Hey all,
This may sound silly but i could need some Help. I have a Mortheim Dog laying in Front of me which I want to Paint up for my Dwarves (Yeah even a stunty can love his Puppy),
But I am lost how to paint him, I am looking for some Walkthroughs or How tos, would love something like a Rotweiller or Mastiff. i now some People can Paint something like that from their Mind or a simple Picture but I could really do with a How To and colour help. Animals have allways been troubling for me.
Haven`t felt that lost in a long Time.
Any Pointers would be appreciated.

I painted this one starting with all over black, picking out the main muscles and ribs with successive very dark greys (with a bit of blue mixed in) until I was happy with the contrast. Then the muzzle and paws are a very dark brown brought through with lighter shades until golden brown. Picked out the eyes and teeth (ivory not white which is too stark) and that's pretty much it

How to paint a dog?
First get a few people to hold it still or put some sleeping pills in its food ;)
Seriously though i also gave my dwarf (squat) leader a dog and painted it like this.

A thing to remember is that most dogs actually have a lighter belly than back. This is especially true with the Rottweilers, which have a Brown Color on their chest and the interior side of the legs. I remember painting wolves once and contrary to the usual painting technique the Highlights on the head and back are still darker than the dark areas of their bellies.
I suggest using a bright color as the basis and than use dark colors as washes on the back.

Thank you very much Guys,
I did actually start on that Dog but didn`t go much further than first Basecoats a bit of blending and Drybrushing, not sure if I am happy and in no way way he is going to come out as nice as yours but at the same Time I do not have the Patience to put too much effort into him, I am more of a Cat Person myself lol.

Meeow... I can completely understand that. Anyway, I think the puppy looks nice. You might want to highlicht the brown a little more but basically that's the way it should look IMHO.

I'm working on that exact model myself right now...after setting him aside for the last few months.
Here is a blog post I did back then showing the base colors I'm using....I went for a slightly oranger (is that a word!?) than you opted for...

Yours is looking great to my eye though! Keep it up.

Thank you very much Guys :).
Thanks for the Link Mate! Man , I never realized that half of the Leg of mine was missing, I thought that something was wrong and maybe the previous owner filled too much off.....but thats half the Leg that broke off :o....
Well , being a Frontilne Dog in the Warhammer world can`t be easy.....
Can`t wait to see yours Blue!

Blue, yours is simply what they call a black and mahogany. It is a Rottweiler variation of the black and tan. Looks the business too. Theatralic, yours looks good as well...maybe as suggested a little more highlight around the face and muzzle. Btw, with a lot of black dogs, their bellies are sometimes more pink with almost a shadow over it. :)
