of them, but I'm pretty happy with the result. Of course, your feedback is most welcome!

Blitzkrieg commander II
Great game, and easy to use for solo gaming too. With the command rolls you never know what will happen!

Nice Puma! If you can do finer lines on the camo, it would be a bit more in scale, but it's totally fine as is.

Looks great!

Awesome. I love me some MkIIs. Nicely done.
-
Very good work!

I had some problems with the paint sticking, so I had to strip this one and start over...bummed. I'm not sure how much I like the Vallejo Surface Primer....
But I've learned a bit technique wise in this scale, so the Stug I'm working on now should be better. Oh well!

Ok, some of my German Armor!

Looks great! I just ordered me some flakpanzers from pendraken, looking forward to getting started!

Dear Boy
I admire your work in this small scale.
I tried 10mm many years back but was always dissatisfied with the end results as a game.
I have found I enjoy the larger scales as it has more presence on the table.
Bigger is better for me.
Keep it up
Cecil

Loving this project!
