Title: Bersaglieri Platoon in 28mm
Post by: James Morris on 28 June 2014, 10:26:20 PM
I've just finished a platoon of 28mm Bersaglieri mostly from Warlord, Perry and Askari Minis.  They're destined for East and North Africa games.

This is the first MG team with two Breda LMGs and a Sergente in command.  All Perry Miniatures.

Close-up of some of the team.  Perry Minis don't currently do Bersaglieri, so I chopped some plumes off spare heads from Warlord and glued them on with a spot of superglue.

First rifle team - section of 10 men commanded by a Caporale.  All of these are Warlord Games Bolt Action minis.

Close up of the NCO and one of his chaps lobbing a 'red devil' grenade.  I got over-enthusiastic and converted all the rifles into the shorter carbines that Bersaglieri seem to have been armed with by chopping off the barrels and remodelling with a bit of green stuff.

This is the second MG section - all Bolt Action models this time.

There are some really nice running models in this set.  I also liked the fantastic facial hair on some of the heads!

This is the second rifle section, using Askari Minis from the US. I've had these for a few years and decided to expand them to a full platoon after Warlord released their Italians last year.  Slightly different sculpting style to the Warlord/Perry models and a bit chunkier, but I think they're OK.  These guys do come equipped with the carbines, so no conversion required.

Part two: here are some of the other models.

Here's the Tenente, with one of his NCOs reporting in.

20mm Solothurn AT rifle - Bolt Action minis.

'Elephantino' 47mm anti-tank gun, again from Warlord.  Overhead shot showing the wheels removed, ready for firing.

The chap with the binoculars is my favourite figure from this platoon, and will be seeing duty as a forward observer as well as an AT crew member.  Pictured here with a Warlord sniper.

Brixia 45mm mortar - not very effective in real life, but a very nice model (Warlord again.)  Some neat detail on the ammunition box.

Lovely stuff James!  :-*

Hope to see some of these in action at a wargames show somewhere (probably not) near me!

Thank you!  Don't feel I 'own' anything but am enjoying painting these guys; trying to get a cinematic look to the whole thing.  Officer standing on a rock is a throwback to my Dark Ages heroes, probably not very sensible for a WW2 officer but hey... :)
